I think the concept of synchronicity is an attempt to expand the quantity of elements that induce the effect or event. For example, the woman in Sydney decided to touch the monument of the admiral Nelson and when she touches the marble of the plinth took place an earthquake. The woman said she believes the coincidence of the earthquake and her forbidden action was not by chance. It's a good example how principle of causality is added by the idea of synchronicity.
