I agree that it reminded me of Criminal! The lyrics in Criminal are about being trapped in a screwed up relationship and loving it, even if you're destroyed in the process, and Guilty is about manipulating and toying and controlling someone, and knowing it's wrong but it's so much fun. To me, they almost feel like the two opposing sides of the same relationship?

You can't really say nothing about Taemin's skills,he's really an ACE. Singing? Amazing. Dancing? Out of this world. Stage presence? Always been there since 2008. Bro is the whole package. Like imagine being one of the top 3 best dancers in the industry and being also THIS good at singing? And the fact that he never stopped improving even when his schedules were packed shows us how much work he put in what he does. I'm very fond of him as an artist,I'll keep supporting him forever I guess,all while trying to not die of heart attack whenever I see one of his comeback or performances☠💎

Taemin was inspired by Hermann Hesse's novel Demian. His own work is to a large extent about himself even when he's addressing his "audience." Thanks for the great reaction. Really enjoyed it.

people don't know that Taemin has A LOT of absolutely BEAUTIFUL ballads and Killing Voice is watched by a lot of people in Korea who aren't necessarily fans of the artists and ballads are widely loved by Korean public, so I think it's because of that why he chose to sing a lot of ballads there and also to show off his vocals (because yeah some people STILL don't know what an amazing singer he is)
btw besides all this the songs he chose are also very VERY dear to him and the fandom and have lots of stories behind them, so I was just crying through the whole thing 🥲
Caitlin, by no means it’s a diss, but you not knowing a lot of Taemin’s songs shows how incredibly vast and diverse his discography is. That people can actually fall in love with him and his music not even realizing how much more he actually has to offer. I absolutely adore his entire discography and once you go through it you discover how Taemin is actually such a ballad person. You can find incredible ballads on each and every album he’s released. Rise is also one of my favorites. You have to watch his live performance from Sirius concert in Japan. It was just breathtaking! Thanks for a great reaction!

Taemin is like a rose with neverending petals, you peel some there are more fragrant bits underneath. GUILTY has so far been analyzed to death but remains inconclusive, and can't blame anyone for that - song meaning lost in translation is the oldest K-pop problem. I could write a thousand words or I could make an explainer video, so I did, subtitled at all, to attempt to show Taemin is not just a legend class performer, but also a gutsy, brilliant, subversive video art genius. Let's do Taemin justice, he tried so hard to say specific things, let's hear him out.
We are all so immensely privileged to get to witness the way Taemin processes his own trauma through art like he does not have to do that but he is so open and generous with himself and his heart and it’s part of what makes him so special

I went to a music bank years ago, Taemin sang Hypnosis and performed Sayonara Hitori. I literally cried. Everyone was crying tbh. I wasn't a fan back then, but I became his fan since that day. The way he performs is incredible.
His voice is getting better and better as time passes by ❤ also his ballad songs are so beautiful, meaningful and heart touching ❤ Rise is a very special one.

Taemin is one of the two artists that make me feel like I'm in a different dimension when I listen to his music. The other one being DPR Ian and guess what! Taemin said that he'd love to collab with Ian and I am manifesting with my entire life for this collab to happen. I would be in my grave
I was thinking a lot about the concept and I think it is about the conflict of living ones truth within institutions, in a broad spectrum, how innocence is stripped away, and how rare is to be free, loved the liberté shirt, and well the whole art direction is stunning, this album is pure gold.

Another MASTERPIECE from Taemin! He’s the best soloist in KPop period!
Taemin is always just pure art. I believe he honestly has a love hate relationship with the industry he's in and how it makes him feel. Losing his bandmate and friend, dealing with hardships in the army, anti fans putting meanings and words in his intentions. Advice was about him seeking his own path, and a lot of Taemin's songs sound so sweet on the outside but actually have dark or melancholic lyrics, that's the 'creepy' you pick up on. I tell newcomers to his songs to expect talent to the most exalted degree and duality like you've never seen.

He said during the press con that 'Guilty' was a contender for the title track during his last comeback but the timing didn't seem right so they went with 'Advice'.
Nonetheless, I'm so happy he brought back this masterpiece.

Oh Caitlin, you were exposed to the absolute amaziness of Taemin's b-sides. I feel like they're focusing on showcasing Taemin's vocals this comeback. He was also in Lee mujin service. I LOVE it bc everyone knows he is a legendary dancer but not everyone KNOWS how good of a singer he is. Rise is BEAUTIFUL. The Korean name of it is Icarus, the lyrics are GORGEOUS and so is the live performance of it, I fully recommend it!
Guilty is the best release of this year for me. And Taemin released a 1:30 minutes trailer with a prequel of the storyline of the mv bc it wouldn't all fit in it and it helps a lot to understand the story he is telling!

I know Taemin gave us a lot of bangers throughout his discography, but I gotta tell ya: Rise is, from the first time I heard it, my FAVORITE song. And I'm not saying "favorite Taemin's song", just... favorite SONG. You should REALLY deep dive into his b-sides, because they are IMMACULATE.
Rise is definitely one of his most epic bsides. And yes, you NEED to get to his discography. The 2 acts of Never Gonna Dance Again are GEMS. Also, I really need to thank you, your reactions make my days way better

Taemin has talked about the literature that inspired this concept: Erotism: Death and Sensuality by Georges Bataille and Demian by Hermann Hesse. The fans are also seeing influences from Lord of the Flies. But the director said that his sole inspiration for the MV was Demian.
I adore the 3/4 time signature! It's a waltz, a cycle he can't get out of. And his vocals are so much more relaxed and natural! From the boy with no lines to this. So proud.

i find myself lucky to be living in the time of Taemin.
I loved this MV and I love Taemin. Guilty is a masterpiece. I agree with you that Taemin's work is usually way deeper than what it initially appears to be. My theory actually is that this was about his time in the military because if you remember there was an article at one point that he need to be moved from one post because he was having such severe anxiety where he was. This whole video showcases the fear, confusion, lack of control, claustrophobic and inner struggle he must have had to endure while in service. I am so glad our baby is back but I am also sad that it hurt him so deeply.

I feel like most of the critiques about this is because it doesn't sound like your typical K-Pop song... That's exactly the point! Taemin is an artist, this whole thing is an art piece, not made to be a typical Tik Tok dance song.

The mood trailer was art and kind of gives a great clue to a story being told. I think the choreo is part of the story, and I try and watch it to see what’s being said through it but I keep getting distracted by how beautiful it looks.

I absolutely love Taemin's gothic/creepy songs, so I was super thrilled that he went in that direction for this comeback! Shadow, Mystery Lover, Sexuality, and Guess Who have a similar vibe from his previous albums. Even if you can't upload any reactions to them (they'd probably get blocked), you absolutely HAVE to check out his Japanese songs/mvs. They're GORGEOUS. Taemin is Art personified.
