    That Boeing 777 is a beast of an aircraft and the crew flying this one performed flawlessly!!! That 6-wheel bogie main gear design has a nice redundancy built into it. That touchdown upon landing and rollout demonstrated just how substantial the main landing gear design is on the plane. Cudos to Boeing for "bringing another one home".

    This is the actual pilot-ATC transmission after loosing the tire:
    Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to shake!"
    ATC Buck Murdoch: "She's starting to shake."
    Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to shimmy!"
    ATC Buck Murdoch: "She's starting to shimmy."
    Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to...She's starting.... to"
    ATC Buck Murdoch: "What... what is she starting to do?"
    Co-pilot Elaine Dickinson: "She's starting to shudder!"
    ATC Buck Murdoch: "She's starting to shudder."
    ATC assistant: "How bad is it sir?"
    ATC Buck Murdoch: "It's not good, but at least she isn't starting to crack up!"
    Pilot Ted Striker: "She's starting to crack up!"
    Panic erupts in the ATC tower.

    I didn't even consider the damage from the debris but that really could have killed someone. Not to mention insurance probably doesn't cover the damage to the vehicles

    Those wheels are a lot bigger than they appear, one fell off a plane and landed on a freeway, a woman got out of an old van and put it inside. It was filmed and people could not believe she could manage it.

    Who films a plane taking off from the airport?
    Were they involved with the wheel falling off.

    Delta recently had a nose wheel come off while taxiing in ATL. I never heard how that happened and I'd love to know how both of these happened. I worked in Mx. for 39 years and I don't think I ever heard of a wheel assy just falling off????

    less likely a Boeing design problem but rather a Maintenance problem. No matter what, the maintenance team had the last LOOK/CHECK on the plane prior its departure, and/or someone didn't have all the NUTs tightened down if there was a tire changed earlier. Luckily the driver of that car wasn't nearby when the tire dropped on top of it.

    • @justinglass9340
      @justinglass9340 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      turns out there aren't nuts holding it on. The one large NUT that does hold it on, and is secured by locking hardware is covered with a hubcap that is bolted a safety wired in place. It can't be seen during a walk around.

    "Video shows a United Airlines flight losing one of its tires [sic] shortly after taking off from San Francisco bound for Japan" -- no it doesn't; you crack journalists just can't tell the difference between a tire and a wheel!

    Blow out of cabin door mid-flight, now a falling tire during take-off; events that do not build confidence in Boeing aircraft when the company has lost its lead to Airbus.

    • @justinglass9340
      @justinglass9340 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      they need to do their jobs. Airlines need to stop hiring warm bodies that arent even old enough to buy beer yet. AND there need to be consequences for things like this when they happen. Been an airline mechanic for over 30 years....this is the reality of it.

    These types of failures are happening more often! The maintenance team is not doing their job. The final check should have caught this.

    • @justinglass9340
      @justinglass9340 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "final check" isn't a thing. 75 people could have looked at that and not seen anything. There is ONE big castellated nut that holds that tire on, and it is secured to the axle with 2ea bolts, nuts and washers. THAT is all covered with the hubcap, that is secured with bolts and then safety wired. You CAN'T see the nut holding it on. IF there was an issue, it should have been discovered during the tire change. I have changed hundreds of commercial aircraft tires in my career, and that what we call it, a TIRE change. And no, there isn't an inspector going behind everyone looking at every little thing we do.
