I am so happy that you are doing this and excited to see the next video. I removed the carpet from my steps about a year ago and they need refinished but I'm at a loss of how to do it. I've learned so much from your videos. I can't wait to see your steps when they are all done!
You are so very lucky to have had a finished staircase under the carpet! I would love to remove the carpet on mine, but I know it's just plywood underneath. Just in case you have more carpet to remove (like in your bedroom), I'll share an experience with you. I've removed, by myself, well over 1,000 square feet of carpet from my basement this year and a carpet knife and mini crowbar, which is made for removing the tack strips), made it a little easier - which, being in a wheelchair, I really appreciated. The largest area of the basement carpet was cheap Berber and I tried so many knives (hooks, scissors, utility knives, etc.) to find one that would work. This is the type that worked, by far, the best. It's appearance doesn't seem much different than a utility knife, but, let me tell you, it works sooo much better. That Berber about killed me, LOL. But, this type of knife, with the rectangular blade (all sides are very sharp) and a great deal of the blade is exposed, is the best. www.amazon.com/Stanley-10-555-FatMaxCarpet-Knife/dp/B000BQWBL4/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1407945741&sr=8-11&keywords=carpet+knife Just be careful not to cut yourself as I did. :) Anyway, your staircase already looks wonderful even after just part 1. You continue to be my hero!
Wow, you are Wonder Woman! I would have been afraid of getting into the middle of the project and losing steam or just getting overwhelmed by it. You are so brave, and you keep at it til it's done. You are so inspiring!
The stairs look beautiful..what a great find under that carpet! Looking forward to the upcoming videos and the finished product! ~Stephani Have a wonderful week
Sophia you are AMAZING! I can't believe you tackled this project in the middle of July! I'm really happy for you. I'm sure it feels great to get this started and I look forward to your remaining videos :)
Terry here again. I know I just commented on another vid, but I had to comment on this one as well before I get going here with day. I've got shopping and a doctors visit today. This is something I've wanted to do to my staircase for so long, but my stairs under the carpet are not finished like yours were, just bare wood. There's literally hundreds-maybe thousands of staples to be pulled out too (yikes!). You are so brave to take on this project. LOL You did an absolutely beautiful job on yours and they look beautiful! I've thought about taking on this job, but it scares me to death. My staircase is on display for the world because they're right in front of my front door. I'm so hooked on your vids here, the hubby laughs at me every time he hears the music from one of your vids again, but he's happy that I'm getting inspired by them with so much work I'm getting caught up on. I'm still contemplating ripping the carpet off the stairs anyway and getting started with that--may the force be with me--sigh-- I may screw this up, but I hope not.
Philip Daigle Terry I have one lady subscriber who did hers as well after watching the video and she sent me before and after pictures, She too was scared but is not looking back now, I can tell you that much. THink about it in terms of how much less you will have to clean.
Thank you! I could not get my carpet off because I started at the bottom. I didn't think to start the carpet removal from the top step. This really helped.
I'm newly subscribed to your channel and I love your enthusiasm ! you remind me so much of my mom ,who taught me how to build and fix things :D Don't listen to people commenting on your talking. I , truly appreciate the process and I'm so excited to learn something :D
oh please, I don t pay them no mind, there is always someone who has something to say, someone who judges, someone who just is not impressed....I could not care less, my job is never going to please everyone, if it was, I would have a life driven by complete structure and order by fear of offending. I am just being me
Ooh, I've tackled those staples before! Thanks for filming, I am in an old house now (1901) about to get on those stairs. Ugh. At least no carpet to deal with. Ok, onto your next video, I know it's years later since you've filmed. Ha! You're helping me now though:-)
This is the very first video of yours that I watched and if I remember correctly, I told you that you were crazy. After all of these years, I stand corrected.
I would love to do this in my house, but my house is only about twelve years old so the stairs are probably made out of junky chip board. Ugh. Still...SO worth it! Can't wait to see this whole project. Thank you! And wouldn't it be cool if one of those stair boards was loose and you found a metal box filled with gold inside? My childhood dream...LOL
Sophia - you are my kind of lady! You make me laugh, and I mean that in a good way, I just love you! You are one smart lady and a go - getter, you take the bull by the horns! I wish you the best in all you do, and thank you for keeping it real!
Just an FYI if you get a set of clamps (like medical clamps) it makes it a ton easier to lift carpet! Just wondering if you fill in any cracks in the steps or just leave them?
Your stair case already looks better and truer to your home, Carpeting is alright, but would much rather have wooden stairs and floors! Thanks for sharing :). Gretchen
I feel like we're sisters. I have a 1910 bungalow with the ugly medium dark green carpet on the stairs that I want to leave the carpeting on the top landing, too since it leads into the upstairs hallway that will have to be a later project. 👍
Hey, there are tutorials on how to convert a regular door to a French door. No different than how they do it with kitchen cabinet doors. That way you wouldn't have to rehang a new door, which is a nightmare. Just a thought!
Hi it took you only eight minutes to get to the point. I really didn’t want to hear everything regarding your house it makes no difference to me but thankfully now wonderful wonderful you’re getting to the point
Uuhu - I'm exhausted watching this. I took out all the carpeting in the master addition when I moved in with my husband. That's a job, girl! You could try to get some hot wax poured in between the floorboard cracks. It worked for my hallway.
Removing nails and tacks can take hours be patient they make a screw driver with a grove in to that can help didnt have one so cut a notch in an over sized screw driver alowed me to make a tool that saved me time
Your are so self disciplined to do all this on your day off. I would like to know how far in advance do you plan d.i.y type projects or do you just wake up with a bee in your bonnet?
BellinaSkyBright I have been thinking about this since we bought the house, so it definitely was in the back of my head. but most of the time once I start a projet I only have a vague idea of how to proceed, I just move with the flow I guess.

It's likely the wood is fir. I love your ideas and I especially love that you're doing it yourself. Being handy is an excellent skill:)
What a huge job but it will look fantastic when you are done Sophia! How long have you and your family been in this house?
Wow!! Girl, you are such a do-er! SO inspiring!! Good job! I bet your husband is not shaking his head at you now!

I'm jealous! I hoped for finished stairs when I peeked under my carpet last year, but alas!!
Great Job !!! Your really very talented all your projects turn out so beautiful ...
Ooh, I've tackled those staples before! Thanks for filming, I am in an old house now (1901) about to get on those stairs. Ugh. At least no carpet to deal with. Ok, onto your next video, I know it's years later since you've filmed. Ha! You're helping me now though:-)

Woohoo!! Great Job Sophia!!
I know how you HATE that Carpet!!
It has to feel so gratifying!!
I'm bing watching your videos today March 24, 2018. You did an awesome job I can't wait until you get rid of the rest in your room.
Carpet removal started from 8:03
A C thanks, she talks so much about irrelevant things if I were the carpet I’d get up and walk away.
Thanks,Angie H.!!!!!!! I did the fast forward.........

I love your home projects. You do a great job. Thank you for sharing. I ant wait to see the next step. :)
that idea you have for a door will be beautiful especially if you can get one with etching on it
Just an FYI if you get a set of clamps (like medical clamps) it makes it a ton easier to lift carpet! Just wondering if you fill in any cracks in the steps or just leave them?
Hey Sophia love your videos and also I love your accent.........
How long did it take you to remove all the nails and staples? Love the step by step instructions!
Few hours. I work fast but it s back breaking.
We could hang out. For me removing all the nails and staples was the most back breaking part of this project
Love your videos
great job! inspiring Sophia! :-)
I love this video!

brightpurpleviking Gonna have to check it out!

Curious why not paint first. Then yucky carpet can get paint on it instead of risking newly done floor?

I should have said that the hot wax between the floorboard cracks stopped the creaking floorboards.
Removing nails and tacks can take hours be patient they make a screw driver with a grove in to that can help didnt have one so cut a notch in an over sized screw driver alowed me to make a tool that saved me time
Sophia you are a superwoman. You have a very lucky husband! Love your videos.
Your are so self disciplined to do all this on your day off. I would like to know how far in advance do you plan d.i.y type projects or do you just wake up with a bee in your bonnet?

updated full house tour please
I really need to remove my stair carpet..i will one day x
Wow you take on some tasks lol. Wouldnt you be better wearing a mask for the dusty work. x
You look like Yifat in the Israeli TV series “Srugim.” See if you agree.
...oh and Sophia, you can put braces underneath the staircase to connect the riser to the tread if there is space between them to stop the squeeking.
The power of a woman!
yes, I think I'm just 2 minutes you will run to get gloves.
?sagar
I am sure that you will find good way to make it on woodprix Webpage.
