    Let's show more appreciation for Mark! He's been doing mega-incredible.
    I haven't ever played the game myself and watched two groups of people playing it. And for the memory game the manual guy was saying "press the number that was in position you pressed in stage two" and stuff like that - literally reading the directions. Meanwhile Mark PROCESSES all the logic, MEMORIZES all Simon's answer and gives the most straightforward instruction possible. That is super hard to do!
    In the wire sequences too - it looks very easy for Simon - he just gives info and Mark gives "cut or not" back, meanwhile Mark does actually incredible logic on his side. And no failures!

    • @Churahm
      @Churahm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      I agree. That wire sequence thing they said you have to remember the previous colors. Mark did a ridiculously good job behind the scenes on that game and it looked so easy for simon. Too bad we didn't get to actually see his work on screen, but personally I was really impressed.

    • @stephenbeck7222
      @stephenbeck7222 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      I think Mark was writing down the work on the wire sequences and the memory game. At least he should have been. It’s not terribly complicated once you understand the rules but Mark did a good job communicating to Simon.

    • @MisuVir
      @MisuVir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yep, you really need the roles to be distinct. The person handling the bomb should be describing and defusing. The rules person should be recording and decoding.

    • @PhyloGenesis
      @PhyloGenesis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I HAVE beaten it with a friend and we were both quite good and didn't find it terribly difficult (but still lost here and there) since we created strategies to be efficient.
      aaand...
      Mark is AMAZING. He was doing these things almost as fast as we did with experience on his FIRST time seeing it. The complex wires, wire sequences, memory, even password. I never found the maze one hard but lots of people seem to and again Mark did it very well. For some reason even with notes I find memory hard to do fast and Mark was super fast and made it look casual.
      His communication was also excellent during that (which obviously Simon helped with, also having very good communication).
      You're right, he did mega-incredible.

    First of all, I watched about 15 minutes of this live and immediately turned it off and ordered the game for myself. My husband and friend and I have had several entertaining (and stressful, yes, Mark) hours with it already and we have not gotten out of the Moderate section! (I wonder if they had a spike in sales once this stream got going?) After we had done several of the bombs I watched the rest of the stream. Secondly, it was quite interesting (and amusing) to hear how each of you described things. Third, I think that it would be very interesting, after a month or two, to see how the two of you would do if you switched roles. I wonder if Simon would be more stressed than Mark (my experience is that the person defusing the bomb mostly has to observe and be attentive, it is the "expert" role that has the heavy lifting to do mentally). Fourth, I hooted with laughter so many times, either because you are very funny when you are in a more informal setting than a prerecorded video, or because I recognized myself and my husband and friend in your experience. This stream was truly entertaining and highly funny in so many ways. Thank you!

    This was wonderful, and as usual, you did much better than you give yourself credit for! This game is often played with more than one person keeping track of the manual, so that after the defuser gives some information (e.g. "Here are the wires I have"), one person can be looking up the solution to that while the defuser works with someone else on another part of the bomb. This makes it all the more impressive that you've done so well so quickly with just the two of you; I look forward to seeing you play some more when you can!

    I'm looking at the manual. At 23:23, with the word LED in the box, the issue wasn't only that the "What?" had the "?". Mark asked what was in the middle left box, and Simon replied with "Uhhh, uh 'U R'". Mark then read the list of words for "Uhhh" which is what Simon said first. Coincidentally, the "What?" was also wrong for that list - the fifth word was "What" without the "?". But the correct list for "UR" started with "Done" and that is what should have been selected.

      I believe you that done is correct and for anyone curious as to what answer should they have clicked, you give a good explanation, but I don't really think it matters too much, not saying your efforts are in vain just (with respect) that it's probably not that important, hope you still enjoyed the stream though

    Given their inability to remember the name of the "Who's on First" game, I must conclude that 1) they were always too stressed to get the reference or 2) neither of them have seen the Abbott and Costello skit called "Who's on First"
    ...but 2) isn't possible, right? Everyone's seen that, right? (If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend looking it up, it's great fun)

      @pelahnar4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CRASHkennedy2000 That's my assumption as well, which is why I was so surprised that Mark and Simon didn't seem to recognize it. My recommendation to look it up to people who haven't seen it was, in my mind, mostly aimed at people who are young enough that they haven't happened to come across it yet, while guessing most people my age (mid-20s) and older probably already knew it

    • @Varksterable
      @Varksterable 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is one of the greatest skits of all time. But I can completely see how people might not have seen it. Although I'd never guess in a million years that Mark and Simon (especially between them) were on that list.
      Also; good though "Who's on first?" is, it still needs more cowbell.

    • @fruitshuit
      @fruitshuit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess it would be easy not to have seen since Abbott and Costello were an American duo and Britain already has a robust comedy scene that gives American acts less prominence. The sketch is about baseball, too! If the game had been made by Brits the module would have probably been called "Four Candles", after a similar confusing skit.

I expected them to be great at the maze (since Sudoku experience would help so much here) but was shocked by how well they'd manage stuff like the symbols etc. Would definitely be interested in seeing this streamed again, including possibly having Mark be the one playing the game, though I realize there are technical issues with that. Anyways super glad people suggested this be played.
