If it has a driveshaft problem then engaging the PTO will sound rough, with no water in the tank/or no supply it will also sound rough at the pump casing!
As ff capes said mate need to open the tank valve if its an automatic prime your ok some have a recip pump automaticly priming or older models have a water ring system good luck keep us posted

Hi mate, when your pumping water through you want to push the large blue handle down, this will open the tank and it should sound smoother as well 👍
