The video should have had a component researching the wallet/app MetaMask or whatever it was called. Checking for reviews on legitimacy. Haven't heard of it and he could have lost the money in the account.
The 'Fake reviews/Tasks' is a variant of Pig Butchering. Sadly they're definitely on the increase.

Saying "I am your dad" is definitely a type of insult in Chinese
TIL: In Mandarin Chinese: "我是你爸爸！" (Wǒ shì nǐ bàba!) translates to "I am your father!" This phrase can be used to belittle someone or imply they need to be treated like a child.

I think out of most scams, pig butchering is specifically worse, because the scammers are willing to play the long game. These scammers are willing to spend weeks, months, and even years to get people to trust them enough, and make them feel comfortable enough to send them thousands, and even millions of dollars. That’s terrifying to think about.

I felt for one of these scams but instead of yelp it was an App called " Royal Casino " I deposited about $3,000 in total and earned about $7,000 they wanted me to recruit people in which I failed to do so so i told them I was withdrawing my money Good thing i did becouse 1 month later they drained everyone else's accounts and disappeared
I first came across these scams when using dating apps 4 years ago. Was so annoying but I didn't realise back then how deep the rabbit hole went.
It's bad. They get you to invest along side them on a bogus website. They control the website and make it look like you're making a ton of profit. In the end, it's a ploy, and they take as much as you're willing to put in.
Yes, in the West, the Pig Butchering Scam is also very common and very popular amongst women. It is also supported by governments, politicians and justice system... It is known as marriage.

I always get a little bit of a laugh when the scammer says they're sending someone to your house to get you after they're called out. I just want to see someone respond, "Thanks for the warning, I've got just enough time to escape."

Kitboga said "I actually did that stuff. I'll confess to everything. Feel free to send the cops, I'm ready to turn myself in." The scammer got confused and hung up.

I woke up with many missed calls a while back, my mom and grandpa were about to send scammers like $5000 because the scammers told my mom I was in jail for running over someone while I was on my phone. LOL I was asleep the whole time.

Bruhhh my poor grandparents got a call like that saying my dad was in jail, something about drunk driving ? And that was TERRIFYING for them because he's sober now and they had to sit there thinking he'd relapsed 😔 luckily he did not and everything was fine but the way these scammers prey on people, and particularly the elderly is so evil.

Well, I don't feel too bad for them. It's just like a gambling addiction. People lose money because they get greedy themselves, and are looking for an easy payout. The rule of thumb is that nothing good comes easy, and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Even scammers if you watch scambaiting channels a lot, have a hard time getting peanuts themselves. They work so hard to get those gift cards, and yet, they don't get paid that much. The real winners in the scam world are the top bosses and the law enforcement in India and Nigeria that get paid off.

Guardio is acting scammy too. They explain to you that the free tire does not have the data leak protection service, and then proceed to ask you for your personal info "to check if your data has been leaked".
If the service is free, you are the product. They make money selling your data

AFAIK, the IP grabber trick in many cases might not work against these groups. My friend once got into the backend of a scam site like this years ago and had access to both its backend chat API and the database. It turned out most of them were operating in South East Asia, e.g. Myanmar, Thai, Philippines, etc. They used servers in Hong Kong to make the international connections smoother. The scammer was sitting behind a VPN with the exit node in Hong Kong. Not sure if it's also the case here, but operating in Hong Kong would probably be too costly to them.
Plus the police in Hong Kong would probably really arrest them, unlike the corrupt police in those other places.

Pig Butchering isn't really a scam in the West African area, they're pretty much based in countries within the South-East Asian territory.
His job is so vital that the world needs more people like you. I just adore the digital recording that you set up, and I love hearing these con artists squirm and keep performing amazing, kind-hearted things that take guts to accomplish. Entire government division structures should be filled with MYRETRIEVAL, carrying out actions such as these to protect and cater to its own deceived common people. That would be a charge for all of the money spent

Videos like yours and John Oliver helped me realize that I was falling for a pig bothering scam. It hurts to lose my money, but it really drags me down that so many people are being exploited by these scammers. Especially the ones who are being trafficked.

Job scams are very common in the SouthEast Asia, I doubt Hong Kong would be the place for pig butchers.
most of the jobs would offer you high salary to work overseas but instead you would 'transit' in places like Cambodia and that's where they abduct you to forced labor.

Okay, I have a QUESTION to PLEASANT GREEN, why is it that in every video you are using a DIFFERENT online protection company? You keep saying you use this company all the time, but then in the next video you’re using a different online protection company. I don’t think I’ve seen you use the “same company” in two consecutive videos. How many online protection companies can one person use? Here you are using Guardio in other videos you are using Auro’s and in another you are using a different company. So which is it?

My fiance fell for this unfortunately about 2 years ago. We didn't know about pig butchering and although I felt uneasy, because he was seemingly "making money" he continued as he felt like he could just withdraw and stop whenever he wanted to but of course, that didn't happen and he lost about $1000. We learned our lesson the hard (and expensive) way. I think we both thought we couldn't be a scam victim as we had watched your videos before but I guess it goes to show it can happen to anyone. My fiance is still embarrassed about this happening to him but helpful videos like this will raise awareness so hopefully others don't make the same mistake.

Most likely, yes. That's how the scammers gain your trust. And who wants to stop at $100 when you think you can just as easily get a few thousand?
There are lots of videos online of people who lot everything to these scams, many times, the reason they trusted them is because they were able to withdraw the first few investments. So it all depends on how much they think they can get out of you. If you look like a promising mark, they'll let you take $50 if they think they can get 50k from you. Of course, don't go around hoping to scam the scammers. They can always decide you're not worth it and shut down, taking whatever money you put in.
I got one of these texts just a few days ago about reviewing hotels. I did think it was strange to review a hotel without ever staying at it. Thanks for making these videos. I wonder how many people have been saved from scams because of you.

That's what I always said, people know that it's too good to be true but their greed blinds them because they think they're getting an amazing deal or opportunity they can't pass up.
People are looking for ways to make an income! People can be too trusting, too naive or gullible ! Greed does not enter into it!

i won't lie, it's hard finding a remote job these days because of these scams. the amount of times I've accidentally sent my resume to one of these scammers is insane. I've learned to just block whenever a recruiter wants to leapfrog the interview, second interview, etc process. at this point, the biggest red flag is when they act like i'm already hired. i already have 100k of debt from student loans - i don't need more.

A huge area for scam baiting---companies that are match makers finding men foreign brides; 2. dating coaches. One dating coach lists his fee at $10,000 for a one-hour session; another I saw posted this week for $3000 for a 50 minute session. Matchmakers post videos as well on You Tube and charge enormous prices and all of these "services" are virtually unregulated. In contrast, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, counselors, undergo significant graduate education with a firmly embedded ethics requirement as to services that they offer. I can't recommend enough, run from any dating coach that wants to charge you more than what a psychologist/psychiatrist does, and an MD with over 10 years of education/clinical experience, is typically not charging more than $200-$300 an hour, max $400 an hour.

The irony is many of the slaves that are held captive and forced to do these jobs are people that were looking for overseas jobs and are lured there thinking its a legitimate job, but they then take their passports and many times physically abuse them if they object.
This is like me fr, i once feel for this scam and lost considerable amount of money, super sad about it, still remember about it till this day

I always watched videos of scams and scammers getting caught i never took it seriously i never thought scam would ever happen to me. But earlier this week i fell for one and now i learnt my lesson especially all the money i lost. Watch out guys it is a tough world out there.❤❤❤

How did you fall for this exactly, If anyone messages you out of the blue that you don't know, the rule is, block it.
He exposes scams. He plays along to take a deep dive into it to expose details to help us avoid it. Am I the only one who thinks PG doesn’t need to make money that way?
So, in theory... couldn't you repeatedly make new accounts and do the process just before the point where you know they're going to ask for the combined tasks and make all profits?

Lol this happened to me last year, I did these similar 'reviews' of hotels and I actually got paid $20AUD then just cashed out. I then thought I can just create a new account, rinse and repeat this process again and earn another $20 but then nope. I tried to play it off as a 'friend' of mine that was stuck but they explained to me that they keep track of not only IP addresses that sign up for their websites, but also the MAC addresses for the devices used that sign up for their websites as well, to which I was told quote unquote, 'to prevent money laundering'. But hey I was smart enough to walk away with a free $20 pay from them so I can't complain too much.

I find these fake tasks on Facebook. Pretty much the same thing anyone else find them on Facebook or is it just me?
I had one of these contact me before. So I overshared about melodrama and asked for life advice. She awkwardly said surprisingly helpful things and then vanished without trying to scam me further.
So apparently that’s another way to counter them.

I'm just a jerk to almost everyone who texts me. Lone survivor survives alone. Also, scammers are criminals. End of story. They don't deserve sympathy.

Often they are awful people, and what they're doing is wrong obviously, but sometimes they are forced to scam people or they're just trying to feed their family.
I feel kind of bad for scammers because what a miserable life they live, and they're usually stupid because they can't understand that they're hurting another human being and that they're wasting their lives, if they do understand that they probably have a lot of guilt.

What a bizarre description!
It’s a Chinese idiom. Basically it refers to feeding a pig for a long time, to make it fat, before butchering it. Pig butchering scams have a long lead time, weeks or months, before pulling off the scam. The scammer uses the time to build rapport with the victim, so when it’s time for the scam, the victim trusts the scammer and is more likely to commit larger sums of money. Some of these are romance scams but others involve business and investing.

I think the pigs are the scam victims. The scammer “fattens them up” by letting them have some money. If Ben had taken the $100 the first time, he would have been ahead. But instead the victim usually “re-invests” that money to make more. Once the victim has put enough of his own money in, the scammer takes it all and breaks contact. That’s the “butchering.”
Oh, neat! I got one of these texts. I assumed it was a scam, but when I got the "job info", I thought the job was just awful and didn't bother reporting it to the government. I guess I should have!

If she's really in HK I don't think she is forced. Some possibilities I can only speculate. She's a Mainlander working in HK. She's from somewhere else (i.e. the Mainland) using a VPN with a Yuen Long location... or she/he really is just an enterprising HK'er in Yuen Long.

One thing I’ve noticed with scammers is they sleep at a certain time in the east coast it’s 4pm- 5am and every scammer I’ve encountered does it

I fall for every pig butchering scam. I currently have been messing with one for about 2 weeks. Told them I was the fictional character, Jigsaw, using all of his details and character backstory, and they're still talking.
