There's Mods for Dow1 which is still working even on multiplayer I think it's called unification which adds multiple more factions (6+) including tyrannids

Dawn of war 1 and it's expansions are a base building rts game where you capture strategic points to gain resources and have to defend them from your enemy. Buildings include infantry and vehicle production, research buildings, super heavy unit production building, etc. dawn of war 2 while still good was not received as well because it took what was widely regarded as the best rts game of all time and turned it into a pseudo rpg adventure. which sounds bad but play it, it was actually pretty damn good. the campaign plays more like an adventure cause you're just playing 3 hero characters but retribution (it's standalone dlc) let you build infantry units as support in the campaign. Dawn of war 3, it tried to combine the gameplay mechanics of dawn of war 1 and 2 and failed miserably. I can't say it was actually bad in good conscience considering I haven't played it but the overwhelming majority says it's dogshit so I am inclined to believe that.
If you're just now getting into 40k definitely play dawn of war 1 unification mod and dow2 retribution. Also space marine 1, inquisitor martyr, darktide, and chaos gate daemonhunters are freaking solid.
@ unification is a bit much I would suggest just playing the base game then moving onto titanium wars. Then if you want more trying out unification and ultimate apocalypse.
Disagree. I love DOW2, but I ignored 1. Their mistake is to put the same damn name on 3 different games. If you put a number after a name, you're expecting the same game with updates, not a totaly different game! DOW3 is a disaster because they managed to disapoint fan of 1 & 2.
I was a dow1 fan too until DOW2 retribution came,basically the best! It simplifies things without having to wait to build base etc. we have Elite mod dow2 beats dow3,I just wish we’d get more people to come to dow2 elite mod and join or discord community.

I do like the skills & custom drop pods though... even with the banner being a bit overtuned imo... the Hellstorm (i think) drop pod was dope imo, just dropping a pod with 3 or 6 Autocannons was pretty awesome. Also... I'm just saying, AngryMarines are hilarious. Dark Crusade & Soulstorm still are my absolute favourites. I own everything else on steam, but those 2 I had bought physical copies of. You just don't get the same satisfaction playing anything else at a LAN.
Total War: Warhammer 40k will probably arrive in 2026, it's been widely leaked by now. You can already get a little taste for how such a game would work, by playing TW Warhammer 3 (wich is Warhammer Fantasy setting) as Dwarfs or Empire with mods that add way more gunpowder units and tanks, rune golems or other mech like monstrous infantry units.
i would like very much learn and play this game with somebody.... too bad they cut out its life support. some time and some updates couldve bring this game to a greatness... anyway if you still play it let me know i would love to play it with somebody
I clicked this hoping it was a mod that could redeem DoW3, but I was quickly reminded of how disgusting the look, the animations, the physics and the visual effects in this game are. Units didn't clip through eachother even back in 2004, 2 steps back this game. Back to DoW1 mods I go.
It looks and feels like Heroes of the Storm. Same artstyle, same UI. Go and have a look at that old Blizzard nut from 2015 and you'll see it immediately. It's really quite a poor looking game.
Believe it or not, I love this game, and I hated the fact that the community gave the Devs zero chance to fix few things. I still play it sometimes for fun.
WDYM nobody stopped them from fixing things, "Relic" moved on to instead work on CoH and considering how poorly CoH3 went, didn't learn enough from DoW3's failure. Maybe it was their new owner SEGA interfering, or Relic is just cursed to fail with the third game of their franchise. Even Blackbird Interactive, a developer founded by ex-Relic leads flopped hard with Homeworld 3 after 1&2 were GOTY.

It is rather sad that WH40k's imitator starcraft became the gold standard of RTS and its original...is this. This really look like amateur RTS. Like a kid smashing 2 armies of miniatures against each together.

DOW 3 makes sense because at the time DOTA was taking over, and they played it smart and kept with the times I guess but it didn’t work out.
Unfortunately "times" didn't equal to "fanbase". They probably really fucked up during focus testing for DoW3 or ignored those results.

Do yourself a favor and pick up Dawn of War 1 or 2 instead. 1 if you want scale, 2 if you prefer smaller engagement but more detailed unit management.
