    Some of those models are masterpieces. The Japanese and Asian modeler's have such an attention to detail we can only aspire to. Lets face it they have given us some of the best plastic model kits in the world.

      Especially the painting, in cases outside of Japan , when you show closeups of models, the painting is sometime sloppy and with poor lines. What were these folks thinking when they go to the effort of making a model and paint it in such a lousy way (maybe lack of talent or lack of effort due to concomitant poor personal hygiene-bwaahaahaa!!, so sloppy models too!

      @loki7441 WADDYA MEAN, bro, "some". A L L should be more substantiated. Rem the days of FROG, AURORA,,HELLER,,AIRFIX. Vs. Hasegawa, Tamiya, Trumpet. Rewell and Monogram were already adequate, 4 the most pt.

    What I like is that's it's not a contest but one huge display of everybody's builds. Love the variety!!! Thanks for sharing. I'll be watching

    This is just as much Art as it is model building.

    I love the way the Japanese are so meticulous with their models...This is high art! I particularly like the Medical Frigate from 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Great vid! 👍🏻

    Thanks so much for the slow, meticulous pace of your photography. Really enabled us to see the details in the exhibits. This show is a great retort to those who claim the hobby is dying (though I'll never understand the appeal of Gundams).

    • @GelatinousShark
      @GelatinousShark ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO a big part of Gundam’s popularity is just how low the barrier of entry is. No glue required (some of the ”Entry Grade” kits even go a step further and doesn’t require sprue cutters!), the parts always fit together perfectly, and the parts are already colored which makes painting optional. It’s possible to get a fairly good looking model with only what’s in the box.
      Of course, that also mean that there are some people who never expand their horizons beyond Gundam, and are intimidated by other scale models and their perceived difficulty, which is a shame.

    You know what caught my eye amongst all those vehicles? The french bakery storefronts (well that and the 35Panzer stuff which is totally over the top). Tiny brickwork is an underappreciated skill of Japanese modelers.

    • @iceebearhawaii1735
      @iceebearhawaii1735 ปีที่แล้ว

      How about the large scale inside of the Lunar Module-wow!! Is that a kit? Probably scratch-built! And then the effort in some cases to scratch-build lighting into kits?

    • @PeterFulford
      @PeterFulford ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iceebearhawaii1735 All impressive. But how often do you see people looking at a pile of brick rubble and say "Dang that's some skill there"?

    OK. I can't look anymore!!!! I would have had a tantrum when someone told me I had to leave! The quality of the work is fantastic. The weathering looks great. And the amount of quality dioramas is amazing. Apparently you have to be REALLY good to be in a Japanese model club. Andy, very nice camera work. Looking forward to a video where you recap your incredible trip. (if you haven't already made it). dh

    At about 5.28 there is a François Verlinden diorama (88mm Flak with Jeep) from about 1980 - a piece of modelling history that featured in one of the old Tamiya catalogues!

      I mean, sci-fi is hugely popular in Japan so of course they would have more of a focus on that.
      At least that introduces many younger people to the hobby.

    Just curious, i noticed no females present, were they just not interested or allowed?

    • @randomnickify
      @randomnickify ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually see/hear few females there. I also watched videos from Japanese female craft youtubers that were on that show. As far I understand, females in Japan actually have much bigger choice in modeling/crafting hobby than just "tanks"- loots of figurines, custom-made dolls, intricate dollhouses, jewelery crafting and even female oriented gunpla. They even sell female-oriented "cute" modelling tools. But I saw most of this stuff on Wonderfest, I'm not yet sure if there is a "female oriented" section on this show since I am still in process of binging other videos from this place 😂

      There are plenty of videos in Japanese, which is fine for just looking at the booths and showcased products. Search for 静岡ホビーショー (Shizuoka Hobby Show).
