Data repeating the "little trained minions" line back to Q always cracks me up.
probably cracked John De Lancie up as well, if you look, he is stifling a laugh afterwards.
"it's difficult to Work in groups when your omnipotent."
Seems like an oddly 'deep' line there. As well as amusing.
Yeseree, sure is. I can relate to that ( except for the omnipotent part)
*Shark Dentures* "...when your omnipotent."
* When *you're* omnipotent. It's a contraction of "when you are omnipotent."
@@seikibrian8641 Are you from the Continuum by any chance?
@@JWMcLay what do you mean "except for the omnipotent part"? :P
@@fariesz6786 I think its obvious what he meant.
I love the irony of Data teaching Q what it means to be human 🤣🤣
It's not so ironic. What is natural to us has been analyzed from a position of both logic and evidence by Data. There's so much we do and so much about our personalities that are just intuitive. People just aren't equipped to teach things that are intuitive to us.
I know! Data’s never bean a human!
it's often easier to give advice to someone else than to apply it oneself
I can somewhat relate.
I am autistic. I have always struggled to relate to other human beings, intuitively. But I have, over many years, slowly learned how to interact with my fellow man in a healthy, productive and functional manner. To do, by intentional effort, what neurotypical people can by instinct. I have developed these skills through deep thought and careful consideration of human behaviours, societies and cultures. Scrutinizing the mechanics of it all, and teasing out the underlying principles.
And at the risk of sounding arrogant, I feel I have developed, in some ways, a superior grasp of human nature than most. By being forced to learn what others take for granted - by being forced to *think* about what I and others are doing - I believe I have attained a certain level of insight, that eludes many neurotypical people. I somewhat wish I could sit down with the character of Data, and discuss the nature of humanity with him. I feel I could offer him many useful answers, to some very difficult questions.
I'm also a pretentious fucking twat, so take this with a heap of salt.
@@RaynmanPlays like observing monkeys scratching there balls, eating fleas off each others backs and screeching/chest pounding to attract a mate. to him we must seem so feckin dumb.
Section 31 would probably give up a hundred times their yearly budget just for twenty minutes with Q's omniscient mind.
Introducing them to the Borg surely was appreciated
Sorry? Omniscient?
@@animesavedmylife3648
Omniscient is all-knowing, omnipotent is all powerful though the former kinda comes with the latter.
Sorry? budget?
@Pumpkinshire they probably have one. It would be hidden by inflated peices.
"hey look Data likes you"
Data: "let's not go that far"
ikr lol
LETS NOT GET CRAZY!!
Advocate
"Like? No, but I can relate..."
Data's patience with Q throughout this episode is one of the most amusing parts -- in an overall very amusing episode :D
pretty fun watching him give Q a detailed performance evaluation too
Q is amusing
Teaching another how to be human. Blind leading the blind.
I mean, he doesn't really have an emotional core to agitate to begin with so it's not really about being patient, but I get what you are saying.
Q's gift to data shows his development though the series so well
"It's difficult to work in a group when you're omnipotent" should be a motivation poster
Demotivational poster
"It's difficult to work in a group when you're omnipotent"
Actually it's super easy, barely an inconvenience. You just snap your fingers and... voila... a whole group of you, ready to work.
I can imagine Q would even get tired of having to deal with Q.
Wowowowow.
"What did you do to them, Q?"
Such lack of faith, Picard...but deservedly so in this case.
"It's difficult to work in a group when you are omnipotent." - I have been making that argument for a while..
Maybe you should stop given that you're not omnipotent lol
@@sarahberkneractually they’ve been making it on behalf of their omnipotent co-worker.
It is a very tall task to anthromorphize a omnipotent being. Q's struggle is very real, like a bird thats never seen a cage to having to stay in one even 8 hours a day. His powers nearly boundless and virtually free of consequences, now everything that we call like is him constantly stubbing his toe.
Lol Troi giving Data that "you are such a nerd" look
And it was so damn hot. She can glare at me like that at any time
I cannot tell you how much Q’s remark about working in groups resonates with me. As many people out there that can barely have a nerve firing inside their heads surprises me to no end considering what little they use that spark for. But put them together? The amount of evil that can be done when not one person among the horde cares for the outcome is astounding.
Easy to follow the herd.
Second that
Oi... this guy...
@@gezenewskinda hard to do when there isn't a comprehensible thought to be found anywhere in their empty minds
2:41 just look at de Lancie's subtle smile after he pulled off another successful intrigue. What an actor!
This episode has special memories for me. Back when I was 14 and had an Amiga and a sound capture card, I recorded and digitized sound bytes from this specific episode off a VHS tape to upload them to a local BBS. Pretty much the same kind of thing that tjwparso is doing here decades later. The software and device I used was called Perfect Sound, which was the first product that Anthony Wood created back when he was in college. He later went on to create and run the company Roku, a device that I sometimes watch these clips on.
@2:40 Q Gives that look of contentment when he realizes they aren't kicking him off the ship....yet
Counselor Troi took the opportunity to point out to Q that he had advocates aboard the Enterprise, friends. Was she giving him comfort as she would another or was she ensuring if somehow Q got his powers back that he wouldn't view them as something to again torment. Q had a way with beings hostile to him
_"It's difficult to work in a group when you're omnipotent."_
- Well, there is a kernel of truth to that even in more mundane circumstances. If one team member can do everything and knows everything quite well, pettiness could lead to jealousy-based resentments.
How often have I heard "You think you are so much better than I" and "You know-it-all" simply for actually showing expertise in the face of someone with self-worth issues, who only confirms the difference and diminishes themselves through that.
A risk of devoted adherence to truth is that you can become a mirror, where you merely reflect other people's image and then they don't like what they see and project that all onto you.
That's true, if I do something well I want to be the one to do it if other people don't seem to care that it's done correctly. Of course, I'm not good at everything because I'm not omnipotent, and it's important to get feedback from others even if not all of it is constructive.
One doesn’t have to be omnipotent or omniscient. A minimal degree of competence is enough to get one hated.
Data & Q's talk definitely resonates with all the nerdiest nerds. It ironically also is like a shaman or priest talking to a human about god rather than picard
The Enterprise was never a science ship. Had they had a science ship like Intrepid class , they'd have had a secondary deflector array which would have improved their shields as well as envelope the moon better. They would also have had a huge number of probes available of different types. Class 9 probes have warp capability which means they can produce their own warp fields. This scene would have been a very different moon problem.
Yeah, ok there, professor Trek
Ehhhh I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a pure science vessel, the galaxy class ship was designed to be a jack of all trades kind of ship, to show off the best of what star fleet had to offer at the time. She actually did have over 100 different science labs ( per memory alpha) and it actually did have a secondary navigational deflector located underneath the saucer section infront of the captains yacht. The intrepid class was designed to do everything a galaxy class ship could do but in a smaller package, she’s meant for short to medium duration missions a year maybe 2 at the most. The galaxy was designed to go out on long tours for years on end like to original Connie but far better equipped, basically a roaming city in space.
"You must learn to form relationships"
"So hard..."
Q gets me.
I can relate to that
"And of more immediate importance, is your ability to work within *GROUPS* "
Groupwork is nothing more than a way for the laxy and unintelligent to appear equal and relevant by riding the coat tails of their betters.
As a kid, I never really saw what the big deal was about Q. He seemed and SEEMS cool to me👍🏿
“His little trained minions…”
Is there a joke to the fact Q is learning how to be human from a robot that wants to learn what it is.
They are both confronted with more or less the same challenge and Data is the one who has been around longer and mentors the newcomer.
Troi: It appears you have an advocate, Q
Data: I would not go that far, Counselor
One creatures torment is anothers dalight as Someone who dated a domantrix i agree lol
The captain is merely concerned with your ability to successfully interact with his little trained minions. Data and Q is hilarious viewing.
"I am merely spitting straight facts, counselor."
Hehheh
I haven't noticed DeLancie's height. Big guy. Got my attention every time he showed up.
Data: "His little trained minions."
"One world's butcher is another world's hero."

Picard: "Hey Engineering have you fixed this weeks problem yet?"
Geordi: "I'm working on it" off com: I deserve a god damn raise and some R&R with you assholes always breaking shit and wanting the impossible.
A neat detail is LeVar Burton speaking very loudly because the warp core is noisy, even though the set is quiet and the warp core is a sound effect added later.
Great episode! One of the best.
"Its so hard."...I felt that
"You must learn to work in groups."
"I don´t like working in groups, It is har to woek in groups when you are omnipotent."
Ohhhh...I know what will be my excuse next time I need to work in a group !
One creature's torment is another creature's delight. I learned that from Hellraiser.
One creature’s torment is another creature’s beans.
Q was hilarious though Cdr riker found it amusing to remand a to the aliens captain picard even considered it to a star base and cdr data gave q very hospitable treatment while dr crusher gave q a cold dose of meds for back pain
Hmmm, I wonder why Picard isn't at the Port end of the table? Usually whenever there is a scene in the Observation Lounge, it's stages differently.
Counselor Troy's face. 😘
Picard is just push Q onto other human Beans at the space station. Perhaps Q could work in hydroponics growing Beans.
Beans ok i got it now Harhahaa
Q becomes human and hates it, Data's always wished he could be a little more human. Funny how that works.
"It's difficult to work in groups when you're omnipotent." Well, yeah, when one person can literally do anything, having a second person who can literally do anything becomes redundant.
You'd think someone with Omnipotence would try to earn Omniscience while they were at it.
Calamarain, count to 4
Calamarain, then 3 more
We have sustained minor damage to our beans, captain 😊
Haha data shut down troy with her gas bagging about being an advocate
1:29 look closely at Troy's makeup - somebody wasn't paying attention.
Kalamarain, count to four. Kalamarain, then three more...

The joke's right there, even if I _am_ referring to one of DS9's early installment weirdness episodes...
Ethically he was an inferior being. He was improved by his contact with Picard who became his teacher.
Calamarain are the same as the one in the ds9 song ?
I too am not good in groups.
0:09 Does the species enjoy hopscotch?
"It's difficult to work in a group when you're omnipotent."
Was half expecting Data to say something a long the lines; "Then it is most fortunate that is no longer the case."
It kinda feels like Data is chastising Q.
He's incapable of chastising anyone. Their pairing works well because despite Q's omnipotence, he still harbors very base, human-like emotions: arrogance, spite, etc.
Data has none. No emotions. He's got the most unbiased clarity between the two.
Q is interesting as a villain, because while his actions are mischevious, his wotds are hardly ever untrue.
Oh, Q… My mission is to protect you, but that that door through which we evacuate garbage into space does not work properly. I need you to have a look at it. On your own.
"It's difficult to work in groups when you're omnipotent." Remind me, Q, what's the whole premise of the episode again?
My question is this...
How did any species know the moment a Q was cast out qnd how did they know it was the exact Q that ticked them off? Or where to find him? Or get there so fast?
They had to know all this for this episode to be made. That's always the answer when a character in a movie or TV show knows something essential to the plot that it was highly unlikely they had any way of knowing; they HAD to know that or the movie or TV show couldn't have been made.
@@brucea9871 It's just so lazy. I mean starfleet to-date still hasn't reencountered the species and they were a tangible energy....how in the world did they even get to the Enterprise in like a day?
Maybe another somewhat rebellious Q was bored and ssid, "Hey you guys, guess what?"
Calimarane? The name of the game in DS9
What did you do to the frame rate of this? It isn't playing right. It's like every other frame is missing, like 12 fps with extra still frames added to bring it up to speed, It's not my computer or my internet.
creature's.
So I need help. There was an EPS where Q admits that humanity lasts longer then the Q can see into the future during one of Picard's and Q's talks, I can't find it.
t's difficult to Work in groups when your omnipotent." I can relate to that.
Everyone except Data, and a little bit of Picard, is letting their bias towards Q cloud their judgement. They have a mission at hand and also a former member of the Q who's willing to help. They can complete their mission and learn about the Q Continuum, one of their overall and primary mission goals which is to seek out new life. The fact that they didn't see that this whole episode doesn't speak well for the crew IMO.
What epsidoe was this and season
Who tip the Calamarain off?
We get it, folks. This guy likes beans. Must it be mentioned 100 times on each video?
*is “omnipotent”* *doesn’t know how to work well in groups, interact well with humans, etc.* Some good being omnipotent is.
When you were omnipotent you didn't need to work with others. Q never had to to work with others so alien to him.
@@stephencourton3328 Omnipotent literally means they are able to do anything, so, by definition, they should also be able to work well in groups and interact well with humans. Otherwise they are not omnipotent because they lack an ability.
@@JensenPalmer He’s no longer omnipotent in this scene though.
@@JensenPalmer guess you didnt get the subtle humour, he is omnipotent so he doesnt need to "work in a group" when he can do it all himself, so his ego is what prevents him from "working well with other", not his omnipotence.
Don't I know it.

Q has what?
Perigee refers specifically to Earth. The correct word is "periapsis". The perigee is the periapsis of Earth.
My ex-girlfriend can attest to the truth of the title.

The best Q episode. Q learned humility, and it turned out that humanity wasn’t as evolved as they claimed to be, and *everyone* was unkind to Q. Except for Data.
