    Dear MrFalconford, thanks for the kind words of appreciation. Change always happens gradually. From the next Academic Session (in August 2011) my EasyCal techniques would be officially taught in the curriculum of certain School Districts in USA. If the results are as expected then other school districts may follow.
    Schools in US have realised the importance of empowering students with strong Mathematical Skills.

    @Jarel8787, I would be glad to help.
    Your Ques is 355 / 9 = ?
    Like I have explained in the easycal video above,
    keep taking the Digit Sum in this pattern
    3(3+5) (3+5+5) (remember to write the last digit sum seperately)
    3 8 ... (13) [Now just ask yourself how many times would 9 go into 13 ].
    Of course just 'once' leaving Remainder 4 )
    So 38 + 1 = 39 ( with remainder 4 )
    Or you can write the Answer as decimal.
    39.4444

    Thank you for teaching me this faster way! I was having a hard time in school because our teacher (principal) is so strict, she only explains it once then no more.
    So so so so so so so thank you glad2teach!👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍

    Dear ColorMeMidori, you have a good observation !! However it is not always that the first digit of the question would be the first digit of your answer as well. There can be a Carry backward digit that can get added to the first answer digit.

    Dear BubbbaJay, this EasyCal technique is based on the interpretation of the ancient Vedic Mathematics from India. Vedic Math dates back to 3000 years. I am not aware if the great Trachtenberg has mentioned the same technique in the book he wrote in prison.
    The modern system of counting we humans use today ( it is called " Decimal Place Value System" ) is based on Base 10 . It was discovered in India ( type " Base 10" in google and read..... ).

    I am in University for Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics, and taking the hardest calculus courses I can. I cannot divide those numbers mentally, hell I don't even know a lot of my multiplication tables, but you don't need to know them to be good at math...
    How good you are at math has absolutely nothing to do with how fast you can mentally calculate arithmetic.
    All the best.

    Good question !! Not a problem if your teacher hates Remainders. You can give her the answer as Decimal. For Example - while dividing by 9 if you get the Remainder 3 then in decimal form ( way a calculator shows the answer ) it would be .3333_ _
    If it is 6 then in the decimal form it would be .6666_ _ . So on

    Dear PetitTabarnak, thanks for the heartfelt appreciation. Division is supposed to be the hardest operation of Mathematics as it is difficult to visiualise all its steps in the mind.
    In the EasyCal Video above I have done Division using simple Addition that too in a linear manner ( thus easy to visualise ). Just practice this technique to perfection.

    I've always been good with math, but thanks to some of your videos, I have found out by myself how to quickly find out how a number is perfectly divisible by 7 without easy ones like 575, 757, or 343, 434. I can do it for any 3 digit number, but it will not work for anything more than 3 digits.
    I'm just happy that numbers stop at 10. If it stopped at 11, I'm sure I would fail a lot. Thanks for the video.

    Chickenpoper, like you said these EasyCal techniques can make 'the hardest things simple'. Let me add here that they can also make 'simplest things simpler'
    Question you have given me belongs to the second category. It is already a simple Algebraic Expression that you need to simplify.
    You must have heard of the idiom "Birds of a feather flock together" . This is all we need to do. Arrange the Like Terms together
    (2x + 5x)+ (3n - 4n) + (-3y + 3y)
    = 7x -1n + 0y
    = 7x - n (Solved)

    • @damianmatma708
      @damianmatma708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have just come up with how to do this in the way presented in this video (better said - similarly to the way presented in this video).
      On the very beginning, let's pre-calculate, what we should get as solution and as the rest:
      2104 ÷ 8 is 263 r 0
      This is how to compute this using the glad2teach's way:
      2104 ÷ 8 gives us the 3-digit number "ABC" (which os called "solution") plus the rest "R".
      "abcd" is our 4-digit number "2104" (so a=2, b=1, c=0, d=4).
      *PART 1*
      Now we compute starting values "A.0", "B.0" and "C.0"
      of our solution's digits "A", "B" and "C".
      We compute "A.0":
      A.0 = a = 2 (first digit of our number "2104")
      A.0 = 2
      We compute "B":
      B.0 = A.0×2 + b = 2×2 + 1 = 4 + 1 = 5
      (we multiply "A" by 2 as every 10 divided by 8 gives us the rest of 2)
      B.0 = 5
      We compute "C.0":
      C.0 = B.0×2 + c = 5×2 + 0 = 10 + 0 = 10
      R.0 = 10
      We compute "R.0":
      R.0 = C.0×2 + d = 10×2 + 4 = 20 + 4 = 24
      R.0 = 24
      We compute ultimate value of our rest "R":
      R.0 ÷ 8 = 24 ÷ 8 = 3 r 0
      C' = floor( 24 ÷ 8 ) = floor( 24 / 8 ) = floor( 3 ) = 3
      (note: *floor function* of given number "x" is a function that gives the integer which is less then equal to "x")
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floor_and_ceiling_functions
      C' = 3
      R = R.0 mod 8 = 24 mod 8 = 0
      (note: *"a mod b" is the number which is the rest of a÷b*)
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modulo_operation
      *R = 0*
      _____
      *PART 2*
      Now we make the calculations by adding from the ending digit to the first digit of our number "abcd" (that is, number "2104"):
      In this way we obtain our ultimate values of the solution's digits "A", "B" and "C".
      We compute ultimate value of "C":
      C.1 = C.0 + C' = 10 + 3 = 13
      C = C.1 mod 10 = 13 mod 10 = 3
      *C = 3*
      We compute ultimate value of "B":
      B' = floor( C.1 ÷ 10 ) = floor( 13 ÷ 10 ) = floor (13/10 ) = floor( 1,3 ) = 1
      B' = 1
      B.1 = B.0 + B' = 5 + 1 = 6
      B = B.1 mod 10 = 6 mod 10 = 6
      *B = 6*
      We compute ultimate value of "A":
      A' = floor( B.1 ÷ 10 ) = floor( 6 ÷ 10 ) = floor (6/10 ) = floor( 0,6 ) = 0
      A' = 0
      A.1 = A.0 + A' = 2 + 0 = 2
      A = A.1 mod 10 = 2 mod 10 = 2
      *A = 2*
      *PART 3*
      So our solution "ABC" and the rest "R" is:
      "ABC" = 263
      "R" = 0
      So
      2104 ÷ 8 is 263 r 0
      as it was pre-calculated on the very beginning.

      @damianmatma708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In similar way, we could do also "÷7" (in this case, we would multiply every digit "a", "b", "c", "d" by 3 (as 10 mod 7 = 3, which means, 10÷7 gives the rest o 3).
      But, technically, it multiplying the digits by 2 (when dividing by 8) or by 3 (when dividing by 7) will give us greater and greater numbers...
      So this way is fast and comfortable only for dividing by 9.
      So the Indian Math Tutors (such like "glad2teach") use other method to divide by 8:
      th-cam.com/video/plTQ80l20Mk/w-d-xo.html
      "Trick 359 - Divide Any Number by 8 Mentally"
      Suresh Aggarwal
      They just divide the number by 2, but three times :)
      How to divide by 7?
      I think, just do this in standard way, that means, calculate this by hand…
      I think, also we could divide by 9 - just we divide given number by 3, but two times.

    Dear hunkyjelly, your Ques: 8681140/9
    As shown in the Easycal Video above, you just need to keep adding Digits in this pattern
    8 (8+6) ( 8+6+8 ) ( 8+6+8+1 ) ...like that... put the last Digit Sum separately
    8 (14) (22) (23) (24) (28) last digit sum is also (28 ). This 28 would get divided by 9 to get 3 (Remainder 1 or .11111 in Decimal )
    Taking Care of Carrys ( Ten's digit of all 2 digit no.s ) & add that 3
    9 6 4 5 7 1 . 111 ( ANSWER )
    Method is easy as we are adding just single digits.

    Let's go through it step by step. Your first digit is 2. Next up is (2+5) = 7. So far we have 27XX. Next up is (7+9) = 16. The one carries backward to our last step of 7, making it 8, and the 6 stays put. Now we have 286X. (16+8) = 24. Just like before, our 2 carries backward, making our 6 into a 8, and the 4 stays put. All together, that's 2884. Now for the remainder term. (24+1) = 25. 25/9 = 2 + 7/9, so our answer is 2886 + 7/9. Does that make sense?

    I did it as initial 3 then 3x3 +5 = 14, 3x14=42, +7 = 49
    49= 7x7 r 0 so 44+7 = 51 r 0.
    So for 221013÷8, initial 2, 2x2+2=6, 2x6+1=13, 13x2=0=26, 26x2+1=53
    and for remainder 53x2+3 = 109, 109 = 13x8+5 so we get lines of working:
    2 2 1 0 1 3
    ---------------
    2 6 3 6 3
    1 2 5
    -------------
    2 7 6 1 3 + 13 r 5 = 27626 r 5
    Much as prefer your approach to 357÷7 I can't see how it scales up to 221013÷8. Please explain.

    Another way to do calculation for this is, when your number (X digit) goes in 2 digits(p.x 15,12,17 etc) do
    /// X-9 = the next digit in line //////
    ,im pretty sure that works (if i understood the reasoning behind this) and this away you'll avoid carrying big numbers in the end to divide by 9

    @alexanderdeg1 Let's call the dividend 'abcde' = 35768 and the quotient 'pqrs'.
    First digit of quotient: p = a = 3.
    Second digit of quotient: q = p + b = 3 + 5 = 8.
    Third digit of quotient: r = q + c = 8 + 7 = 15. Carry 1: q is now 9, r is now 5.
    Fourth digit of quotient: s = 15 + d = 15 + 6 = 21. Carry 2: r is now 7, s is now 1.
    Remainder: 21 + e = 21 + 8 = 29. Dividing this by 9 gives 3 (carry this to s, which is now 4), remainder 2.
    So 35768/9 = pqrs = 3974, remainder 2.
    Study #t=3m07s.

      Repeat the first algarismo.2
      Multiply it by 2. (2 x2 = 4)
      Some neighbor. (4 +1 = 5)
      Multiply by 2 (.5 x2 = 10)
      Some with the next (10 +0 = 10)
      Multiply by 2. (10 x 2 = 20)
      Some with the next and divide by 8 (20 +4 = 24/8 = 3 =

  • @elliottmcguirt544
    @elliottmcguirt544 9 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    Guys it works with all numbers!
    1st: see how close the number is to ten (for example in 2104/8, 8 is 2 less than 10)
    2nd: carry the first number down (2)
    3rd: multiply by the answer to step 1 and add the next # (2 times 2 is 4, plus 1 is 5)
    4th: continue in this sequence (5 times 2 is 10 plus 0 is zero [remember to add the one above the five])
    5th: find the remainder (multiply 10 by 2 and add 4)
    6th: put the remainder off to the side and see how many times 8 can go into it (in this case 24/8 is 3)
    7th: add the 3 above the 0
    8th: add to get the final answer of 263
    *Note if this does not work for you then you are to stupid to figure it out. Please do not post stupid comments because they will just highlight your own stupidity.

    @ glad2teach WHY in the second division problem you called 10+2 when the 1 part of the ten is in the previous column above the six ready to make it a seven yet you use it in with the 0 which has confused the method even further...Please explain.

    257 * 9 = 2313 so when doing 2313 ÷ 9 we'll get 256.… and then what?

    • @ΒαγγέληςΚωστούλας-τ2ν
      @ΒαγγέληςΚωστούλας-τ2ν 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You missed something here. You correctly found 256 adding the numbers as you saw in the video. Just keep going with 6+3, which is 9. Don't write it down, but divide it by 9, as it is 2313/9. 9/9=1. Add this to the last number you found, which is 6. You now have 257.

    @shajjn You have to keep all your digits in your remainder, too. Instead of (4+3), it should be (3+4+1+6+3), which is 17. 17/9 = 1+8/9, so your answer should be 3794+1+8/9 = 3795.8889.

    @MarcAngelo26 I got 23360, are you sure you're doing it right?
    Before the last digit I got 23359 so then only add the 4 to the 9 giving you 14 and that means you add the 1 to the last digit you had, being 9 so that in turn becomes 10 making the 5 a 6. Then you still have 3 left so the answer would be 23360 with 4 to spare (I don't think you can do decimals like this)

    you can easily check if a number is devisible by 3, 6 or 9. Build cross sum of the number, e.g. for 254871 checksum is 27. In this case 254871 is divisable by 3 or 9 with no remainder. 324582 is devisible by 3 or 6 with no remainder and so forth.

    3+5=8
    8+7=15 so you have to put a 1 aside to add later, as you did.
    but then you forgot the previous number was 15 not 5, so you should have:
    15+6=21 so you have to put a 2 aside not a 1 as you did...
    21+8=29 so you put a 2 aside to add later but then the remainder is 9 and 9/9=1 so you have to put aside a 3 instead of a 2 and the remainder is 0, so it goes:
    3851
    +123
    3974
    hope i was helpful, even though 6 months too late..

    4 7 9 8 5 3 divided by 9
    after using glad2teach method , u'll get :
    4 11 20 28 33 36
    by carrying forward , u'll then get
    5 3 3 1 3 36
    ( while carrying forward, when 8 + 3 , eventually u will b getting 11 [a extra 1 for the third number]. )
    thn 36 divded by 9 , u'll get 4.
    Add it up, there is the answer 53317
    ^^ hope tat tis solves your problem....

    I think the hardest is working out square roots (without a calculator) including non square numbers.
    Any method you know that is better than
    A: Trial and error multiplication of numbers near the estimated square root.
    B: Continued Fractions (tedious to multiply out)
    C: Infinite Power Series
