- I have been doing a lot more Wildlife and Bird Photography. Sometimes I found it very hard to find my subject and track it across the sky. It's amazing how long the 300mm is when combined with the MC-20. I noticed an Olympus EE-1 Red dot sight used on EBay. I bought it and am learning how to make the most of it.

Going to get one now I know how good they are, Thanks Micheal
Hi Geoff: I hope you like it too. Mike
You got me thinking shall I or shan't I looks good 👍
Thanks for watching Mike. It works for me so far. Needs to be set up for the distance to the subject appropriately anyway . Mike
Great Video Sir. keep it up💯
Thanks very much for watching. Appreciate your commitments. Our latest video on the Bird Sanctuary at Cape St Mary's is pretty good. You might enjoy it. Mike
@@bellasvistas3463 my pleasure. Sure will go for that video ❤️🌹

This is awesome Mike.
Thanks very much Nancy. We have lots of TH-cam videos you might like this one th-cam.com/video/i-DwK6vA2to/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for sharing! I just recently got a red dot sight as well. However I have a question regarding how to use it to aim though. When you were demonstrating in your video, your eyes were fairly close to the red dot itself. I am wondering if this prevents you from seeing the viewfinder/backscreen at the same time. In this case, how does one monitor the Autofocus then? Much appreciate if you may share your insight!
I just spray and pray letting the autofocus take care of itself. I have the shutter preference turned off so Focus is priority not shutter.
Hope that helps, Mike
Just starting this vid and my mind is blown at your camera mount on your tripod...i want
Hi Douglas: It's a Neewer Gimbal, less than $100.00 It needs to be cleaned and have good silicone grease used. It helps to track birds. Mike
Thanks for the video...good info beautiful photos/videos. I might purchase one...seems the perfect accessory for the 300mm f/4 MC20. I fold the brim back on my boonie hat or push it back.
Thanks, David: it does have to be adjusted for the appropriate distance to the subject, I have found that out. It has been working out for me so far. Mike
I really glad to have come across you. Really like your style and passion for your photography . Starting my own channel.
Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment 🙂. I will be checking out A Touch of Green right now. We had a bit of a setback with a broken window in our Van, we will have new videos again very soon. You might enjoy our video Driving the Dempster, that was fun. Mike
Your photos are top notch to me among the best I have seen on TH-cam. I see why Andrea raves about your Photo graphs
Thanks Murph. I'm having a good time at it anyway. Best Always to you.
I love that image at 2:52!
Hi Roderick: The two geese. I think that was my first shot with the red dot finder.
Interesting. Haven’t needed something like this with my pano 100-400. I suppose it could help with panning
Thanks Ryan: When I am using the 300mm and the MC20 I have 600mm and no zoom out to help with locating the subject that can be fast moving. I feel that I had better success with the Kingfisher and some other fast moving small subjects. Thanks again for watching and especially taking the time to comment. We have lots of wildlife videos on Bellas Vistas. Mike
@@bellasvistas3463 that’s a whole-lotta zoom! I might have to try something like - esp with something as fast as a king fisher! Great stuff, thanks!!
It really worked for me. It also helps with Astro Photography! @@scgb5
Great video, Mike.
Hi Brian: Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment 🙂. It really helps to keep me going. Mike.
I have mounted a small piece of plastic pipe onto my Sony A7iv/200 - 600 combo, It act as an old fashioned iron sight on a rifle. The pipe is about an inch long and has a notch cut out on order to secure it with a tie wrap and I place it top left hand side (looking from viewfinder end). Before shooting I calibrate the pipe sight like you do with Oly EE sight, but it is just a matter of raising or lowering the sight's position, so it is synchronises with the viewfinder. When I find a subject I bring the camera up to my eye, get the subject in that, then turn on the camera and the subject naturally appears in the viewfinder. You have to allow for parallax error, if the target is closer or further than the calibration distance, then I just have the bird/animal a bit higher or lower in the pipe sight. Like your experience with the Oly sight, it has improved my keepers too.
You can see what I have done by following this link, th-cam.com/video/9M3F2oaje0o/w-d-xo.html (my only video) but you will have to wait until the end, as the video is mostly about my DIY rain cover, which I made in response to a comment on another TH-cam video.
Sounds like a plan. I am checking it out now. Thanks for watching and commenting. You might like pur video on Driving the Dempster. Thanks Paul.
Great video. Realy shows the profits of the dot sight. What do you use to record the audio? Those bird sounds are amazing. Grt guido
Thanks Guido: The audio was from Mary's EM1 MK2
@@bellasvistas3463 ow wow I didn't expect it from the camera itself. I tought you used a external mic for that or something.
Do you have to calibrate the sight everytime you put it on the camera?
Most times I put it on I take a few minutes on a tripod to zero it in for the distance I expect to be using. It's a bit of a bother but not all that much. It has a pin registration to the body but it's not perfect. It has enabled me to get Kingfishers in flight that I don't think I could have gotten otherwise. Thanks for watching.
