I've been thinking of getting one for practical reasons that everybody seems to be missing. 304SS. Cutting SS with an abrasive saw releases hexavalent chromium in the worst way. Tons of airborne sparks with lots of surface area seems like a more probable risk for hex-chrome than TIG or MIG welding. Plus, deburring the tubing with a flap wheel indoors in a vise. -- I always considered proper coolant-bathed cold saws with HSS blades as superior machines, and really they still are. Saw does fine as it is low RPM and the heat generated by the 5K rpm wood saw kills these carbide blades, which is why your blade went bad so quickly. You can buy a rheostat that will cut the RPM down to about 2K, which is high but workable. Work slow, use tube wax blade lube and you'll get a fair amount of life out of these blades with these Evo saws. Rheostats are like $20. Did a bit about ear protection in the video. I do have plugs in they are skin tone so they are hard to see. These blades are designed to cut dry never tried to oil one and see if there is an advantage. Would be an interesting video to see a A/B test on blade life. For my purposes the clean cut saves time and mess.
next thing you know there will be a skillsaw that can cut steel, which would be cool if it could work. I'm not saying it can or can't but I don't know. but if there was one for sale I would buy it because like making long cuts with a grinder cut off wheel is not that easy. I would like to have a steel cutting skillsaw and this chop saw as well.
@@BroncoBrownie wow, they sure are I just googled it. and yeah. thats funny I actually thought I was the first person to think of a steel cutting skillsaw. Either way thanks for the video on the chopsaw, I'm about to buy one soon and it might be the one you show in the video. David thank you for checking out the video I appreciate it. I actually have a quick and fun video on the Fein version of a metal cutting skillsaw. I did it shortly after this video. Check it out I think it easily fills the need you described. 😉
I’ve got the Rage 2 and I got about a year out of the 14” blade with pretty frequent use. The main reason I had to replace it was my fault - I ran it down into the material without letting it get up to speed and it knocked off a few carbide tips. Once you lose a few the blade gets out of balance and the whole thing vibrates. Defiantly pay attention to the instructions! On another note, I’d love to see you do a chip catcher build for this. They fly everywhere in my shop!
Funny you should say that. When I was cleaning up from making the video I was thinking of ways to make a chip catcher for this thing. It does send them! 🤣🙌🏼
I just bought the 15” model I think it’s the s380. I noticed it has a little vibration only when cutting do you think that normal? I double checked everything like the blade position and tightening nothing wrong.
I saddle a lot of 2-3/8” tubing at 32° with a table top bandsaw. It’s never a precise cut because the blade tends to get off course toward the bottom of the cut. The blade starts to walk outward. I’d like to see saddle cuts with this blade.
Nice review. What I like is that they upgraded several features on this saw. I was just going to build my own after watching a DIY video but it's a chicken/egg kinda thing. How do build without the proper tools? Think this will be my first metal working retirement present to get the shop off the ground. 30 years of never being around in the States...never mind...we do what we gotta do. I need to thank Jimbo's Garage as he was using this very saw to build a metal frame for a wooden fence and it's like stop the video, there one of those saw's I want Bla bla bla. Thanks again.
Anytime! Thank you for watching and taking a moment to comment. It’s a pretty awesome saw. I think you’ll be very happy with the money spent when you start using it. 🔥👍🏼🔥
So a year and a half later, how's it doing? And would you still recommend it or has something else better come out? I'm looking for some thing that I can start fabricating go kart & mini bike frames with to sell, thanks!
I’ve used the hell out of it and it’s still going strong. I can highly recommend. It’s absolutely the right tool for the type of work you want to do with it.
@@HouseofChop thank you! I've been watching reviews on it from other sense inwatched your video and it seems impressive. And fast, ive used a Dewalt before and seemed like it took for ever to cut. Thanks again!!
Thank you! They are great saws. Eyes and ears are a must as well as a good shake off before you jump in the car or head back into the house. The chips are like beach sand they end up everywhere. 🤣🙌🏼
It would go clean through. If the blade sees it, it’s getting cut. The trick is not to lay into it with downward pressure and just let it eat at its own pace.
How would you compare this to the miter do they do the same thing if there both the same size with the same blade ? I really like the cuts you can get out of the miter saw especially when cutting 45’s on 20 foot length sticks in a garage it’s not to easy to be moving around your saw and that’s exactly why I like the features on the miter saw but does it cut metal the way the blue one does ?
I agree with everything you have written there. I have the 10” Evolution miter and have used it a whole lot more. With that said it no where near has the power of the saw in this video. When I’m cutting heavier materials, anything 1/8” thick and up I break out this saw and it makes very short work of it. The other place where this machine wins is on larger materials. Over 1” this is far better. At the end of the day they are really different machines for different purposes. For the money having both would not be a bad idea if you are doing a variety of metal work but if I could only have one I’d pick the miter.
@@HouseofChop I’ll probably just make a chop saw station and scratch out the miter saw then I pretty much only do metal work so I guess the blue one would be more ideal For me. Would definitely be a game changer if evolution turned the 14 inch metal saw into a miter saw they would be the first company to do so I guess because I don’t see any other metal chop saws that come as a miter saw

Quick question do you recommend this chopsaw based on noise factor. I know it'll make noise in the shop but I wanted to dial down on the noise tho for my own sanity haha???
I wouldn’t say it’s any louder. My 2¢ about these saws being loud is it seems to be one of these internet truths that just doesn’t hold up in the real world. Anytime I’ve used one it’s never struck me as much louder when compared to other circular style cutting saws and your going to want to have your ears plugged or covered anyway because of the chips. Is it louder than a band saw? Absolutely but compared to its brothers, not so much.
Absolutely, they sell blades for stainless and aluminum if you are doing a whole lot of cutting in those materials but for a quick cut or one here and there the stock blade will get it done.
Let me know how the blades do if you have an opportunity oh, I have the old Milwaukee saw of that style and the blades are super expensive about 400 bucks. So if I can get an evolution blade that will hold up it would be worth it.
I’ve used these blades on my other 10” metal cutter and I can tell you the do quite well and last a very long time. I have to imagine the larger bias would only do better. I’d give it a go. 🔥👍🏼🔥
@@HouseofChop I had a 90 tooth tenaru for almost 10 years and sharpened it and replaced teeth regularly. It was awesome. It all came to an end when I knew kid at the shop decided he was going to chromoly after it started throwing Sparks instead of changing out the blade
Hey man I need to cut two things I need to cut wood for a shed project and I also need to cut a trailer coupler witch is 1/4 thick I'd like to buy a saw that can handle wood and thick hard metal my budget is a big deal so I'd like to know what saw should I buy to cut metal and 2x4s ? I don't mind buying multiple blades and 1 saw I want a saw that will cut the metal perfectly.
The multimaterial saw, might be a better choice for you. Cutting 1/4” steel would be pushing it a bit, but it will definitely get it done. I would absolutely use a dedicated blade for wood and one for steel. The multimaterial blade won’t last long in steel of that thickness. I have the multimaterial 10” Evolution saw as well and have used it on quite a few 1/8” projects. Machine is really good but only thing that the job tightening screw should have square thread instead of present one which gets worn out fast, otherwise machine is A1
The only thing I don't like over the competition is the cheap clamp screw made of soft material. also the clamp head seems to twist when on a 45. still a decent saw though, albeit slightly overpriced, but what isn't.
I'd be more interested in how the blades do after a couple hundred cuts. the saw body is pretty generic. a cheap bandsaw is about the same price and the blades cost about 20 bucks...a bit slower though. I wonder if folks will start putting diablo blades on the evolution saws since they are so much cheaper.
Yes. We have all switched to Diablo blades; better blade at a better price. BTW, tube wax lube extends the life of the blade and I get several hundred cuts out of a blade, Not a pro but cutting, welding, grinding everyday...
nice vid. at 3:00 you responsibly take the time to talk about eye and ear protection, then less than a minute later start cutting without ear protection.
Thank you for watching and taking a moment to comment. I know they are hard to see but there are absolutely plugs in those ears. They are very close to the tone of my skin in color. I won’t run the saw without plugs. 😉

outlaw edge .got one to it looks like awesome bit of kit
You can see it in the video but I can honestly say I think there is a load of bang for the buck there. It will be my go to going forward. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Is it better with cutting oil, for blade durability? How about modeling some hearing protection?
Did a bit about ear protection in the video. I do have plugs in they are skin tone so they are hard to see. These blades are designed to cut dry never tried to oil one and see if there is an advantage. Would be an interesting video to see a A/B test on blade life. For my purposes the clean cut saves time and mess.
Can the fence be rotated 45° both ways for cutting opposite miter angles?
Yo great review! That’s a badass little saw!
Huck Chips
Keep it up brother! 🙏🙏🙏
Huck Chips! A way to live!
Thanks, brother! 🔥👍🏼🔥
Your excitement is exciting! 👍🏻
Thank you Bruce I had a good time with that one. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you’ll consider subscribing 🔥👍🏼🔥
next thing you know there will be a skillsaw that can cut steel, which would be cool if it could work. I'm not saying it can or can't but I don't know. but if there was one for sale I would buy it because like making long cuts with a grinder cut off wheel is not that easy. I would like to have a steel cutting skillsaw and this chop saw as well.
They have been out for a while.... Time to get shopping
@@BroncoBrownie wow, they sure are I just googled it. and yeah. thats funny I actually thought I was the first person to think of a steel cutting skillsaw. Either way thanks for the video on the chopsaw, I'm about to buy one soon and it might be the one you show in the video. Its a little bit more than i want to spend but then again its a nice saw that will cut anything I will ever need. and would be better than buying a crappy one just to buy the good one in th end.
David thank you for checking out the video I appreciate it. I actually have a quick and fun video on the Fein version of a metal cutting skillsaw. I did it shortly after this video. Check it out I think it easily fills the need you described. 😉
Dude love the 14" Saw!! An absolute BEAST!
Weld Scientist Nate this saw does work! Super impressed! 🙌🏼🙇🏻
Thank you for letting me know what I want for Christmas!
You’ll have a very happy new year 🤣🙌🏼
What was the song starting @6:53 ? Great video! Didn't even know these guys existed but i'll be taking a look now!
Excellent Review. Evolution picked the Right Guy !! I want One !! Subscribed...
CruisinKev1 Thank you for the sub and kind words. It’s an amazing saw. 🔥👍🏼🔥
You do know that a good saw shop will replace those teeth and balance it like new for dirt cheap right?
Wonder if this type of blade will work on my Dewalt 14” chop saw?
If it’s a wood saw it will not. Wood saws spin too fast for metal cutting and will exceed the specs of the blade.
@@HouseofChop no mines a Dewalt metal chop saw.. wood is a mitre saw
@@dougm.635 The usually spin a bit too fast as well but check the blade specs and see if you can find one that will work with the saw.
I just bought the 15” model I think it’s the s380. I noticed it has a little vibration only when cutting do you think that normal? I double checked everything like the blade position and tightening nothing wrong.
That don’t seem right to me. Mine runs pretty smooth
Can you put on wood cutting blades and grinding wheels
When cutting flat bar what’s the maximum width it’ll cut?
So a year and a half later, how's it doing? And would you still recommend it or has something else better come out? I'm looking for some
thing that I can start fabricating go kart & mini bike frames with to sell, thanks!
Nice video. I've got one of these as well. I wear ear protection when I'm using it. Thing is loud but wow the cuts are on point.
Thank you! They are great saws. Eyes and ears are a must as well as a good shake off before you jump in the car or head back into the house. The chips are like beach sand they end up everywhere. 🤣🙌🏼
I would like you to cut something about 1 " or more thick
Really good review! Gotta have one after seeing those clean thin cuts with no sign of excessive heat.
Good eye! Yeah it gets it done. Really appreciate the kind words. Hope you’ll consider subscribing 🔥👍🏼🔥
Thanks for the video….. just got this saw….. nice!
Absolutely my pleasure! Congratulations that saw us an animal. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Awesome video. What is the maximum cut diameter of the saw? Thanks
Nathan Sutton Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Jump over to this link and scroll down a bit. They give the max cuts on all the different stocks.

currently a great woodworker and want to buy my own tools for metal working !! i want to master welding
Your wood working knowledge will serve you very well. Many of the skills cross and with metal if you cut something too short you can always weld more on 😁
I highly recommend just getting started. Like anything else there is a bit of a learning curve but after you gain some competency it’s like wielding a super power. I see many great wood and metal projects in your future 🙌🏼

@@HouseofChop oh ok. cool. thanks
Great video Phill! 👊🏼🔥👊🏼
Mike Best Thank you Mike!!! 🙌🏼🙇🏻
Your enthusiasm throughout the entire video was awesome.
Thank you! The stoke was real. That saw is awesome 🔥👍🏼🔥
I wanted to see what this saw could do and it is amazing
It still is running strong today and now they make a miter version. I have an upgrade on my list
You sold me with the first cut but I see Evolution Australia don't sell the S355CPSL only the R355CPS for $509.00 which will do for this old guy.
Excellent! Stoked to read the video got you the info you needed. These saws perform amazingly 🔥👍🏼🔥
Looks like a great saw Chop! Awesome review.
It's pretty sweet Dave. Definitely gets the job done well 🔥👍🏼🔥
Great video Phil! I have an older Evolution Rage chop saw and love it. Might be time for an upgrade
Bobby Sixguns Thank’s Mr. Sixguns 🙌🏼🤣
In all seriousness it’s a rock solid choice. I’m sure if you pulled the trigger on it you’d be plenty happy with the spend. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Nice video! Great shots too. Like the calendar in the background, 3forDale 😉
Justin Voss Thank you Justin. Just trying to catch up to you. 🤣
I should probably pull that calendar down. It’s a 2001 original. It deserves better treatment than that. 😉
Awesome video Chop! I know you’re going to put that saw to work💪
Thanks bro! It's been a great addition to the HoC. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Quick question do you recommend this chopsaw based on noise factor. I know it'll make noise in the shop but I wanted to dial down on the noise tho for my own sanity haha???
Is this louder than an abrasive chop saw when cutting actual material?
I wouldn’t say it’s any louder. My 2¢ about these saws being loud is it seems to be one of these internet truths that just doesn’t hold up in the real world. Anytime I’ve used one it’s never struck me as much louder when compared to other circular style cutting saws and your going to want to have your ears plugged or covered anyway because of the chips. Is it louder than a band saw? Absolutely but compared to its brothers, not so much.
What's the difference between the 280 in the 255 versions?
Awesome video man 👍,it's only fitting the that House of Chop tests out the ultimate chop saw 🙌
Hahahaha! Thank you! Sometimes a Chop’s gotta Chop 🤣🙌🏼
@@HouseofChop 💯👍👍
Will a 2000 watt inverter generator 🏃 it?
Use a jig and cut aluminum at 15 degrees?
Where can you buy it

How well does the blade hold up, I know the rage 10 in blades dont last long for me. I use the diablo blades
Can’t really speak to that yet but it didn’t seem to show any kind of wear yet. I’ve also had really good luck with the Diablo blades on my Rage3.
Nice truck
Thank you!
Will it cut a round full stock?
Absolutely! If the blade sees it, it’s getting cut. Just have to let the blade eat and not force it. 😉🙌🏼
@@HouseofChop Thanks. I hope this is from experience...👍
Is this AC/DC power or ac only??
Great question. AC only
Great video, I'll definitely be planning on getting one of these when I can
Thank you Ryan! When the time comes I highly recommend it. This saw does work 🔥👍🏼🔥
Will this saw work on stainless and brass.
@@HouseofChop have you ever attempted to have them sharpened?
Chris Cruz No, but it is my understanding they are better after you’ve had them sharpened. I have a couple I’ve been holding on to to test the theory.
@@HouseofChop I had a 90 tooth tenaru for almost 10 years and sharpened it and replaced teeth regularly. It was awesome. It all came to an end when I knew kid at the shop decided he was going to chromoly after it started throwing Sparks instead of changing out the blade
Chris Cruz So frustrating. It only takes a few moments of bad judgment or inexperience to make a huge mess.
Is the new 15” EVOSAW380 the replacement for this?
SWEET! 👍🏽🔥💥
Tool Scrounge Indeed! It’s a pretty awesome saw. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Are the cuts perfectly square?
I have the multimaterial 10” Evolution
saw as well and have used it on quite a few 1/8” projects.

i suppose a magnetic base would be nice to catch the chips
I would be that excited if I got that saw for free too.
Who got something for free? Nothing is free my friend.
I bought one.. I like it
Machine is really good but only thing that the job tightening screw should have square thread instead of present one which gets worn out fast, otherwise machine is A1
The only thing I don't like over the competition is the cheap clamp screw made of soft material. also the clamp head seems to twist when on a 45. still a decent saw though, albeit slightly overpriced, but what isn't.
Nice!
Good video...does Evolution send a big box of happy pills with the saw??
Might as well have. Damn thing is awesome.
@@HouseofChop I am having one of them!!
consumer grade chop saw .... industrial grade spec cuts results! TOP!
Hell yeah!!! That’s what I’m trying to tell the people! Huge bang for the buck with this one. 🙌🏼
nice vid. at 3:00 you responsibly take the time to talk about eye and ear protection, then less than a minute later start cutting without ear protection.
Thank you for watching and taking a moment to comment. I know they are hard to see but there are absolutely plugs in those ears. They are very close to the tone of my skin in color. I won’t run the saw without plugs. 😉
