    My final fix was to keep driving it, i had swapped the lifters and cam tensioner and the noise progressively got better. I now have over 250k on the engine and it still runs strong.
    A side note, I switch from castrol syntec 5w40 to rotella sythentic 5w40 and that seemed to help as well.

      Did the noise go away or do you still have it but have just been driving it that way?

      Did you fill them with oil before install or put them in dry

    I had a b5 Manual Passat awm 1.8t that I managed to get to 300k with no engine issues and original turbo. I was the third owner. It’s actually In My profile pic lol. Happy to see another 1.8t still kicking.

    Finally i used something called "engine flush",then i changed oil from castrol magnatec 10w40 to mobil 1 S 10w40 and noise is gone.Engine is more powerfull and there is no noise at all even when cold.

    still sounds like lifter noise, when replacing lifters leave set in a container of oil over night, this will let all air out completely soak the lifters with oil that way they will pressurize alot easier after the install.

    @metallicafn yeah i will probably try something soon but i was told by a few people its the high pressure fuel pump, i did a couple things to diagnose where the sound was coming from and it doesnt sound like its anything major but you really never know, its not really loud but still weird when im not 100% sure what it is. i just changed the oil and used castrol syntec 5w40 and just started driving it so we will see if i notice a change then i might try something

    @metallicafn thats an older one but my 2006 a4 2.0T recommends 5W-40 as the first choice and if you cant get that then use 5w-30 or 0w-30

    @freak777power yeah, they're easier to get on a tow truck because their compact and twice as expensive to fix because you have to import their parts.

    This all started when the cam tensioner failed I am assuming i may have barely tapped a valve.
    compression #'s are good and ticking has gotten a bit better, i've put the original lifters back in and the noise is the same.

    @tandaman538 well mine is a 99 so i guess it changed over time, but hey have u tried using lucas oil stabilizer that stuff usually helps with lifters and noise in general, im currently using 10-40 in my car year round and i dont really have engine noise anymore, im still using royal purple with the knn filter, i tried out castrol and mobil 1 but the power and just the overall responsiveness just wasnt there so i went back to royal purple and im quite satisfied

    Hi all.I ve got the same noise in my engine.Currently running on castrol 10w40.I bought a can of " oil treatment" and it helped for a while.Which means thicker staff.You recommend 5w40-is it thicker than 10w40 ? Thanks

    that is pretty much exactly the noise my audi tt is making. but weird thing is, it wasn't doing it the night before. i got in my car this morning started it and it had a loud ticking noise just like that. I'm a little past due on an oil change, but it has plenty of oil and everything else is good. I was planing on changing the oil this week but it sounds like i have bigger things to worry about. why would my lifters just randomly start making noise?

    I have the exact noise on a 2001 Passat with the 1.8T engine. The noise started after replacing all the valves and lifters. What was your final fix?

    I got also problems with lifters in my old car .I bought a new lifters .
    When you install a new lifters ,should I submarge then in oil over night and then install or just lubricate then and install in motor ?
    Thanks for answer !

      My new lifters came in a container of oil. If yours didn't, I would follow what the service manual says.

  • @szili76
    @szili76 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you pre filled the lifters before you put them in?

    • @audinutt
      @audinutt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course I did, Overnight.. even though they came in oil already as they should.

    Or valve guide damage/fracture......(after reading that your tensioner let go)...........

    In my experience leave it alone thiscars suffer from this lifter noise at start up specially. Like someone mention thicker the oil to 5w 40 recommended anyway. and it will go away. ASE TECH

    Possible oil incompatibility?

  • @seapeddler
    @seapeddler 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Drop in a Ford flathead V8. Then turbocharge it. If the ticking still persists, you have to leave the galaxy. Or, perform a kind deed.

  • @atomikrobot300099
    @atomikrobot300099 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you use thicker oil you will "gum up" your turbocharger (if you have one) and your oil pump intake. Do not do it!

    • @horyzengaming3935
      @horyzengaming3935 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a lie, you can use thicker oils in all engines, that is standard practice due to the climate you are operating your engine in. I race this engines and use a thicker oils and i do not have any of these issues and never have done.

  • @pollo1frito

    Pour a bottle of olive oil into the engine. It won't help the noise but it will help with the motor cholesterol.
