He was in his late 60's when this was filmed but he's still going strong today.

Absolutely!!! Tommy has good taste because I feel Bonham and Paige have been my two favorites since I was a little girl. Then as a teen of course it was Motley Crue.

We built a garage at Tommy Lee's dad's house in Bullhead City, Az., in the early '90s I think it was. He took us into the house and showed us commemorative records he had hanging on the walls. He was very proud of his son.

Jorge. Sammy is classic rock. classic rock wasnt dubbed classic rock back then. not until grunge and alternative hit town..did our rock music from the 80s and earlier, now become the genere 'Classic Rock'..well Sammy has had that classic rock sound since early 70s..naturally.

@@MaximumDecibels lol. It's always been classic rock. Back in the day I guarantee someone said to the Beatles, and eventually every band that took that rout, "Man that's going to be an instant classic" therefore it was so. Classic Rock was born from the moment it hit the airwaves.

As a drummer in my early 60’s I have respect and admiration for Tommy’s enthusiasm and energy. I’ll say the same for my man Sammy. Loved Michael’s Bass chops too. Awesome guys!

This was one of the best episodes yet. Really enjoyed the show and soon as I heard the drums, I knew it was Rock Candy. One of my favorite of all Sammy's songs and they rocked it out. Haven't heard anything from Chickenfoot for a while and you know Chad Smith is busy. Might as well pick up Tommy and throw down!

Daayyyummm! I'm 52 years old and have seen all those guys back in the day. I've seen Sammy 4 times, 2 nights in a row in St. Louis. When they just broke into "Rock Candy" I got goosebumps and my eyes teared up!! Fucking Awesome guys, Keep on Rockin'!

Interesting that with all the focus given to Tommy (as guest) and Sammy (as host), the quiet bass player in the studio had the biggest legacy power of all of them. Love Tommy and the Crue, and Sammy and his HoF career path... but they still need to ride backseat to the original Mighty Van Halen with Mike. What a cool dude. Ed and Al treated him like sh!t at the end, but Mike always seemed to hold his cool, understood his place, and worked his ass off amongst the VH circus show. IMHO, that's lasting star power. Sammy's smart to keep Mike close.

Second that.. some of the best backing vocals in all rock music and some of the most badass TH-cam clips of him getting drunk playing bass. These three might be like an all time good dudes of rock trio deal.. good stuff
I don't think Mike wants to get much attention or be a front man. If he did, he would've/would. IMO He does put on a Helluva show live though!

@@stevebanning902 Hey Steve - Agree to disagree. EVH may have been the GOAT on guitar and the innovation of the instrument - but he was far from that when it came to his working relationship history. That history has been documented pretty clearly that he was an unreasonable control-freak that threw just about everyone he worked with (other than his brother and son) under the bus along each chapter of the VH story. Yes, Mike may not be GOAT-class when it comes to his bass playing, but to say he is "over-rated" is just wrong. Not only was (is) he under-valued as one of the best "pocket" players and prominent backing singers in rock history, but he was also the glue that helped keep the VH express train rolling as the EVH vs. Roth and EVH vs. Hagar personality battles began to erode each of those chapters in the saga. I love EVH as an innovator - but as a human being and band leader, the way he (and Alex) treated Mike at the end was terrible... In the end, Mike moved on with Sammy to create new music (and hot sauce), tours and positive energy with Chickenfoot, The Waboritas, Planet Us, and now The Circle --- whereas the VH brothers did as little as possible, eventually taking a money grab to release their final mediocre final studio/live recordings and tours with Vaudeville Dave. Again, agree to disagree.
And let me say, Michael Anthony is one of the sweetest, kindest human beings on earth.
This truly felt special. Maybe the best I've heard Sammy sing and play guitar together in a long time. And the love and power in Tommy's playing - sweet baby Jesus!! Together with Mr. Anthony this was magic!!!!

Man this was so awesome that Tommy started & Sammy had absolutely NO Clue what song he was gonna pick. Sammy knew it right away. This came together beautifully. Just sounded amazing. (Song: Montrose's- rock candy!) Wow!!
I have so many versions of Rock Candy that Sammy has done over the years. His voice sounds just as perfect and strong on this recording as any I have heard. Ronnie Montrose was a joy to listen to and see; on stage with Montrose or Gamma, or performing Town Without Pity on Saturday Night Live.
That was an excellent rendition of that song. I can't believe Sammy can still sing like that. Anthony and Lee both were amazingly in the pocket with guitar as well.
This should evolve into a side band !

musicians are a creative breed. it's nice to hear conversation between these two and how they think instead of just watching them perform. they truly have touched many people's hearts with their music.

This was from 6 years ago, Sammy would have been 68 years old and he was absolutely killing it. Crazy thing is, he’s now 74 and can still do it. I hope he passes on his health secrets to the rest of us.

Playing music keeps you young. He probably doesn't smoke at all or drink much these days and gets to bed early. Plus he's got the best doctor money can buy. Not very Rock & Roll but if he really lived that lifestyle like he did in his 20's & 30's he would have been gone 15 years already.
Love that they just go into it no rehearsal no practice and they absolutely killed it. It’s the energy they all had. All big smiles and just rocking. Maybe there was mistakes but you would never know or even care just cuz the vibe was so sick. Love it. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I got my first guitar after seeing Sammy Hagar live in the early 80’s in Texas. He was so cool up there. And he remained cool throughout the years. He brought Van Halen a second life. Gave them a new lease on rock.

Saw Sammy Hagar last night. What a professional and humble man. He posed for pictures with his fans, signed autographs & gave shots of his tequila to the fans in the front row. (Unlike Mike Reno from Loverboy who refused to sign my wife's size 3 red leather pants but signed the 2 other girls poster) Sammy is the only musician who we have ever seen DO THIS. Keep up the amazing work 👏
Tommy is one of my favorites. I’m proud that Tommy does Tommy - imagine going up in the Rock/Roll life beginning at 17/18. Shit, the things I would’ve done out of just being a kid with $1M.
On a side note, all the passageways in Tommy’s pad are tall. They look normal when he walks through them, but my short 5’6” ass would need a lug wrench to pry to doors open.

You need to get out more, there are literally hundreds of amazing drummers on youtube 10x better than Tommy. Tommy is famous for things unrelated to actual drumming.

Rock keeps you young. They all had that rush of playing together and the excitement of the moment had them nearly speechless at the end they were just savoring the moment and the music. Miss that feeling. Nothing comes close to jamming with your bros.

My husband played drums for over 40 years until his death in 2020 and he said the same thing bonham was his favorite and hes right he played his heart out before all this techno stuff. The drummer is the heart of the band and it takes alot of strength because your using your whole body.

That was awesome! I've always loved Tommy's drumming, the way he pauses a brief half second before he hits the cymbal has always been cool. Seriously is it me or do his drumsticks look like they are 3 feet long!? haha
That was fucking awesome! I never saw Sammy live but I did see Mötley Crüe back in 85, Toledo Ohio, Tommy Lees drum set was front and center and vertical, I was in front looking up at him, those guys put on such an amazing show! I miss the 80s, Live shows have never been the same!
Say what you want, but I love when Tommy gets behind a kit. You can tell he loves it too. Also, not a lot of drummers hit as hard as he does. He is through and through a rock n roll drummer. An underrated drummer I might add.
