I've been cutting 160x84mm HEM I-Beam with my saw. I take it slowly as it is lying down and therefore having to cut alot of material at one time, but i cuts perfectly everytime!.
I'm using mine to build a tapered screw type log splitter. Although augmented nicely, that's Evolution's stamped steel base model, kinda their middle of the road model. They have another model that hosts a more rigid cast aluminum base but, they all offer stellar operation. Nice job..
I've had mine for six years ..I've gone thru a blade a year (can be sharpened) and although it's their top end model, they've integrated an ethos of reliable design and commercial operation in all models..
FYI you use attachment for cutting square stock on diamond pattern not straight it saves on blade than cutting straight across. which dulls blade faster.
You're absolutely right. However cutting the front edge first is just as effective as using the attachment. Sometimes in my shop I have dozens of cuts to make in a short amount of time and the attachment slows things down. Maybe I will use it more and get used to it who knows... THANKS FOR THE COMMENT SIR!
I just ordered the S380CPS model. Can't wait to use it. One quick question. Didn't your model come with the slip on plate to cut square tube on it's edges instead of laying it flat. With the model I'm getting I thought Evolution recommended it ?
Yeah mine has that too. At first I thought it was for round tube only. But I have discovered that the attachment isn't conducive to repetitive production cutting. So I just roll without it...
I have a couple of suggestions for you: if you are going to use a stop fence when making repeatable cuts I would devise a way that I could index the length and then remove the stop to allow the cut off to not be captured between the the blade and the fixed stop as you have it. This practice could be dangerous as creating a kick back of the cut off. This is particularly dangerous on a table saw and I have many kickbacks from my miter saw with wood a tooth grabs the edge of the cut off. One suggestion to mitigate this could be mount a drawer slide on a piece of angle bracket. When index the Length slide the drawer slide away from the end of the stock being cut it just drops to the table top and it is not trapped between the spinning blade and stop.😁🛫 Oh when you unloosening something you are really tightening it. 🤣 Thanks for the video! This is going to be my next shop toy! 😁🛫
I've since moved my stop to the left of the blade which has the vice clamp between the blade and the stop. MUCH safer and yes, I had a binding issue which made repeatable cuts go slower. SO, simply moving the stop to the left, or vice side, of the blade solved the binding issue and sped up repeatable cuts. If you decide to get this saw, maybe you could tell them you saw my vid...THANKS for watching!!!
@@DerekConwayTX Thank you for the reply, I will pass that along. For me being a hobbyist fabricator this will be a great addition to my other metal cutting tools from a plasma cutter and a portable bandsaw. I have had abrasive cutters in the past. I had a blade separate on me once. The guard captured most of the broken segments.😁🛫
Depends on what you are cutting as well. if you cut 16ga or 14ga, 1 1/2in tubing and I cut 3in angle 3/8 thick, you will obviously get more cuts than me. This evolution blade gave me close to 800 cuts on 2in 14ga steel tube. The diablo blades double that amount no problem.
What is about blade lifetime? In German amazon (I am from Austria) many people wrote critics about the blade... But most of them are related to the stainless steel blade not to the mild steel. I need a saw, actually I want exactly this one, but the thing with the blades let me tend to a band saw (femi)
@@DerekConwayTX thanks, seems it is only available on the US market :( is it really that better then the original blade? How long does the original one lasts?
Im on an apprentice budget 😅 what do you recommend in their line or anyone else to cut through 1,2 thick inch plates? Grinder for me at least is really time consuming and sometimes faulty (I’m sure it’s operator error) budget is 100$ 😅 trying to take my vert welders test. I’ve been recommended skilsaw, circular saw etc. Any suggestions I would appreciate it 💪🏼 also you gonna need the rest of that scrap? 👀 lol thanks man!
Very nice saw. I have their 10 inch multi-material sliding miter saw (orange one, I have a Diablo blade on it now [thanks to your advice], cause I cut flat stock once with the original blade, just kidding) but I love this saw it cuts like butter with very little sparks and cold cut ends! Thanks for the info-mercial! 🤣👍
Hmm. Well the first thing I do is tighten everything up. Then make a couple SLOW easy cuts into some 1/8in angle. Dont overtighten the vice. Other than that, maybe there's a problem with the arbor?
@@rickbokern4179 there's always a chance somethings wrong with it. Have you used other metal chop saws before to compare? Oh also try to screw the saw down, or clamp it down secure to the table...
That adapter is for clamping square tubing on the recommended cut angle too.
I didn't know that about cutting the front edge first on tubing! Great information!
I just want to start passing on what I know...

Prob wont do a follow up but this thing is GREAT. Got a diablo blade in it and had no issues so far...

I bought the Evolution Rage 3 compound sliding saw and love it. I might have to look into that one too.
You won't be disappointed, this thing is solid
Great review. Do you happen to know what the depth of your bench is? Im looking to buy one of these but not sure it will fit on my current work bench!
Well I built this for the saw. Not sure but I think the depth of the bench is 22in
Decent advertisement.
I’m buying one👍🏼
740 does you base flex when cutting?
I haven't noticed anything like that yet...
ideal saw 🤗
Try using the attachment on the fence for cutting angle and square tubing, thats what Evolution advise.
I have the same saw , hell’uv an addition to the workshop ! Cool review DC
Thanks Billy! Yeah I liking it already!
I'm considering picking up one of these or a Milwaukee corded portaband next. idk which would make my life easier.
Hello, in case of a broken vise, where can you buy the spare parts?
I would go directly to www.evolutionpowertools.com
Excellent video and review, straightforward and to the point!
Much appreciated!
Just picked one up. Liked your video. How is it running for you still?
I really like it. Still cuts straight up and down. I dial the fence in from time to time but they make a damn good saw for sure...

Will it cut 6” flat bar?
I haven't tried the 6in flat bar, but I will definitely attempt it now...
Thank you for sharing........good comparison
You'e welcome. Thanks Ryan!
How square the cuts were? I heard the Evolution Power Tools R355CPS cuts are not square due to the thin back plate that twist when tightened.
This one is not thin. Cuts are nice and square, got about 1500 cuts in now and no issues...
Is the base fully cast?
That's what i'm interested about as well...
Not on the l model.

I hope more than 500 cuts.. did that this weekend.

For 2in plate you might need a plasma cutter
did anyone have jepson premium dry cut for compare....???
nice saw! are you satisfied with your dewalt after all that use?
How do I get evolution to send me a saw and some metal?
Go to the website and pick the one you want. They're priced reasonably! You might have to use your own steel though...
Bad ass!!! Thanks for the review
Dude thank you! You would definitely love one of these saws.
Right on, Great review 👍
THANK YOU!!

Didn't expect this one but YES it's very NICE.
The way that square tube was moving around after being cut and not being supported you are asking for trouble.

I did not check the tightness of the fence. Maybe that's it. I know the blade is tight and the vise was good and snug.

I just bought a new blade on Amazon for $62
