  • With Pope Francis coming to Singapore this September, some of us might be wondering “What’s the big deal? How does the pope affect me?”
In this inaugural episode of To Be Honest, we talk about the origin and role of the pope, why we should care about the papacy, the struggles of following the Church's teachings and if we really need a Church that isn’t perfect.
Note: At the time of recording, Deacon Clarence was still a deacon. He will be ordained a priest on 9 August 2024.

Thanks deacon Clarence for clarifying..that one should discern what is infallibility even from what the honorable Pope say as even the Pope as a person is not without sin , and may make mistakes .
I like your emphasis that the discern of truth and error should be referring to already established church teaching . Since the Canon the Bible is already written and closed by 1st century ..
Then Any other doctrine should be discern from the Bible. And if there is anything extra Biblical we should consider as not infallible, even it’s from the Pope.
This makes our faith so much more clear and simple and less susceptible to the weakness and error of interpretation by man , even our human leaders.
We can also be confident by the 3rd century Nicene creed , that summarizes the apostolic biblical doctrine should be the foundation of examining all other doctrines.
With the Bible as foundation we can then examine all teaching and doctrines , even the pope ex cathedra doctrines from the Pope or councils.
Very good point that you make that Pope Francis statements are not infallible if we doubt the agreement with the Bible .
Just discern from the Bible make it so clear and simple for my faith ..
Certainly I agree with you we should have the attitude of the noble Bereans in Acts 17 who examine theOT Scriptures when Paul presented them the gospel .
    God bless .

Heresies are not always associated with something immorally bad. (Eg a heretic Christian can outwardly reject the doctrine & theology relating to any one of the sacraments, but he can still strive to live a good and honest life according to his own conscience)
As long as it deviates from the official teaching of the Church, it is a heresy.

Because Matthew 16:19 the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Meaning the Church will ALWAYS be on earth. thats 1. number 2, Matthias was appointed to TAKE OVER from Judas, it shows that it is an OFFICE.

Very useful. If I understand correctly, the pope does not change that Jesus Christ is our Lord and high priest. Worship the Lord our God in Spirit and Truth. It would help if the questions are posed to help strengthen and increase understanding of our faith. It's a bit confusing when questions of personal curiosity is posed.
