- At PaleyFest NY on October 9, 2018, David Tennant shares his delight with friend Jodie Whittaker's succession to the iconic role of The Doctor on Doctor Who, also dishing on his lifelong love of the long-running series and the funny tale of finding his stage name.

I don't think anyone's better at answering questions he's been asked a million times before as if it's the first time, very talented actor

He's very very chatty, and i connect with that very much
Perfection. Need I say more. He is a wonderful family man and adores his beautiful wife and children. He is so patient with the interviewers and his fans. He is an intelligent, friendly and lovely actor who has a great sense of humour. All his character portrayals demonstrate his acting ability and more. .
Maybe it is time to tell BAFTA to get off their arses and nominate him for an award.
They definitely broke the mold with David. It has been years since anyone can hold a candle to him as an actor and as person.

I doubt he would say it out loud. He strikes me as the kind of guy who will try to back people up no matter what, a guy who is there to support whenever possible.
Jodie is just.......blugh It's not the fact the doctor is a woman in general it's kind of weird to see the change you know. David was a person who tried to act young and did so in an old body, matt was an old man in a young body showing it a lot and capaldi was just that old man spirit in matt solidified and stern yet the care of david in his heart, they played off of each other. I think this regeneration didn't call for a woman more of someone else middle aged and looks a bit aged as well that could build off of the calm yet calamity storm that was capaldi (in a good way). Jodie is doing terrible as the doctor and the writing is bad. Jodie is like a want to be genderbent weird tom baker, she isn't needed atm

Honestly I feel the biggest flaw with Jodie's runs are two things:
She's been banned from watching or studying the previous Doctor Who episodes.
The Writing is atrociously horrifyingly bad.
If not for those two then she'd probably be a top notch doctor...but right now? No.
@@ArlanKels Doctor Who as always had some episodes where the writing is not good, so that's no surprrise, but I have heard this has been the worst to date (I stopped watching after Capaldi Left).
But WHY ON EARTH would they forbid her from watching old DW episodes? The whole point of DW isthat we have a character that evolves over time and each doctor is a new take on the same base character with some new nuances and a bit of evolution. 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, they all had to deal with the Time war in their own way. Even after The day of the Doctor 12th still had PTSD because even if they changed what happened, he still has the memories of the War itself and what it meant.
That's just so stupid. I feel bad because a Woman Doctor might've actually worked if they had done it correctly (It worked for the Master to some extent, I at least liked it), so I'm really baffled by that decision.

They have a good story structure, or overall idea, but when it comes to executing they fall flat.
Take for instance Demons of P., it deals with one of the companions family history and a mystery. An unknown entity appears near the start along with a dead body, foreshadowing an impending conflict between the Doctor and these aliens.
By the end the aliens have been completely turned into spectators and the Doctor and Companions walk away leaving an innocent man to die "Because they can't change history"...and then promptly attempt to change history two episodes later(By saving an entire village of people).
A lot of inconsistencies and overall really non-threatening bad guys. No tension, no stakes, nothing interesting and the only real bad guy is the human race.
@@ArlanKels I mean sure you can say her being banned is bad but is it truly? I feel like that restriction is supposed to help her solidify her own interpretation of the doctor. Thing is all people who have been the doctor arguably have watched previous doctors and episodes so she should have seen some of the work of others regardless of that restriction. She's doing a david smith impression with her doctor, which is horrendous. Not to say she is a bad actor but she isn't a good one right now I can safely say she's bad so it doesn't give anything justice, her or the stories
This was one of my favorite panels I've attended anywhere. I could listen to David Tennant talk forever. He's just charming and delightful.

For all the man's worth, you gotta give him credit, he has a remarkable taste in footwear.
After watching tons of David's interviews over the years, it really does surprise me that interviewers decide to bring up the same stories over and over again. I mean David's absolutely professional about it, but it seems rather lazy on the interviewer's part, ya know?
What you need to remember is that the interview isn't really for the person being interviewed, it's actually for the person reading or watching the interview. While you're a fan and have seen and read lots of Tennant interviews, you can pretty much guarantee that there's a lot of people in that audience and watching at home who haven't heard answers to these questions before. I'm sure it can be tedious for the person being interviewed to be asked the same or similar questions many times over and Tennant does take it all in his stride and answer like it's the first time he's been asked every time but that's kinda the way it has to be because not everybody will see or hear the same interviews.
What's sort of been cool about the Jodie Whitaker story is that you can see he has progressively gotten better at telling it with practice. haha
@@zanzanzanzan lol that is true about the Jodie story. But, I feel like I see more repeat stories from people interviewing David than I do from a lot of other people? Maybe it's just because he gets interviewed a lot more often than a lot of other actors, perhaps? It still bugs me a bit though lol.
@omgubler ... Actually, I like the fact that they repeat the questions. David is such a great storyteller that I don't mind hearing him talk about the same stories over and over again. :D I suppose the interviewers know that and they don't mind because David Tennant is so good at telling stories. When you meet with your friends, isn't it common to say something like "Do you remember that time we ... ?" or "Cme on, tell us that story about ..." :D I think it's quit common to like hearing the same stories over and over. :)
David Tennant is my favorite actor of all time. My baby Tennant.
You'll have to fight my parents for him. They met him once during a tour of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon while he was in a production there, and he instantly became the adopted son they never had. My brother and I didn't mind... much...

Outstanding social skills. I really hope that he is really like that in everyday's life - nice and approachable. Because of people like him I believe in humanity.

I was 6 when the show came back and I watch it from the beginning of the revival. And the show means so much to me. And Tennant was a huge part of my life growing up as a result. And for his admiration of the show to this day. Is very much appreciated. And Jodie is a fantastic edition to this new era of the show as well as this new era of my life and the world around us going forward. Basically. This show is a bit special for me 😂

I know he did once say that he was having family dinner and got accosted by a fan as they were feeding I think Wilf at the time... he signed the autgraph though... if it had been me I probably told them to get tae france! David Tennant IS BY FAR the best Doctor. I always feel one person is meant to be a particular character. You saw it with David Jason as Del Boy. Trying to have anybody else in that same role feels so wrong, and it would do because nobody else is meant for that role. Also Tennant is in my opinion one of the best actors on the planet, he is technically a genius. If you analyse his performances, you'll know what I mean. I'll never forget him as The Doctor. As John Barrowman said, no one holds a candle to him.
Charlie Arnott David Tennant is definitely my Doctor but even for me, I think of Tom Baker as the quintessential Doctor. I think that just shows the reach of the show that someone like me who didn’t start watch Doctor Who until Eccleston, thinks of a guy as the Doctor who was the Doctor before she was even born.
Charlie's Journey couldn’t have put it better myself ! Couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Del Boy and I find it hard to picture anyone else but David when I think of the Doctor

I don't think that ALL children can't grasp the difference between fantasy and reality. My child is grown now, but they always had a grasp on what actors did when they were just 3 years old. They were very aware that the people on TV were pretending.

To me, Peter Capaldi cemented himself in as being the strongest like "THE" Doctor. However Matt Smith is still my personal favorite Doctor!
You can tell when he gets asked about Jodie’s Doctor he seems uncomfortable in an awkward position, different right after she was announced. Then you get him talking about anything else Doctor Who and he pops up and gets excited. We love you David and thank you for being so professional and love for the show ❤️

David never changed his name legally to Tennant, it was his stage name for the last 15-20 years. He changed it legally to Tennant so that he could continue to use it while working in the US.
You can almost see the gun aiming at David on the corner of the screen :P
