By the thumbnail, I thought it was going to be a 3D model, but when you bumped it on 0:03 I was kinda shocked it was actually real. Impeccable work right there!
They’ve been making those stop-motion SpongeBob specials, and if they brought robo-Krabs into the mix of those, I can imagine them going with the weathered look, too. In fact, your model looks pretty much ready for stop motion. Haha. Cool stuff!
Word of advice, one prop maker to another. If you go for a weathered and chipped look, take some steel wire with some silver rub and buff and use it to make micro scratches on it to make it look like there’s new scratches.
That came out great! They have had some really cool statues, of characters from the show, at the Nickelodeon building over the years as well as custom statues made for movie premiers and special events. I wonder if you could pitch them hiring you to make a larger version of this, or something like it. I used to know Steve (the creator of show), since before he came up with the idea for the show. If he was still with us, I would have definitely sent this video to him. He would have loved it. Keep up the great work!
Ok, first of all, I love nearly everything about this (outside of ai) & you did a phenomenal job with EVERYTHING! The only thing that I would different (outside of ai crab) would be to have the base be painted green to match the Krusty Krab floors. Seriously though, this is amazing!
I guess that’s a fair point (and it may have looked cooler), but most of the episode takes place in the kitchen, one of the only rooms with brown floors. I just went for episode accuracy on this one 🤷🏻♂️
Not gonna lie, I like the weathered look better than if it was a flat splash of color. Makes it feel like he's been developed for a long timne, or as old as the episode itself. Not to mention in "A New Leaf", Mr Krabs throws one of Plankton's traps into a storage closet with all of his other failed Krabby Patty snatching inventions, including this robot, which would certainly have wear over time and being underwater. Oh my gosh, this model poised underwater would be amazing and creepy at the same time, barring some Submechanophobics.
you should add a voiceline to the robot for when you put in a penny to have it say "Self-destruct coin slot has been activated! Ten seconds til detonation!" Like in the original episode :P
Regarding "authentic" painting and weathering. "Imitation Krabs" first aired December 2000, therefore the only canon accurate colour scheme would be _entirely_ chrome, as per Spongebob's dialogue in "Encyclopedia SpongeBobia" - "everything is chrome in the future".
This is really more of a real universe screen accurate version. I like it alot. If my 3D Printer was working and I could do this stuff I would so make it. This looks like a real 25th Anniversary Nickelodeon SpongeBob Squarepants collab. I would so want one.
Ahoy matey, you did an outstanding job at bringing robot Krabs to life. As a fan of the show, he looks like he was pulled straight from the show, I don't see how it could be any better 😊👍 I do a have a request. Can you do robot spongebob? The one where Plankton puts the brain in the robot. Remember, "We shall never deny a guest even the most ridiculous request"
The algorithm took me here thinking you had like 100k subscribers, but come to find out you only have 13k?!? That’s unacceptable! You deserve so much more! This is absolutely incredible! I wish Nickelodeon could give you special permission to show us with the song…darn copyright 😩(I understand why of course, but this would have just been all cool if you could have added it in lol) But either way this is amazing! The weathered look is so well done and just gives so much more life to the design. I also never knew you could use toothpaste to add chipped details. I know artists use a masking liquid but toothpaste is just so much more cost effective lol This is an amazing design and deserves much more views! Very well done and I can tell just how much work and love went into making this! I really hope Nick sees this and sponsors you or something! I’m definitely following and can’t wait to see your next project!!
You should’ve put a tiny plankton fish tank inside of him, also while I like the paint job, you did really well on it since plankton basically just built him in the episode he should be clean, right? Either way it looks really cool!
You gotta make robot SpongeBob with a hyper realistic light-up brain
"Get welded."
-Robot Bob
Oh I might need to make this happen. That’d be awesome actually.
Yes, Sponge Bot next please.
Or get a real one
UP!
Honestly, the fact an eye flickers makes it more accurate to something Plankton would build.
In that case, let’s just say I did it on purpose
I literally just realized the name 'Imitation Krabs' is a reference to imitation crab... like the food. damn i'm dumb. great vid btw
Nah I realized the same thing when I started this project. Went my whole childhood without getting the joke.
Stephen and the OG crew were truly geniuses.
“Meatball, meatball, spaghetti underneath. Ravioli, ravioli, Great Barrier Reef.”
@@kobythetater right on Q
The colour match was great by itself but the weathering brought it into the real world.
I’m glad you agree with my thought process!
"imitation krabs" is the best name for robot mr krabs im so glad it was chosen
The way that feels like an live-action version of Robot Krabs, that looks so cool, 10/10
By the thumbnail, I thought it was going to be a 3D model, but when you bumped it on 0:03 I was kinda shocked it was actually real. Impeccable work right there!
"not too much though, just a widdle" man these dad jokes are killing me 😭
Another banger from Austin
Thank you sir 🫡
How does this not have more views????
Small channel struggles 🤷🏻♂️ Thank you though!
maybe because this video just came out?
the flicker of the eye helps sell the fact that its withered
Oh- Yes, yes. This was absolutely on purpose. Definitely just to add to the effect. Yes.
This is something no one asked for but everyone needed

Awesome advice- I appreciate it!
The extra effort you went through with the sanding and then the weathering and chipping with the paint really made this dude!!! Incredible
As a huge sponge bob fan, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! I really like the weathering. I feel that it makes it look better! You sir have a new subscriber!
That’s cool and I can smell Ultron coming to life
Avengers: Age of Ravioli
@@AustinBradleyyes sir
@@AustinBradley What software did you use to make the STL files?
@ it’s all fusion 360!
Thats SOOOOOO cool!!! I think the weathering came out great. Would love to have a Robokrabs for my flat. xD
I’ve heard that if you have the secret formula, he’ll just show up on your doorstep
@@AustinBradley I am ON IT. One Secret formula coming up
The weathering looks great!
Thanks! I’m surprised it came out this well being my first try. I might wanna excitement with lower levels of weathering though.
I usually stay away from crabs, but you did an excellent job!
Well once you have it, you’ve got it for life.
You NEVER disappoint us!!
Now I want one.
Your comment doesn’t disappoint either- thanks!
Wow its actually accurate. This is amazing!
lookin jacked at 0:36
That’s bc he is
The weathering makes this look SO GOOD!
Holy crap, that’s wonderful!
Cool! Here's a suggestion: Build some metal suits for real crabs!
I love the flickering on the eye lights
This has certainly been the year of the sponge and you've certainly contributed to that with this amazing peice you've made!
OMG THIS IS PEAK!!!
Dude this is really well made, imagine bringing other characters to life like this. I can't imagine someone making Bubble Buddy
Honestly I think the weathering came out nice
Sanding and changing the texture helps it look more like metal
This is criminally underrated for something this cool

I always look forward to your comments, man. I appreciate it! Had a lot of fun with this one.

The amount of references to season 1 and 2 episodes fr gave me so much nostalgia😂
The fact that the sentence "i met them at open sauce" exists so casually now. Is a testament to will's work he has put in.
“You can do anything you want as long as the comments agree with you” 😭💀 too real

Being honest, I first thought that was metal but it was only like that because of your art design

I so wanted him to say the line "ravioli, ravioli, give me the formuoli"
Next you gotta make either a Metal Sonic or a MotoBug badnik from the Sonic games
Not the Krabbers of 24!
This is so cool! Looks like something Nickelodeon would have as a prize on one of their game shows, but better craftsmanship!
Thank you!
Awesome creation but I’m surprised you didn’t create a Plankton to go with robo krabs
Amazing project as always Austin! I'm totally going to use the toothpaste trick on my next project.
Thanks for all your support! 🙏🏻
Adam Savage on his Tested channel has gone over some weathering techniques
Gotta get that formuolli 🔥🔥🔥
You could try making a small version of the Omnidroid from the Incredibles. Maybe use an existing remote control toy as a base. Bb8 perhaps? 🤖
