Oh wow - the perfect song with the perfect teacher to learn the stride technique alongside my regular piano teacher lessons at home. Thanx so much for this great input! :)
@@KentHewittpiano88 I appreciate it very much. I'm playing the piano for three years and now I begin to discover the marvellous world of jazz piano. And your tutorial is awesome!
Even though I’ve played this from your book already, it’s always good to watch you and hear your explanation and go over things again......And this particular tune is what my dad played when he was wooing my mother. He played stride 😀
This is a really cool coincidence: my teacher has had me working on basic stride technique for two months and it is pretty much like what you're showing here. Lately he gave me the choice between "Everything Happens to Me" and "All Of Me", and I picked the first one (I have to say that I've heard and digged Thelonious Monk for the very first time thanks to this tune). This video is a perfect complement as it is addressing "the other choice I had". I love the way you connect those bassline notes to add general movement to the left hand part, I'm definitely giving this a try! Thank you for this lesson.
You "dug" Monk, and I assume, you are still digging Monk. Pity me. I am learning German grammar. However, proper English, especially the verb forms, can be equally as complicated.
great lesson KH! after we nail this arrangement down.....would you consider doing a video on ALL OF ME....with more stylist additions to the song, advanced chords.....soloing, etc....???
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else trying to find out how can i learn to play piano quickly try Dalz Perfect Play Discovery (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.
Kent, this video is just magical! I've been thinking of learning this tune in a stride fashion and your video is just what I need to begin to learn this technique. Thankyou. Would you consider doing a video on accompanying yourself to this tune as a piano/vocal arrangement? Thankyou once again Kent, great video as always.
Thanks for the comment, Dave. Yes , I wanted to have a session with a singer and talk about accompanying. Actually a while back I did sing and play, but it's been a few years and I'm not sure about my singing.
Terrific video with stride instruction... Kent - will you be performing anytime soon at Smokin' w / Chris .. not far from my home..I noticed you were there in 2017 but your site does not have any 2018 performances listed...
Yes I have a very good video here: th-cam.com/video/ZutQYfffq8s/w-d-xo.html and a playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLFuMibnl_h5ZTgWWA7reUvigMFfZJw4qP.html
A smartphone tries to write for you, a computer doesn't: I meant to write: I don't need the sound to enjoy then clips of Aiméé Nolte, which is meant as a compliment!
Kleinequietboy Kleinequietboy you are filled of hate. What is your problem. I following Aimee since very long. I admire her... Your comment is so "metoo-ish" get a life
Ha, you nailed me there, Esther. I said "hopefully", because I can't assume that all people or talent is the same...it may be easy for some and difficult for others. We are all different in our aptitude to learn and play music...carry on....and wishing you much success and happiness with your music.
I put this song into an app called “Piano Marvel” and it helped me to learn it quick. I think it could be a really useful tool for you and your students. I would love to talk to you more about it and show you how it looks in the app if you are interested.
Love how you show how to expand from the simple to more complex yet make it easy to follow, thanks Kent.
Great comment...thanks so much!
