I own this snare and it's one of the most uniquely sounding drums I have ever played. Very aggressive (it should come with a weapon license), yet warm and very dynamically sounding.. gotta watch your ghost notes though, they might come out sounding like regular hits. AND you'll easily be louder than your guitarist.. what more can you ask for :D
Drummers know...Abe is a legend!! His ghost notes and hi-hat work are top-notch. The song "Prince" is one his best examples. One of...if not the, most underrated drummers of all time

Pretty much a remake of his OCDP 6.5x14 Vented Snare he used on "Around the Fur" and "White Pony". This one is just made out of brass. I am loving my Orange County vented snare but this one would be a good one for the collection.

And yeah that snare is killer, he still uses it in the studio I think... man uses a lot of different stuff in the studio I think though, in this video you can see 2 snares behind him. He also uses different cymbals (saw a Paiste china on a pic!).. Killer guy, always about the groove and tone of his kit
Looks like this snare was discontinued, most major retailers that were carrying it no say "No Longer Available." Does anyone have any idea why? Drum was barely available for a year.

I am a AC146 owner. I really would like to learn the tensions of ABE to keep the tone. Cause i am always high or low. Literally couldnt find the exact tone :D Also if you the same for the StarClassic Bubinga, i'll again be really happy ..
Try different heads, different wires, different room acoustic. Remember that Abe sound is created mostly in the studio (mixing, EQ, compression, effects). Keep in mind that this video is also EQed and compressed as well

Too much ring for me but I get the idea. Personally, I prefer a sharp crack with little to no ring to it, akin to a large piccolo snare.
