    Stringer was so blinded it was amazing. He was practically begging to get conned. Every time he tried to act gangster around Clay Davis, clay was telling him he’s not ready. He’s trying to mould it in that Stringer cannot be disappointed and get all gangster with it when those permits don’t come in at all. String could not see the signs and was too arrogant to ask anybody else for advice. Levy was the playmaker the whole damn time and if Stringer had these plans, Levy would have shown him all the real connections, with a massive fee to himself from both parties but it would have been more secure and worthwhile.

    “You see if we go upstairs, we’ll spook him, so he’s coming down’’
    The thing that separates guys like string and clay Davis is simply knowing and not knowing.
    It’s not a complex strategy or sophisticated tactic. Simply just denying someone from getting into the office/meeting room/table by lying to them, is all it takes.

    • @16sshotz
      @16sshotz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@16sshotz because then you can pass it off as ‘’I was simply just in the lobby while another person was there too’’ as opposed to legit inviting someone into your office where others can see and know there were conversations being had in your office.
      String is a drug dealer. Clay Davis and the other guy are politicians/businessmen……..String + Clay Davis/other guy + being seen = no bueno
      Not to mention, it’s how other people treat others. You don’t let the nerds, geeks and outcasts sit at the cool kids table, and it lets them know where they stand. You don’t let certain people into the cool kids club, so you don’t let them enter the clubhouse.

      Clay shouldn't have been seen with drug dealers in the first place. It drew ire and suspicion. Bell and Barksdale were under police surveillance. Later on, Davis came under investigation for his campaign finances and spending. Although he is stealing from the dealers, the cops suspect that he somehow is actually involved in the actually dealing of drugs and receiving a payout. It was very risky and foolish for Davis to "play away games" like Stringer as well. His reputation took another hit.

      Clay Davis is a calculating, methodical con artist. He wouldn't go after someone he can't get away with ripping off. I'm pretty sure he knows the risks of dealing with people in the drug trade.
      Plus, in the scheme of things, the Baltimore drug lords don't really have that much power. Most likely they wouldn't be able to gather intel on the whereabouts of a politician's family, if Prop Joe's methods are anything to go by, lol. Unlike the Greeks, they can't go after any high profile targets because obviously that would be bad for business.

    • @noblesj2
      @noblesj2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I disagree, Stringer was never built to actually do the work and wanted to do what you’re suggesting but that’s a dumb move on the drug dealer ( stringer) part. Anything happens to a government official and the game is over, Clay Davis or not, the heat that would be generated by kidnapping or killing an elected official’s family member or friend would NEVER work out in any crime lord or mob boss long term.

    • @doveyhandwand
      @doveyhandwand 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noblesj2 Stringer wanted to kill Davis not one of his family members. That was crazy, but not unfathomable. A family member or friend can be touched, and it not draw intense scrutiny especially if the politician is Black. It's happened before. And it depends on who the drug or crime lord is connected to. If they have the right connections (other politicians, businessmen, certain govt. agencies) they can make the person's death look accidental. What Davis did was very, very risky, which is why you never hear of stuff like this. It doesn't happen. Government officials, especially Black ones, face intense scrutiny in this area. He would have to explain where that extra money came from since it can't be attributed to his salary. At the very least Davis' unexplained income and spending would draw and did draw the suspicion of the government including local law enforcement. In the actual show, his driver was the one caught coming from the projects with a large bag of money. And meeting in public places during the daytime with a known drug dealer is suspicious. Not realistic. No senator would risk being caught associating with men of Stringer's caliber. Mayors, senators, etc. have been taken down for much less: misuse of gift cards, inappropriate travel expenses, and lying on mortgage applications. And they (the govt.) see and catch everything. Why risk being prosecuted for something like this, which is bribery/akin to bribery. Even if he didn't intend to act on it, the govt. doesn't know that! Prosecutors will argue that that was the intent. It's just not realistic and would be very foolish for a politician to do that.
