I know its against the rules technically but I think adding lights at the beginning to remove later should be allowed because it makes it easier to see as a youtube viewer
I was thinking the same thing about making the long cabinet having a microwave slot. I also personally think they should have added matching microwaves with some of the kitchen packs.
I really wish there were Left-Handed and Right-Handed handled doors. Flipping them around works fine in The Sims I guess, but the direction the doors open matters to me for some reason.
@@Crose182Yes! The number of times I've passed on a door purely because it would open the wrong way and the outdoor details would be on the inside. It is helpful for windows so I can remember which way to flip them, but it drives me nuts with doors.

It would be cool to make a house following Feng Shui guidelines! I’ve been watching a lot of Dear Modern shorts and it got me thinking about how his thoughts would apply to Sims builds lol
same! Over the years of hearing things, learning things there's two I can't do anymore. No TV's above fireplaces (they're too high and can cause tension in your neck) and no TV's in the bedrooms. I didn't realize they both had to do with TV's, huh... I think it's supposed to be no electronics in bedrooms but I don't think it's very realistic with computers in our day and age lol
Ohhh right this is why I vastly preferred his accidental pastel pop bed placement over his intended one, lol, because the footboard kinda blocks some of the "energy" from the door in a way that the side-on bed would have just felt very exposed without some major help from extra furniture pieces or curtains/room dividers. Pre-Dear Modern me would have called what he ended up with plain old comfy and cozy, Post-Dear Modern me realizes he just accidentally followed some Feng Shui principles by placing it that way, lol
I found out recently that for spandrels if you press alt (or shift, one of the two) it'll only affect the panel you're hovering on! Might be useful if you try this again!!
I actually vastly preferred your accidental pastel pop bed placement over what you intended 😂 thinking of it as an irl room, the footboard provides a bit of a buffer between yourself and the door, whereas had it been sideways across the width of the room, it would have felt kinda exposed. More floor space as you said, but less cozy imo.
Hey james! how about an episode where you ,,fix" your challenges and make them look like what you wanted it to look like? :D just as a buffer idea or maybe to wind down
Loved this challenge. Something about it makes the homes look just a touch more immersive. When you move in a lot of the times with interior decorating for yourself your run into moments where you have "I'm stuck with it" moments. I truly felt at home 😂
I think if he would have placed an arch way in between the tall cabinet in the kitchen and the pillar on the arch, he could have added a room for the dining area.
Here's a challenge for you. Build a doomsday bunker for 8 Sims. Must be completely underground Must be a Tiny home (64 tiles or less) Must have an area for growing food Off the Grid
You can add spandrels in one at a time by holding shift over a wall or fence! I can’t remember if it’s definitely the shift key, but it’s something like that. Also that duo-tone wallpaper isn’t exactly new, it’s just got some new swatches.
Maybe a small table and 2 chairs in front of the window opposite the couch, for dining, since that was the only option. Also, the second you said that spot in the front was going to be a bathroom, I wanted you to make the long skinny section the shower. Then use windows on the left side, and turned that yard area into an outdoor space with with trees and fencing for privacy, so it seems like you are showering outside, and makes the shower seem bigger.
I'd love to see more silly build challenges from you, even if they were done by others before. At least you're always willing to commit to the themes and randomness and don't whine and cheat if something goofy happens that 'ruins' the aesthetic of the build.
It reminds me of real life and the whole once you buy something and build/move it in it stays until its overwhelmingly bad or you have the money and if you're like a new house owner and buy things from different places or buy what you see it dosnt always fit or color match
I kno im late to the party here but for the spandrel into the kitchen you could have placed pillars on either side and then held ALT to place individual spandrel sections 😊
For the spandrels from the living room to the kitchen you could have placed columns first where you wanted the opening and then it would've put the spandrels in between the columns
pls do a build challenge where you can only use the first or last swatch of an object. and if you place that object, you can only change the color to the first and last swatch, not to another object. :D
James, I love how you build 😍 This one was tough 😂 You could have put more clutter in the bedroom in order to not be so dull, despite that you made a great job! I would have made use of the wall that was sticking out but in the end you made a house with few mistakes. Thank you so much 😊👏
And in the end the thing I couldn't live with was the white roof trim showing between the roofs meeting right over the front door. hahaha All else forgiven. Seriously, James is the gem for keeping the ideas rolling that keep me in the game.
I imagine that the pastel pop bed room belonged to the older sister (the kids are two sisters). But she moved out to study at uni and took some of her of her stuff with her, so it's currently a guest room they haven't really settled with yet. The missing dining table... Maybe one of the parents is a wheelchair user so the rest of the family sit with their plates in their laps in the living room.
I think it would be hilarious to see Semaj do this with a random bugdet and size. I can imagine him buying a 12k fridge in the beginning and then struggling to find an outdoor bin in the end lol
Not sure how to phrase it - but you could up the challenge by doing "first sample/first click only". Like once you click on a light, a wallpaper, window, curtains, anything, you have to use it. That way you aren't able to test things out so much!
14:14 did anyone else really strongly flashback to the fallout 4 house you start in or is this way too specific of an experience to be relatable jfkdjfjdjs the style of the door and the position of the couch and window ... familiar
You can use spandrel on particular wall by pressing ALT before you place it 😉 Similarly you can add frieze only on chose side of the built by pressing SHIFT 😉
That was so impressive. I might download this house, especially because it has so little stuff and is still very attractive! Though I may change the roof. This challenge is not kind to roofs.
This gives me single mom of two girls (teen and preteen/child) vibes. And I'm here for it. In there little suburbia neighborhood. They've struggled but now they have made it out on the other side and are living their best single life. Also, they should totally have the ability to slot double ovens into those full wall height cabinets.
