There was an actual gas station I think in the Midwest or South that had a surplus B17 as the roof of its pumps. There’s pictures of it, crazy to think you could buy a surplus B17 for a couple grand and do what you wanted with it. Pretty wild!
Great video. This is the first of this type I watched to the end. The detail these modelers put into their creations is amazing. I have been a modeler off and on since my early teens but I could never imagine my models with so much detail. Keep up the good work.
I was there on Thursday and boy was it great, it was my first national show, I have to say the biggest things that happened was that I got to meet Andy himself, great guy, plus I was able to speak with the folks at True North Paints, great folks too, those where the best things there, well also talked with the new Squadron owners and they gave me a heads up on there future projects coming soon. Great people attended, also got to mention Gary & Gracie from Hill Country Hobbies was there, they sold the shop to Dave a few years back so they could attend more SCCA Races. Lots of great deals going on can't wait for next year's show!!!
Great video! I appreciate how arduous that was to be careful and smooth and consistent. We got to even see even the background exhibits clearly. I paused and replayed my favorites, especially the modern/sci-fi models. Thanks for this!
THANKS, Andy, for going to all the trouble to let all of us modellers who can't get to those fabulous shows see the great(and sometimes even jaw-dropping) levels of craftsmanship; the obvious investment of many extra hours of work -- and energy - that goes into these Works of ART. These are truly labors of love, and it's really too bad that there's not a professional-grade cameraman, with state-of-the-art video equipment, following you around the hall recording the event(for FREE; may as well wish BIG) for all of us modellers stuck at home in our dungeons. Good job, and Thanks again!
It was my first Nat's and it did not disappoint, so many great models! I will definitely be at Nat's 2024. Andy's new 1/16 M10 was on display, and it is gorgeous ... I preordered that day.
That video was fantastic Andy, great job well done . The quality of the models was amazing, enjoyed it very much ,THANK YOU . will be order the 2 new 1/16 scale tanks .
Great video and fabulous music selection. The image of all the Messerschmitts while listening to Beethoven’s 9th will stay with me forever. Say hi to Matt. (Luka)
Great video.... I had to miss this year(again) and not sure I will make it to Madison next year. I'm quite impressed with the quality of the models, especially the helicopters and the WW I aircraft vignettes... Great builds...
I'm really impressed with such high standard of modelling in almost all scales. As an Italian I'm a bit surprised not to see lmuch of the iconic airplanes like the P-51 and the P-47 but I'm glad to see a lot of lovely 1st WW biplanes. My congratulations to all those modelers and the organisers 👍👍👍👍
I was very fortunate to be able to spend all 4 days at Nationals, I met you and you staff. "So many kits, so little time", all great models in the contest room. I truly hope you and your staff enjoyed San Marcos, may I suggest a visit to San Antonio, just down the road.
I like it when photos are made into dioramas, like the Aachen one based on a well known photo from WW2.I once made a diorama from the Bulge,a well known pic of a knocked out MkIV being passed by US vehicles.
Hi Andy, thank you for putting out such a quality video. I mean, you know you can't take too much time on each entry but your shots are smooth and steady so that we can either slow down the video or even pause it and see what's there. nice camera work. Thanks for taking the time to do this for us knowing we can't be there. Maybe one day we'll have a reunion when the show comes to NJ or NY. I was a customer many years ago when stationed at Luke down the road from you. I left there in 2011 we had good times in your shop. I see a lot of my kits and future builds there on the tables. The O-2 bird dig and the ov-10 bronco together. I have them for a 19th TASS heritage flight. The P-51 red tail from the 302nd FS tuskegee airmen, I have that to go along with the F-16 302nd FS Flagship "By Request II" that was at Luke a few years back. and then there's the 1/32 giants. That A-6 tadpole is a beauty! When I saw the F-4's I thought "oh wow, that's what my display will look like one day". An F-4C from Luke in bicentennial colors, an F-4E from 4th TFW Shady J with the new decals I just bought for my Academy 1/32 kit with the 4 squadron colors on a sash across the spine, and two F-4J bicentennials. But the ones at the show are two rece versions - RF-4B (Testors did a decent bicentennial version of this squadron, it would've been nice to see that version) must be a conversion in this scale. I also have the decals for the 4th FW 75th Anniversary F-15E which will go on my tamiya posed in a steep climb with 5 gbu-31 JDAMS! Photos don't lie.I retired from the 336th FS (yellow tail fins) in 2012 and I saw one of my jets on the table there too. But I can't believe how many 1/48 F-4's and F-14's there were! about 10 each and it wasn't a SIG? They were awesome. Don't even get me started on the rest of the show. I'm not an armor guy like your are, but those guys never cease to amaze me. The weathering and battle worn finish is amazing and they drop it in a scene that is so real as well. RESPECT! Keep up the great work Andy, and may God Bless you and your family. If Jesus doesn't return this year you might actually get to see my models on a table somewhere. Personally, I think He'll be coming back before the year is out. -Get right, or get left!
WOW. WOW. WOW!!!! DAMN! I would hate to be a judge in that contest.. HOLY SMOKES I didnt see a bad model in the entire video. Thank you Andy. This is sooo impressive, I love it. It is so nice to see our hobby/industry is alive and well. The model aircraft with the pilots Bust's at 34:35, WW1. Do you sell the pilot Bust's Andy? I would like to buy one of each please. I'm going to start searching for them. Amazing video Andy, Thank you again. I cant find those WW1 Pilot Bust's anywhere. Is this a new product? Where can I find these?
Great video but would've liked to see more of the automotive entries. Several of our Houston Automotive Modelers Society members were there and entered their models. Two of them were picked by FineScale Modeler magazine to be photographed for their article.
Is this open to the public? And how did you get in there by yourself? For those of you who were interested in the B-17 and gas station. There’s a great article about how he got the plane. And transported it back home. I read it years ago. I would imagine it’s on the internet somewhere. Worth the search. A typical story of a man from that era.
Thanks for an awesome video. I don’t have the skills to build models like that, but would love to have some nice dioramas on my bookshelf. I’m assuming those models aren’t for sale, right? Are there venues or marketplaces where builders sell their dioramas? I live in Florida.
Thanks Andy. I heard a rumor there was a judge manhandling models with out gloves and the entrants getting upset about it as if the judge didn't know what he was doing. Is that true?
Hi Andy would very much like to see the German Flak 88 build but nobody wants to waste their time in building one. I like watching your builds through to the whethering very helpful. John, Australia....
How do you differentiate between outstanding and outstanding? I built many but was never any good. With larger, RC models, I found my place. Recently tried some plastic models again. Still terrible. I like wood and covering.
Super awesome! Cool model show! !!!!
😊I walked around that room for an hour and I didn't see everything. There were real talented builders that submitted their models. Loved it.
Lots of great builds 🏆. The gas station with the B-17 on top was unique. 🏅
There was an actual gas station I think in the Midwest or South that had a surplus B17 as the roof of its pumps. There’s pictures of it, crazy to think you could buy a surplus B17 for a couple grand and do what you wanted with it. Pretty wild!
@@HwyPony That was here in Oregon. The "Lacey Lady" is being restored at the airfield here in Salem.
@@mike-xn1qjthat's good to hear. I knew it was going up for sale a few years ago. Glad the right people got a hold of it.

Such a high standard of modelling skill on display. So many of the bases are ingenious and unique. Respect to all the participants.
Like seriously some of the bases are better than models I've done
I can see these sitting on some desk top. When you walk into the office.
In my mind. My models all looked this good. Especially when I was holding them up and riding my bike. But actually I should have left them in the box.
Thanks for this Andy. You did a fine job, next best thing to being there.
Amazing collection of afantastic variety an breadth of subjects. Thank you for the excellent video, Andy -- no apologies necessary. Thanks!!

Those dinosaurs are amazing! (At around 36:25.)
That was a absolutely outstanding model show, it would have been hard to see everything in the one day, best regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
Wow lots of great builds including the Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant wow now that's a big model

How cool is that, Beethoven's music starts and we immediately see a GermanFokker D.VIII. 😉
Nice video, thanks for sharing ✨👍✨
Great video mate the music well you know
Thanks Sir.
True works of art here.
Great video, one of these days I will compete at Nationals
I like it when photos are made into dioramas, like the Aachen one based on a well known photo from WW2.I once made a diorama from the Bulge,a well known pic of a knocked out MkIV being passed by US vehicles.
It was fun meeting all the people
Lindo demais perfeito 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 parabéns 😍😍😍🇧🇷❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💯
Is for situations like these that the sentence: “What we would do without you?” exists!
Thanks again Andy!

Nice to see a couple of Kotare Spitfires in there. So many amazing models to look at. Great to see that modelling is alive and well in the USA.
Great talent on display
Thanks for the video. I gotta go someday.
WOW. WOW. WOW!!!! DAMN! I would hate to be a judge in that contest.. HOLY SMOKES I didnt see a bad model in the entire video. Thank you Andy. This is sooo impressive, I love it. It is so nice to see our hobby/industry is alive and well.

Amazing video Andy, Thank you again.
I cant find those WW1 Pilot Bust's anywhere. Is this a new product? Where can I find these?
Blows me away that 'Do Not Touch Models' signs are generously posted, if one is old enough to read, they should be old enough to know NOT TO TOUCH.
Ooo good music choice
Nice Raiden love that airplane.
Looking forward to seeing you in Madison WI!
There is a lot of talent on display there
The gas station with the b17 on top was located in Milwauke or. We would drive by it often. It was called the bomber station.
Great video but would've liked to see more of the automotive entries. Several of our Houston Automotive Modelers Society members were there and entered their models. Two of them were picked by FineScale Modeler magazine to be photographed for their article.
That amphibious carrier at 30:08 is awesome.
Love the armored vehicles..
Thanks for the tour Andy! Lot's of great stuff to drool over, and get some inspiration from!
They are all winners
hi Andy
Bellissimo
the b17 bomber on the gas station was a real thing located in Milwaukie, OR
Wow, the "real life gundams" dioramas are brilliant 😮
Love wing nut wings models❤

I Am Not Worthy! But I'm getting there.
Thanks Andy. I heard a rumor there was a judge manhandling models with out gloves and the entrants getting upset about it as if the judge didn't know what he was doing. Is that true?
You’ve got to finish that diorama after seeing those large scale ones at the show.
Does ANYBODY know who or where the Pilot Bust's can be purchased beginning at 34:24? Please, anybody know? They are stunning.
Hi Andy would very much like to see the German Flak 88 build but nobody wants to waste their time in building one. I like watching your builds through to the whethering very helpful. John, Australia....
Howly moly. How many hours of tedious labor were invested in these models ?? Amazing stuff, that needs to be inspected closely to be fully apprecated.
Amazing collection…hardly noticed any Russian modern fighters nor civilian airliners!
It's astonishing that Beethoven composed the 9th so that the musical ascent synchronised with the 1/16 Tiger I's coming into view. Ja!
The diorama of the gas station with the B-17 on it is being installed at the hangar where that B-17 is being restored this weekend 8/19/23.
If you are looking for real spacecraft like Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Saturn5, Shuttle models they start @38:24
Pretty Cool
so eventually models like these will be outside of someone's collection - where can I find them to buy ?
(eBay rarely has such quality)
Thank you Andy for showing us that couldn't go to the event the models. And I DO like classical music. = )
How do you differentiate between outstanding and outstanding? I built many but was never any good. With larger, RC models, I found my place. Recently tried some plastic models again. Still terrible. I like wood and covering.
Hi .Please could you remember to put the subtitles on for us hard of hearing. Thanks.
how do they pack unpack that dioramas? I mean the risk of breaking such fragile things are huge!
Why is it just planes and tanks and military stuff ? It's nice but no regular automobiles ??
How the hell do these modelers transport their models and/or diorama's?
The standard is very high.
