  • Based in Dorset in the UK, Monkey World is the largest monkey and ape rescue centre on the planet. For nearly three decades, the team has saved countless primates - across 20 countries - from lives of cruelty, abuse, and neglect. This safe haven is now home to more than 200 monkeys and apes. The dedicated staff never stop in their quest to save animals from being mistreated by owners, ending up in laboratories or being exploited in the entertainment industry.
    One of the park’s most lovable characters, chimpanzee Charlie has to undergo emergency dental surgery, and the damage is worse than expected. Ro-Ro is having trouble feeding her new baby daughter and the team intervenes. Chimp Seamus has failed to make any friends in Hananya's group, so he’s moved back to his old nursery troop.

    Seeing and hearing about where Charli came from was heartbreaking. Humans are not always the most intelligent and many are downright cruel. I am just glad Charli was rescued and given a wonderful new life that he has had for many years now. He is a beautiful boy and he deserves all the happiness and health in the world. I wonder if they can put fake teeth in chimps like adults can have done now. Poor Charli. He must have been in some pain. What a touch and loveable little nut. At least now he is out of pain from having that deep cavity and bone issue.

      Yeah I never thought I’d hear the words chimpanzee and drug addict in the same sentence, it’s so sad. I’m glad he’s safe and happy now!

      Due to illness, I have had to have all my teeth removed over 10 years ago. Dentures are a royal pain and implants are way out of my price range. There's no way to make dentures a chimp could manage. They're intelligent but not that intelligent. You can't even convince them to accept treatment and stitches with much success. Adhesives, nighttime care and cleaning of dentures, sitting in a glass on the the bathroom sink?

      Typically a chimpanzee's metabolism is slower than a human's. Implanting a tooth is a long process. It is also expensive. Since Charlie is a chimpanzee, the restrictions that would be placed on him regarding eating or roughhousing would be unhealthy for him. It takes a long time for the bone to heal strong enough to support a tooth.

    Poor Charlie 😔. He’s had such a hard go at life right from the start & yet he’s still remained so kind and lovable just like they said in the video. He represents all of humans cruelty towards animals period but he hasn’t turned bitter or angry towards humans or his own kind. He’s just a sweet chimp. So glad to have come across these old uploads & having the chance to watch good Old Charlie & Aris ♥️.

    I wonder if captivity is a factor in the the Mom's rejections of the babies. Is the rejection rate higher than in the wild? The primates have been severely traumatized in their pasts so maternal instincts are bound to be effected.
    Of course it is essential for the primates to live at the refuge. They would not survive in the wild. And the program shows much physical and psychological recovery. Wonderful Monkey World staff!

    • @Pbrendp2341
      @Pbrendp2341 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's accurate the captivity does affect the moms rejection of their offspring. If they were in the wild the percentage of abandonment of newborn offspring is very low. It's really sad the way humans treat primates they dont belong as pets. We share 98 percent DNA with orangutans and seeing these pet primate videos on TH-cam is sad. And notice they are all infants no adult pet primates. It's really sad and horrible. These people are wonderful and wish more people could see the amount of care that goes into rehabilitating these traumatized primates.

    Wow, the tooth issue is serious on an animal.. It's serious on a human, but you can pack it with cadaver bone, slightly seal it off with packing, and tell the patient to be careful, don't blow your nose, among other instructions. An animal can't follow your instructions.
