    If Novak capitalized on Federers age later in his career, then it must also be clarified that Roger capitalized on Novaks age early in his career, since Roger had a 4-0 lead agains him from 2006-07, while Novak wasn't even 20 and Roger was at his absolute peak.
    After that early start however their next years were all 50-50, with each one getting wins and losses, coming to an end after 2011, where it was all Novak really.
    It's also hard to say whether Roger or Novak is the greatest on grass, since Novak has 1 less Wimbledon while having a 4-1 record against Roger on the exact surface
    And comparing Rogers 93% win rate for 4 years to Novaks in 2015 is one thing, but failing to mention that Novak did it in an era where Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka and of course Federer himself were all there while Rogers best competition was.....who exactly? That's another thing entirely

    • @MrSRA13
      @MrSRA13 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      In terms of the h2h they met far more when Federer was in his mid to late 30s than they did when Novak was young. It's very even and Novak was exceptionally gifted and won his first gs early.
      And Federer beat Novak in 2011 to end win streak and in 2012 at Wimbledon. Both years when Novak was in his prime and Federer was at the end of his.
      The grass is no debate. Novak leads 3-1 not 4-1 but as I said when they both met closer to Rogers prime it was a normal day at the office for Federer on grass. The man was untouchable for 5 years and almost beat a much younger Novak aged 38. His losses were close except 1 but let's not pretend this was the same Federer from 2003-2009. He was in his mid to late 30s while still being exceptional at that age. Novak has just found out himself how difficult it is to do that and got demolished by a 21 year old. Does this make Alcaraz greater on grass than Novak...ofcourse not.
      And people have short memories. Federer beat Sampras, ousted Agassi, had Safin, Nadal already winning majors. Roddick who is massively underrated (winning h2h with Novak, not that it means much) His competition was far harder than what Novak has faced the past 5 years where there has been a vacuum of major talent. Alcaraz and Sinner are the only ones to have stepped up really.
      All this is not to diminish Novak, he's a freak and a machine and is rightly one of the 3 GOATS and the most successful player of all time. But Federer gets far too much disrespect and should be applauded for playing as long as he did which should not have tainted his career as it seems to have done in the eyes of so many.

    • @Dimchek970
      @Dimchek970 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MrSRA13 Federer changed many things in tennis in general, like the average age of retirement which was in most cases in the early 30s before him. The man was the absolute greatest for a time after all.
      One thing that can't be said though is that he faced any "real" competition until Djokovic and Nadal matured to challenge him, which took a few years since theres an age difference unlike with Djokovic-Murray-Nadal which are all born within a year. Federer was a lone great surrounded by good/old players. I mean both Djokovic and Nadal beat Federer in a GS and won the title afterwards by the time they were both 20-21, something that most of his previous rivals couldn't do in their whole careers, so I don't put his competition beforehand in the same category as what would start coming after 2007.
      Same way i wouldn't compare Djokovic playing against Berretinni to Djokovic surviving and somehow overcoming Federer in Wimbledon/Nadal in Rg, however it can't be denied that Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev, and other newer players are for the most part just better than people considered the best players in Federers era, which would be Safin, Roddick and Hewitt, since Agassi was very old (for that time) and Samprass played Federer only once. If not by number of titles or elo rating etc. then at least by the fact that they just came after the big 3 raised the bar all around.

    The commentator said that "Djokovic will never be the Icon that Federer was or still is" 😂
    This Federer GOAT argument is the weakest ever. Of course because the GOAT status has nothing to do with a popularity contest or pageant. Tennis and sports are about winning matches and achieving results, and have nothing to do with looking good whilst loosing to Djokovic.
    But also, contrary to the quoted statement Djokovic is now a lot more popular than Federer in both China and India (which accounts for just half of the world).
    Therefore even if this desperado approach was used to determine the GOAT, Djokovic would still win the vote, like he won the 24th slam and the gold medal, even after this video was made.
    For the record, I am not a Djokovic Federer or Nadal fan but let's just be honest here. The GOAT of tennis is no longer a debatable subject due to Djokovic having almost all the records.

    Being the GOAT is not only a matter numbers. Novak is a fucking legend and the most successful tennis player ever but to be greatest you have to leave another type of mark. Federer hitting impossible shots every game like no other player was able to do and watching him move so naturally on a tennis court was a joy to watch and it was unmatched. And it happens in other sports also. For some people Senna is the GOAT of F1 and for others is Schumacher even if Hamilton is the most successful one. Michael Jordan is the GOAT of basketball even though Bill Russell won more NBA championships. GOATs transcend their own sport on a level no one else was able to do and that's the case with Federer in tennis.

      Being the GOAT in a single player sport is about two things- holding the major titles, and being no.1 ranked in the world. Tennis is lucrative in that the 4 GS have been the jewels of the sport since the 1950s and has been the main target for all tennis players of the modern era. NBA and F1 are team sports where the driver/player can make a difference but ultimately it is a team effort. You cannot make a GOAT argument based on feelings- Federer has not done anything to transcend tennis- he was heavily backed by the Nike/western european PR train since the early 2000s thinking that he will go clear in GS history. Unfortunately, for him, he came up against Nadal and Djokovic in the same era. The Goat in a single player sport is ONLY about the numbers...

    The only one who faced the other 2 in their peak is Rafa. And beat them in many occasions. He beat Federer to humiliation many times; he was the only one to menace him in his best (remember the 40-3 Federer season with 3 losses to RN); he beat the best grass player of all time in Wimbledon; he debunked the greatest dominance in tennis history till that moment; and he almost prevented the most talented player (RF) of all time to win all four slams. He beat Novak many times on hard and lost to him at RG only after the injuries, which took him off the court for many years of his career and put him in a condition of playing for a long time trying to return to a competitive form. The first to reach 21 slams, even far from the peak. Great advantage in h2h against RF and had a large advantage against Nole before the injuries. Still close to equal in h2h GS finals. Both Federer and Djokovic benefited from playing with less competition before 2007 and 2017, respectively. Rafa played against both of them from the beginning, with no gaps. He’s won the most, with less shots. Djoko benefited from 2 slams on hard and still couldn’t capitalize that much in NY to expand his lead. Many more Masters on hard. Rafa dominated in all kinds of clay courts. So statistically (cold data) Djoko is the undeniable GOAT, but if the analisis is a little bit deeper, it is arguable who was the best (not necessarily the greatest) or the greatest/most influential player. All of them have unique traits and strenghts which gave them the edge at some point.

    Absolutely NO DEBATE here. People that's why we are leading sport statistic. Numbers don't have feelings.
    Novak is not my favorite player (Sampras is) but Novak numbers are incredible and unrealistic.
    Federer is close friend with main mass media editors.
    When Sampras has retired he left tennis and made space for the new leader Roger. He hardly went to any master tournament let alone GS. And what is Roger doing? He is retired but in a way not so. He is on every GS , he makes Netflix, Never publicly congratulate to Novak for his 23 GS or more fresh for his Olympic achievment ... For me he is a sore loser who can't accept the fact that his records are all broke by Novak . So tell me where i m not telling the true here???

    I know this “debate” isn’t exclusive to tennis, but I’m tired of it. Why can’t we just appreciate all three guys? Statistically, Novak is the greatest. No questions asked. But are numbers the only thing that defines being the greatest? In the sport of boxing, for example, Ali is seen as the greatest, even though there are other fighters, like Mayweather, who have a better record inside the ring. How do we characterize the emotion that a player elicits from you? How do we characterize the impact a player has had on the game? How do we characterize the impact a player has had on sport culture? If the GOAT is only defined by what happens between the lines, then I concede it’s Novak. But if there are other factors that are used, then I can make an argument for both Roger and Rafa. However, the vitriol that I see in the forums and on social media platforms from fans of all three needs to stop. All three of these guys should be celebrated, because we won’t have the last two (Novak/Rafa) for much longer.

    The only reason that novak and nadal's head to head is close, is because novak would always get fer enough in the clay tournaments to face Nadal, and well nadal would beat him there ofc. But nadal was not as good on hard court or grass, so he did not get far enough in the hard court tohrnaments to face novak. If he did, novak would lead the head to head much more confidently.
