Also me: crocheting while watching 😅
(Its a bit too warm here to work on the things ive been knitting so i picked up a doily project to do until its a little cooler)

I’ve never been crazy about the long till Car’s done. If I want a cast on that is more stretchy I use the crochet cast on. It has all the qualities of the long tail cast on, but does not require you to estimate an extra length of Yarn needed for the cast on. It simply uses the ball yarn.

When you move to a different hook on the flyer try skipping every other hook and you’ll be able to fit more yarn on the bobbin and go longer between changing hooks. Suppose the hooks are numbered. Use odd numbered hooks as you go one direction on the flyer and even hooks as you come back.

Why would you choose long tail cast on over knitted cast on - to teach newbies? For any project?

There are good arguments for either method when first teaching beginners. I like LTC because you get a nice set of stable stitches to start without having to know how to knit first. Also, LTC is the basis for many other cast ins so it's s good one to get comfortable with early on.

TBH I think it's a terrible cast on to teach newbies. I think it's a cast on better learned later. Cable cast on is so much easier for a beginner to learn and in the olden days, it's what we used to teach beginners. Much more logical

I teach newbies knitted cast on - multiple benefits: teaches knit stitch AND a versatile cast on!
From there, it's an easy move to cable cast on.
So what are the benefits of Chinese waitress CO?
Does anyone know the gal who first shared it?

The Raglan myth surprised me! I taught myself the start of sweater design from an old Patrons sweater book. It was a book that had a bunch of different sweater styles and sizes, including raglan - but they were all in pieces and knit bottom up, because that was The Thing when this book was published! I've never heard anyone define a raglan that way, but I admit, I'd be annoyed if they did! 😂
And thank you for the long-tail cast on tip! Mine does often come out too tight, so the idea of spacing it out with your finger is something I'm definitely going to have to try! (I've also heard the advice of casting on on a slightly bigger needle, but I'm too disorganized to try and fish out Yet Another Needle Set just to cast on! 😅)
Wait, why on earth would you mattress stitch a seam on a slipped-stitch selvedge stitch? Just, uch, no! If it needs a selvedge stitch (some stitch patterns definitely do), I'd much rather do a full stitch each row? So much easier to do a mattress stitch into?

Yeah I was really surprised when I came across that explanation of a raglan sweater. Perhaps the lack of shoulder seams is leading people to think there are no seams?

A cheap yoga mat under your wheel will keep it from moving

Yes. After the video I found a roll of leftover cabinet liners that does the truck. But a yoga Matt would be more attractive on camera.

@@CarrieCraftGeek I use cabinet liner for mine too. It's not fancy looking but totally gets the job done.
