We were blessed to move into our homestead with the same model already here and ive been running it for just about 7 years as well. My theory is as many years as I can get out of it is all bonus. It was installed in 2008 so all the money I saved the last so many years will go towards a new one when the time comes!

@@Homesteadhow Yes indeed! I do echo your sentiment though the plumbing is what really bites for cost! Simply just replacing the unit is literally half the total!

@@HomesteadJay yes! It's kindof what I learned about an indoor wood stove..you can basically take the cost of an indoor wood stove and double that to pay for chimney parts, double wall stainless etc... worse with the outdoor..that insulated per is really expensive

Another great episode, I'm glad you guys do the theater rentals. At at local theater in Massachusetts, we had a private party and showed one of my short films before a feature and it was alot of fun with great laughs.

Great video . . . gathering wood keeps you fit . . . I started using our insert this year . . . heating oil is close to two buck a liter here so I keep the thermostat at 65 . . . don't want to give Trudeau any extra revenue. Happy to see your movie theater is working out. Cheers.

We buy slab cut offs for around 20-30$ per bundle. 90% of the bundles are 4x4x10-14. Cut them down to 24" and you can get a full cord. 100$ will usually give us 4 full cords. Find you a sawmill and most of them sell the off cuts for cheap.

I've had mine for 21 years and love it. The dealer I bought it from told me NOT to scrape off the creosote in the fire box as it acts like a protective coating against moisture during the off-season. Also told me to coat the inside walls with used motor oil.

Excellent video! I also run a wood boiler that was installed by the previous owners of our property, and it works out great for heating our water as well. It's nice that we use more propane in the summer (for our water heater,) than we do in the winter. The theater looks fantastic too! We're just up in Almond, so we'll have to make the drive down to Montello to see a movie some time.

So, our outdoor wood furnace has been heating our house since 2001, the total cost was around $7000 installed, we have 33 acres of old growth forest soft and hardwoods that I’ve used for firewood. Here’s the kicker, it doesn’t come free to make that firewood, here to buy a cord of firewood is about $250 cdn, for me to do it myself it’s about $80-$100 per cord with equipment, fuel, chainsaw, gas, oil, chains, files, splitter, stacking time, and that’s not putting a wage on it for my time, if I were to pump gas at minimum wage say $15 cdn the cost goes much higher per cord probably over $250, so, if you were to go into great detail of all the hidden cost to make firewood you will never pay off that furnace, but it’s a great way to keep in shape and have something to do during the cold winter months.

There is no way a chainsaw, logspitter, and a running a old pickup truck to gather wood is costing $80-100 per cord. The initial cost is high but the running cost after you buy them is not much. My grandpa bought a wood splitter 40 years ago and i just only replaced the original engine on it 2 years ago with a more efficient ohv engine and it only needs like a quart of oil a year and a cheap air filter and plugs.

First time viewer, and fellow wisconsinite (Seymour) Planning to build a workshop/shed and looking at heating options. We invested in geothermal for our home when we built in 2018. A wood boiler seems like a better option in case we have power failure. My big plan would be to heat the shop with radiant floors and supplement the geo on long, cold stretches. Thanks for sharing your 7 year review. Your movie theater is cool. New subscriber. Cheers from the 920.

Some mad lad was burning old tires in his outdoor boiler, chuck a few tires in there and show us how it goes.

$17,000 for the fire furnace, that will pay for itself with in 10 years.

It's a bit more nuanced than that and it paid off in 7 years. 17k was for a big install covering 2 homes and all our water. Some people want a quick 1 sentence answer instead of watching the video to understand the nuance and fact that each scenario could be drastically diferent

If that's your way to light a wood stove there's no credibility in any thing you say.

I'm not trying to be THAT guy but I'm doing research on wood boilers and actual furnaces. They are in fact completely different heaters. Just saying I'm getting frustrated with all the mislabeled stuff.
