THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! I just passed my CA State Board exam ! Woot Woot ! Your video was AMAZING ! This was really helpful to be able to watch over and over on my own time at night. To anyone out there - This is one of the BEST video to watch and practice at the same time ! It was perfect !To anyone other, GOOD LUCK ! Best, Liberty.
liberty koppelmann Alyxzandria Maine Solano hi. I’m planning on taking the nail tech 4 month training. Any suggestions? Is there a written part of the test? How long does the test take and where? I’m in LA. Thanks.
I am very impressed with this video. In Rhode Island we have little to no information on state board exams and practical exams. At least my school doesn't offer the information freely. I appreciate all the video uploads ;)
I’m now in nail school and the students had a lil 10 minute state board drill where they had to do natural length and polish and top coat and so this is very helpful video cuz being new it can kinda be a scary thing at state boards but the instructor we have is Amazing and explains things so we’ll just like u did here on this video. Her students has a 90-98% state board passing rate🤗🤗 if they failed it was sumtin they did and not the instructor cuz she makes that day so easy for the student to make it and receive their license.
Thanks for posting this. I am going to take state board pretty soon and was always kinda confused about the ratio of liquid to powder and what kind of product bead they made. This video showed that and explained perfectly!
I'm taking my practical exam today. eek! I'm so nervous. I've watched this video and the manicure one probably 20 times. odorless monomer is the devil. I'm amazing with normal acrylic but the stuff is for the birds. lol thank you for making these videos!!!
Wow, she's giving me tips I didn't get in nail school. She has me second guessing my school, these are important pointers. So glad I ran across this video.
For some of the state board practical tests (like Georgia for example) you do. You also mock the primer and use a mannequin hand with faux nails attached to simulate the nail plate. Its also odorless product so I'm not sure if it would stick or set very well if it was not etched.
You teach better than the teachers at school I graduated in 2008 and they teach me nothing! I am stuck with my student loan and I did pass in that time my practical but never the written, now I went back to take my cosmetology test again and now I have to do both and I see that now is so different from the time I took mine thank you for your videos their are very helpful I have my exam on April 30th wish me luck ;)
Exam tomorrow 12/10/14 License will be in my hand at the end of the exam :) Thank you Both for all the help and vase amount of information you have to shared with me and many, many other students
I really liked this video. I, too, have also purchased the odorless kit. I have watched many How To acrylic videos and this one by far is the best! Thank You for posting.
Thank u so much for this video tho💯💯I needed to see exactly how short to make the free edge that they require from state boards some of the students didn’t have it long enough and some didn’t have it short enough but mind u it’s only been a few weeks for some and if they like me this is my first week☺️☺️
Great video, I bought some odorless acrylic and just wanted to know how to use forms and u taught me much more than that now I will be able to do a good job. Thanks for the good information and instructions.
Yes, you should. I know it is not shown on the video, but we always advise the students to pour all the liquids over the trash bag. This channel has an actual manicuring video on a model that shows that part of the procedure. Good observation, thanks!
I just wanted to say thank you SO MUCH for uploading these state board demo videos. We practiced the procedures a lot at school, but never had a proper demonstration on how to exactly perform them, and you explain how to do it perfectly in order to pass. I just took my exam on thursday and I passed!:) because I have been watching your videos daily...you are such a wonderful teacher and it shows that you really do care about your student's performance...thank you so much, I really appreciate it:)
Wow, Ok. When I started doing acrylic nails my ball of acrylic never fell off the brush. I use even amounts of powder and liquid and it works great for me.
glad i found this video and glad to know there is odorless because my husband hates the smell and he says it flares up his migraines! :) But the last time I did my nails I lite candles all day and he didn't notice. But I might give the odorless a try sometime. :)
In GA you need to apply a fake nail/nail tip to the whole "nail bed" on the finger of the fake hand beforehand. Just make sure when you clip the tip you leave enough of a free edge to secure the form underneath the nail. Also make sure you bring odorless liquid. A person in my testing room didn't and was unable to do much of the sculptured nail and I felt really bad for her. Good luck and try not to be too nervous! You'll do great!! :-D
You don't need to remove it for state board, but if you want to remove an acrylic from a plastic fingernail, just soak it in acetone, or use the cuticle nipper to cut off and remove the acrylic; you can do both, too.
For sculptured nail we did not push the cuticle because we do it during the manicure part of the exam; there are many ways of filling, but regardless of the way of filing the nail, we need to lift the file from time to time to make sure that it does not burn the nail from constant friction. If the nail has an acrylic on, we can file the free edge back and forth, since it is plastic and not a real nail that has nail fibers (filing back and forth weakens the natural nail fibers)
Some kit companies that rent or sell the kit have the nails already attached to the finger; if you want them to stick; file the nail and the finger well and try the crazy glue.
The direction booklet does not ask for a polish; we did it before though. If you go to state board website, all the instructions are there, step-be-step. Try NIC testingprogramdatabase for cosmetology or manicuring instructions; they have it all laid out; I tried to paste it for you, but it has too many characters.
You use a mannequin and a plastic hand for California state board starting Spring of 2012. This channel has a playlist of state board demos that will help you with your exam. Make sure to pay attention to the videos that are uploaded after September, 2011; that is when the whole test procedures have been modified.
Sandra Koehler you can always ask your nail not to make them so thick. Both my sis and I go to the same nail tech and I get them thick and my sis hates them thick so the gets the thin. Its is just a sample of our state board test.
where did you get your hand? and did they have the tips already on the nail? i take my boards on Sunday and the finger i bought is super awkward and has no tip and when i try to glue a tip on and do the form it wont stay. Thanks so much for all of your videos they have helped a ton!!!
The kit company that rents to students gave us the hand with the nails. You can buy the artificial nails from any beauty store, like Sally's, Maly's, Cosmoproff... If you buff the nail bed of the plastic finger and the inside of the artificial nail and add glue, it will stick well.
Don't worry about the manicuring test, it is so easy, you don't even have to find a model; all you need is a plastic hand; and there are no surprises; you know exactly what's on the practical exam, and you even know the order of operations. 8 months ago it was much harder, so you are lucky; they have changed it. Just follow your teacher's instructions and you'll be fine.
go across the state border to Texas or Mississippi and take the nail course, then transfer your license. I hope you are close enough to a border to do this. I can't part my hair either! Texas continues to discuss the distance education program (taking your theory online) but they haven't moved on it yet.
Does it matter what color you use when doing an odorless application on your state exam? I heard most use clear but i only have OPI sheer pink and Opi white, does it matter??
I am in Wa state. What scares me the most about the Nail tech test is how do i set up? In my mock test we set up the way we do in class and almost failed. when we first get to our table for the test and it is set up time, can i tape a small spray sanitizer and paper towel to the bag to clean my table before i even open my bag? I have been told that every time i get into my bag i need to sanitize. When you clean up before turning the hand outward, do i change towels each set or do i use paper towel?
Always clean (spray sanitizer) the table and chair and any shelves you will be using! Then after that you can play your sanitizer on the table. Sanitize your hands then set up!
FYI: You can take two hands for ca state board one for the manicure and one for the sculpted nail that way you don't bother with removing the red nail polish 🤓
Oh, this one is just for state board; it is a strict state board procedure, so we do what they ask for. It is to get the state board license; for the examination.
BbeautyAholic....how did your stateboard exam go??? Im starting school in the fall for nail tech and was wondering if it was as nerve wrecking as everybody says it is!
They don't allow to use a drill at state board. This is how they ask us to do the nail part of the state exam. This video is only to help students to pass the test on the plastic finger.
This video is to pass the cosmetology state board exam. Forms take a long time to do and not all nail technicians use them. They use tips instead. Just request them; maybe they will do it if you request them.
How come when you go to a nail salon they do not use forms? Is it necessary or is it only used for/during schooling? I hope to take cosmetology soon so I was wondering. Thank you.
and it's not about what it looks like when dried it's knowing the ratio of the monomer to polymer ! they only care if they can apply not the after look !(:
Jennifer Franco yes ! Everything she did is correct !! Manicure , nail tip sculptured nail and polish with the three strokes with red nail polish . I passed first time . And have been working as a nail tech ever since !
what is the name of this acrylic procedure, where this no artificial tip added ? if i were to go to a nail salon and want this done on all my nails, what would i ask for ?
Ughh thank you for the information im in NYC so im assuming it will be the same I cant find any info and my teacher keeps saying when your ready ill let you know lol whatevss im damn good at the application mu speed is the issue any tips and thank you for the great video
What you can do is search for NYC State Board Website for information, or if you have any kit rent companies, they will give you info too. www.dos.ny.gov/licensing/cosmetology/cosmetology.html

Did you need to take ur own supplies? Also they test you on manicure and acrylic and what else please thank you so much in advance
liberty koppelmann hey do I add the nail before the test on the whole finger or edge of the finger
Shes the kind of instructed all students need she explains in detail and beyond taking this test soon..oh boy it really helps watching this video
I am very impressed with this video. In Rhode Island we have little to no information on state board exams and practical exams. At least my school doesn't offer the information freely. I appreciate all the video uploads ;)
Congratulations! And thank you for coming back to the channel to let us know how the test was!

Never pick ball up wants it hits towel its got dust particles on it can cause lifting later and that is one tiny brush !
That's what the state board gives you. Don't like it? Go bitch at them.
@prancer1000 the brush is different because it is odourless monomer!!!
@@JohnDoe-xr4bg No need to be hostile! Evereyone is just commenting. I wasthinking the same thing.

Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your thorough explanation. I had some challenges with working the product but tapping it makes sense.
Not for Arizona, but the kit companies for Southern California are in the same building and at the next shopping center where the state board is.
great demo! as I have yet to work with odorless acrylic this was beyond helpful since I will have to work with it for state board..thanks:)
Your page is too helpful for me. Thank you to make those tutorials 💞
This is for California state exam; if you go to barbercosmo site, you'll find the requirements for manicuring exam in detail.

For the NIC national cosmetology test you need to do just a manicure and a sculptured nail. No more pedicures, tips or wraps! Easy, yes?
is this good for the state of maryland i noticed a couple things a little different from what i had previously learned in cosmetology school?

In the UK we have 1 hour for a full set! 20 mins for 1 nail is loadss of time :-)
because the UK is a full course unlike America

Jacqueline Arellano only one for Utah
Jacquelinearellano
inNC TOO
She means you have 20 minutes at state board to do the nail test; this video is for the exam only; how to pass the exam to get the license.
i thought you can not pile back and forth. it has to be one direction only. which is right?
thanks
On acrylics it can be a back and forth motion but on natural nail is one way only corner to center
Great Job!!
Oh, this one is just for state board; it is a strict state board procedure, so we do what they ask for. It is to get the state board license; for the examination.
You welcome!
Do you know which place sells a manicuring kit especially with the hand mannequin attached with the nail tips?
When i go home I'm gonna try using a small brush like that 😃 thanks
Thank you for your kind words. I will subscribe to your channel.
Files usually are disposable, so they need to be thrown away after each client.
BbeautyAholic....how did your stateboard exam go??? Im starting school in the fall for nail tech and was wondering if it was as nerve wrecking as everybody says it is!
Not for California state board; they used to test on nail tips, but now they only test on sculptured nail.
Yes, that what California state board wants; before there were silk wraps, tips, etc. It is much easier now.
No more nail tip for California. That part of the test was removed since September, 2011.
California you are tested on how to apply a nail tip. a sculptured nail. and paint the whole hand
I take the state board exam for California in 3 weeks... They do the manicure, nail tip, sculptured nail, and all polished with red polish.
Alyxzandria Maine Solano can you give me tips on the test? I am taking the exam in a week.
They don't allow to use a drill at state board. This is how they ask us to do the nail part of the state exam. This video is only to help students to pass the test on the plastic finger.
6 moths old. It is a demo to pass the new state board sculptured nail procedure.
This video is to pass the cosmetology state board exam. Forms take a long time to do and not all nail technicians use them. They use tips instead. Just request them; maybe they will do it if you request them.
I am taking the Georgia practical Monday! Do you have a nail tip attached to finger prior to test? Or is the nail tip necessary?
Very informative. Thank you.
i appreciate this video
Thank you!
So After Your Done With The Nail You Dont Have To Do The Red Nail Polish After?
do you guys do make-up as well will love to see some of that .but love your work cant stop :)
it is on the "natural nail". You have to add a tip to the fake hand, since it doesn't have a nail itself, so it acts as a natural nail.
How come when you go to a nail salon they do not use forms? Is it necessary or is it only used for/during schooling? I hope to take cosmetology soon so I was wondering. Thank you.
So , When Your Done With Putting The Acrylic & Everything On There , How Do You Get It All Off So I Goes Back To Being Blank ?
acrylic application is not good at all
It's for state board and the product is the odorless oily kind, so it looks different when it is applied.
and it's not about what it looks like when dried it's knowing the ratio of the monomer to polymer ! they only care if they can apply not the after look !(:
Alyxzandria Maine Solano so for the California test everything she did is correct ?
Yes
Jennifer Franco yes ! Everything she did is correct !! Manicure , nail tip sculptured nail and polish with the three strokes with red nail polish . I passed first time . And have been working as a nail tech ever since !
Good luck!
what is the name of this acrylic procedure, where this no artificial tip added ? if i were to go to a nail salon and want this done on all my nails, what would i ask for ?
do u have to use the plastic hand there for the tesy ive got tons of models willing to let me use their hands I dont do very well with the hand... lol
+Suthrn Belle Bunni California State Board requires plastic hand for manicure and artificial nail part of the test at this time.
In nv sanitizing client hand with cotton on orangewood stick... not with your hands that I know of. Good video
Ohio state board requires you to wear gloves when applying the primer. Is this accurate?
are you supposed to paint the acrylic nail?
where did you get these nail forms? or is there a special name for them?
Where did you get the nails and how did you make it stick?
You can send a personal mail to this channel, and I can answer your questions back directly to your personal space.
BeautyHealthTravel i bought the fake hand to practice on but how do i remove the nail from the hand after im done doing the acrylic?
BeautyHealthTravel
Hi I know this is an older video, but would u mind telling me where I can find the hand and the odorless acrylic from? Also, what color polish and what brand are u wearing? It's beautiful. Thank u:)
what type/brand of brush did you use?
State board directions are to throw the leftover powder and liquid away to the trash.
can you have a full set on yourself...and go take tge board test?
Hello. I live in Arizona and am preparing to take the exam. Do you know where I can rent a kit like what you have?
what about the nail dehydrator
Which state is this for? Does anyone know how the california manicurist exam go? Do we sculpt the nail after the manicure or use overlays and pedicures @_@?
What is the name of the hand being used?
