    Hi K9WLW... I'm very new to DMR. I had my first DMR QSOs just yesterday!
    I was swapping radio/hotspot information with W2LOL. I said I was using the Anytone 878 & a RPi/MMDVM hotspot.
    Knowing that, he put me onto your TH-cam channel, citing the useful tips you have for the AT878, so here I am (and subscribed).
    Very good advice... Especially for a beginner like me.
    I look forward to learning more.
    Thanks & 73

      Thank you Chris! I appreciate you watching and your comments! It's a fun radio that makes DMR easy! It works on repeaters well too! I have recently run o to 2 local repeaters by doing a band scan with another radio in analogue mode. I heard the DMR "helicopter" noise on a couple of frequencies. I then tuned my anytone VFO to those frequencies in DMR mode and instantly copied the traffic in those repeaters. One of the repeaters had Color Code 15! The radio also displayed the talkgroup number and timeslot as well. I then quickly hit the * key and my radio immediately loaded the correct Color code, correct talk group, and correct timeslot so I could jump right in and QSO. I call that feature "capture the talkgroup". After QSO I easily saved the frequency to a memory channel for regular access. I also did this with another nearby repeater. All of this with no computer or software. Please dig into my other videos to see about how to setup the radio to quickly "manual dial" to any talkgroup, even if it is not programmed in the radio. In another video, I demonstrate how easy it is to manually add talkgroups to the talkgroup list without using a computer or software! 73s!

    Thanks for the video! Would you be able to explain the “slot hold” option? I wasn’t able to determine exactly how that functions. Will it simply maintain the traffic from one time slot indefinitely when there is traffic on that slot? Thanks again.

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The double slot allows the radio to hear both time slots. I believe slot hold feature opens up the * button feature. I call the * key feature "capture the talkgroup". Let's say you are monitoring several talkgroups simultaneously in static modes. Digital monitor will allow you to hear the traffic, regardless if color code, talk group, or time slot. The slot hold allows you to simply press the * key and the radio will give you a response on screen indicating you can now just hit the PTT and the radio will immediately key up the new talkgroup in the appropriate color code. TG and timeslot. If you search through my other videos, you will see how to unlock the random manual dial a talkgroup feature, and also this "capture the talkgroup feature for immediate QSO'S. You will quickly figure out that with these features, you can get away with using any repeater or hotspot from 1 channel per repeater, and one channel per hotspot. It destroys the need for complex codeplugs with multiple channels for each repeater or hotspot. You can hear everything and key up ANY random talkgroup manually, including the last heard with the * key. You can literally stumble into a DMR repeater in VFO mode, and immediately hear its traffic, and hit the * key then PTT to immediately join in to QSO.

      @@k9wlwradio309 Yes sir! Thanks! I was familiar with most of the digi monitoring functions, except for the explicit feature of “slot hold”...which, according to the 878 manual, the radio won’t swap immediately to the other time slot traffic when there is a lack of signal, but yet waits for an “audio drop”, which seems to be the same thing in my opinion. I was just looking for further detail but it’s not super critical. Thanks for responding! Much appreciated. Keep up the vids! Great stuff! 73

    • @nilpo
      @nilpo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Slot Hold is a feature designed for use with monitoring both time slots at the same time. Ordinarily, when signal drops off one slot, the radio will switch slots (instead of waiting for the audio to finish decoding). With slot hold enabled, the radio will wait a few seconds after the signal drops, until the transmitted audio ends, before switching.
      tldr; You want Slot Hold turned on!

    Can you program the radio just to receive if you don’t have a license yet? I’m studying to get mine but the covid 19 has put a stop to testing

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can. You would only be able to listen to analog or DMR repeaters. In order to configure a hotspot you would first need a callsign for your hotspot and also a DMR ID number to use it for DMR. I hope you can get your license soon! I personally think using a personal digital hotspot is a must! With a hotspot your free to go to whatever talkgroups or networks you want to. Additionally many of today's hotspots allow you to cross mode to other digital networks from just 1 radio. Openspot 3 will give you full DMR access, as well as crossmoding into the C4FM (Fusion) world, The DStar world, and even the NXDN Reflector world. Lots of potential activity out of one DMR handheld with a hotspot like that!

    That's aweesome - is there a way to make it only listen on a single timeslot? A lot of repeaters here have local traffic on TS2 and user dialed on TS1 - and they're both busy - I don't want to hear both. Ideally I'd set the TS in the channel, and be able to listen (and connect) to "whatever group" on that timeslot.

    • @k9wlwradio309

      Yes. Go to menu, Digi Moni, DigiMoni switch and instead of Double Slot, select single slot. Then just switch the radio to which of the 2 slots you want to hear. That will filter out the unwanted time slot.

    Will this work while scanning channels in scan mode ?

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe it will. If you are NOT in Promiscuous Mode, it will not open the squelch on random DMR talkgroups. In Promiscuous mode, ANY DMR traffic from ANY DMR signal on any scanned DMR channel with ANY Talkgroup and ANY color code should open the squelch and therefore be captured during a scan. In other words, I would describe this as a MUST use feature to scan DMR signals effectively. NOT using this setting would let the radio skip over the random DMR traffic and therefore be missed.

  • @markgriffin2285
    @markgriffin2285 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I assume the promiscuous mode will only work if you are using repeaters? I tried the mode on the 868 and only use a hotspot. I had it on TAC 3100 and only heard that particular channel. Am I correct in that assumption? KB3Z

    • @k9wlwradio309

      I am unfamiliar with the moto turbo radio's features. I would hope that the radio has settings that would pit the radio in "Promiscuous Mode". All that means, is the radio will hear any talkgroup, any color code, and either time slot that is transmitted on the frequency the radio is tuned too. You might get more info in a moto turbo users group in Facebook for specifics about if and how you can change those settings in the radio.
