    I am new to foam board cutting. I’ve found the FoamWerks cutters and rail but wasn’t too reassured using it. Watching your video’s help a lot and I have a clear understanding off how to measure and cut. Thank you very much. And since I had tons off the double sided tape, it was a brilliant welcoming bonus to learn I can use it to adhere the foam boards.

    Many years ago, I was an Architect (no computer help at all).
    I wished I had Foam Board when I designed houses back then...
    Seeing it come to life really helps.
    Great video.

      Thanks Judi, Most of the architects I've spoken to comment on the importance of basic skills like drawing and model building to help develop concepts. Foamboards are an easy material to work with and make a good white model quite quickly. Thanks for your feedback. Kind regards, David Schummy

    Hi Archie, the cutter at 6:14 was the straight bevel cutter. You can flip a block to make it either 90 or 45 degrees. There are a few tapes I use including the Foamwerks white tape, Neschen Filmoplast P90 and the ASAP white hinging tape also works well. I've just been making some model jet fighter planes and I found that a hot glue gun is really good to use also. I would recommend giving the hot glue a go also as it set up fast and solid, Best regards, David Schummy

    Hi Mica, If I was making a monolithic dome in foamboards I would try printing 5mm cross sections of the dome or plotting the cross sections onto the sheets and then cutting each out and bonding together. The other way which I've tried but only with arches is to heat un-coated foamboard with the paper removed using a heatgun with the board laid over a template. If you were actually to build from concrete you could create the dome using soil and then apply concrete+rebar excavate dirt afterwards

    3D physical models are like riding on horse back, at a time it was an extraordinary and vital transport, but today you must do it only for the sheer pleasure
    .
    I do architectural 3D computer models for a living and a lot of 3D physical models for sheer fun, but I would shot myself in the head if I had to show this kind of model to my clients who don't know what they want, they want realistic details, illumination and thousands of changes

Not to bad, but If I get the extra money I will definately be using your tools! Wow! What a difference that would make. How do you suggest cutting for round rooms? Not exactly a bevel but something like that?

    One more thing I wanted to find out. Well a few more things. Foam board is it only available in Australia ? Because I live in Trinidad . If I can't obtain it what would be a good alternative? Also if I wanted to add color could I use colored markers? Oh and I saw that you used laminate film for the windows but What else could I use as the glass shape I am trying to emulate is angled?

  • @Foamboards

    Hot glue is good. All the aero-modellers use hot glue for speed and strength. It won't ruin the product. I recommend getting a decent glue gun that can provide a steady flow of adhesive quickly as some of the poor ones only dispense minimal adhesive which causes problems with the glue setting before positioning your pieces. Hot glue does force you to work fast but is that a bad thing? It all depends on the project and what you are making. I use combinations of wet glue PVA, EVA,double-sided,Hot

    For a a house model, how thick a foam board would suggest? 3mm or 5mm? Also, for sticking walls etc together, does the tape has to be of the exact same width as the wall? If so where can I get 3mm tape? :-( sorry for the carpet bombing of questions, but Im literarily just getting into this whole thing! Kind Regards! Love your work

    Foam core board models are good for constructing and studying the basic shape of the structure. But, if you want to see the actual building materials including siding, roofing and details, I recommend building with the 3-D Home Kit, which can be found online. You can also combine foam core board and material sheets from the kit.

    If you are referring to the board the design is made from it is a fine polystyrene cored and paper faced board called foam board, foamcore or a brand name fomecor. I sell it in Australia through our foamboards website. It is used by graphics and signage industry along with a whole range of industries who need a light-weight flat board that is pure and easy to cut and shape.

      Hi Michael, If you have a scaled printed plan of the layout you can just adhere it to foam board and start cutting out the layout. For any of the other components you really need to know the size and scale you are working to and then measure draw and cut out the components. Work from the base up. Break each section down into simple pieces and then assemble. Thanks for your question

    Hi Sam, I've listed a few of the better books for architectural model making on the foamboards blog. The link is on the main foamboards channel page. Pricing your time to provide an adequate return is the key to profiting from model building. You should contact architects, and construction companies and try to establish a relationship. I would suggest copying a new construction and make yourself a video intro that you could send to the business. Show them your passion. Followup and don't give up

    hello,
    one question:
    If you make a bevel cut, should the wall 4mm longer? Because the beve, will be 4mm deep and then 4mm lenght will be missing right?
    For example:
    The wall has to be 10cm long. Then i have to cut the wall 10,4cm long, because the bevel cut deepnes is 4mm right?
    Or how do i have to messure this?

    • @davidschummy106
      @davidschummy106 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gabriel, Normally the external size is what you will work from so the dimensions will be the same. If working from an external measurement then for each mitered joint the distance will be equivalent to adding the thickness of the board for each bevel. It will depend on which way you prefer to work either external size exact or internals plus the allowance for the 45 degree cut deducted or added accordingly.

    • @gaboaaa23
      @gaboaaa23 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidschummy106 hi,
      i see. Thanks. This will be my first model ill make. You think on a model that is only about 35cm long the wall thikness of 2mm is good or should it be 1,5mm? I dont want the internal walls to look to thick.
