I've been watching this guy's videos for years just waiting to see the inevitable head-on collision. I almost saw it today at 2:42. Oh well, I'll watch again tomorrow.
I agree that freaked me out too I hate driving narrow twisting roads like that just cause of that
HAHAHHAHAA
Just had this happen to me starting Dec 27th. . Rats ate all the pipes in the attic. 3/4" and1/2". My plumber fixed all the pipes on New Years eve. New years day another leak, pipe eaten through. I fixed that one with 2 shark bite and a piece of pipe the plumber left.. Disaster. My exterminator came , Wildlife division, had to come and seal up all the vents on the exterior of the house with Galvanized wire mesh. 1/4" opening. They did a great job. They also placed traps in the attic. I also put Rat/Mice poison in the attic. Fingers crossed.
Pex a and b look pretty easy to do. I like soldering and I like copper but of course I don't like the price but when you consider a home with copper plumbing won't have rats chewing it and will last 75 years or more. Invest in copper plumbing and be done with it.
Type L despite it being used for commercial work... there is a reason commercial jobs use type L. It's heavy and lasts forever
Hey Steven! Thanks for the education on the Pex tubing! Getting an education from every video. The guys in the Facilities department at the hospital say hello.
the cat watching you work was pretty funny
That cat had one Job to do, just one job and it failed 😂
The homeowner has to find out how the rodents are getting into the house. This will be a recurring problem until they address this issue.
They can get through a hole the size of a dime!
How do you know if you found all the entrances? I get an occasional mouse in the house in the winter time and they always end up in the kitchen. Then they go in a mouse trap. I can not find where they get in. @@95thousandroses

Steve, there is a one handed ratcheting crimp tool by Apollo at Home Depot, perfect for tight situations
Expansion PEX should not restrict flow. Fittings are same diameter as pipe.
Steve, you could have crimped one side of each of the couplings on the short piece down on the ground. Then you could have pulled one end of the pex below the ceiling and crimped your short piece onto the existing one. That way you would only have to struggle with one joint up in the bay, Not a big fan of that style of pex. Seen alot of those rings fail.
Pex and crimp rings are terrible when you skimp on them. The cheap stuff is cheap for a reason.
Callefi fill valves are absolutely the best fill valves. Set the pressure and they fill. FAST. No levers to pull
Lots of materials used for heating the house plus the risks of valves etc. from failure. Not so sure on that idea...I guess the cold weather folks had it figured out long ago.
PEX A doesn't have those fittings that reduce the ID. PEX B does.
Rat singing to home owner:
Let's talk about Pex baby
Let's talk about you & me...😂
Getting older i find the crimper like you're using to be difficult so i bought the small one handed ratcheting one and what a huge difference
A great video Steve as always! Remain safe and keep the awesome video's coming! 💥💯👌☝️👍🫵
"Roddant vs. Godzilla" is one of my favorite movies.
This aint no spellin’ bee, mama!
@@QuietlyContemplating The guy if far from ignorant. He knows his trade well and makes a living doing it. He’s a one man show who does what he wants when he wants. Sounds like he’s got life by the balls to me.
So who is ignorant?
Steve's always helping the ladies with their leaks! another great video!🐭🐀
That's a slick looking boiler setup, but what happens when the water tank needs replacing?
Evening Steve from here in Scotland love your work and the patter magic stuff m8
That's the first time I've seen Steve work with Pex. It's become very popular because copper is a target for metal scrappers. They can wreck a house for the metal.
Kitty needs to get off the table and get to work 🤣😅😂
Great Video. Thank you for sharing
I bet you it's those Damm squirrels. My neighbor feeds them, and they have chewed the wires on my truck, chewed the fuel lines on my truck. Let's just say I bought some fake snakes and a pellet gun.
yeah, same problem here they destroy trash cans, Christmas lights, hose on my barbeque grill anything they can chew.
@@ranger178 They will destroy your HOME if they can get inside--the little rat bastards!
Are you saying better to go with copper pipe? My neighbor to the west went copper pipe to re-pipe and my neighbor to the north went pvc? pex? what do you say?
Get the newer type of cordless power clamp .... isn't that better option?
Copper all the way 🎆
2:44 he's like f it we going head on with this minivan
Yep
Odd that they used 1/2" pex instead of 3/4 for baseboard heat do you see that alot
Probably cheap customer
Miss Molly took a snow day! 😂😂😂
Next time pre crimp the 2 on the replacement piece 👌🏻👌🏻
Steven, what do you think of pex type A and I hope you don’t leave us hanging on your tractor engine I would like to see it run
Squirrells are a rat with a cute bushy tail they chewed power line to my dad's house, chew my trash cans, Christmas lights, gas line on grill everything they can get to.
That's horrifying. Over ten years ago, our hot water line in the foundation broke. Try as we might, we couldn't get it fixed. Nothing would hold. So, we with it up in the attic with PEX. It's horrifying to think some rodent could give us a real nightmare. They should have their attic and their eves inspected for holes where rodents could get in.
Steve would it hurt anything in this situation to cap the relief while purging to make it easier ? i know that may cause a older relief to start leaking but other then that ?
Hello Steve!
I know they chew on, Romex white wires , NM but not piping ?
In New York City, we are not allowed to use pvc or pex in a majority of buildings/dwellings because of the rodent problem. Copper for water, cast iron for drains only.
@@robertlucas8104 Yeah just found out, Rats are chewing the Sch 40 waste lines, in alot of city's.
Uncle gus's mouse repellent that stuff is worth its weight in gold. I put it in a meat syringe and inject it in wall ceilings were ever.
Hey Steve they make battery powered pex crimpers that would of made that easy in a tight spot like that just saying lol
Yes!! Ryobi P660 pinch band crimp tool . I do RV plumbing and have my eye on this tool. I'd prefer Milwaukee but they don't make a pinch clamp tool yet. Perfect for tight areas where manual tool won't fit.
Simple solution - Get rid of the rodents and replace the damaged PEX section. Check your house wiring too - They like to chew electrical insulation.
Sure, blame the cat!!! 🤣😂
“Eggs from hell here” 😂
Nice... I freaking knew this would be a thing .... pex over copper huh? OK we will see
Is that pipe on an exterior wall? Should be insulated
another great reason not to use pex I will stick with copper.
I heard for heating it really should be the tubing with a metal layer to prevent air from getting through the plastic and corroding system.
I've used tile nippers to do pex clamps
steve with the antique pex crimper
In floor heating is nice, but when it finally springs a leak all hell breaks loose.
I put pex in my house but I used the copper rings to join it together
Needs a new cat and 5 or 6 rolls of 'Flex Tape'....
I wonder how much electricity is being used by that boiler system.
Wrong pex for heating, homeowner is going to have another leak
Hello Steve
Yeehaw mama!!
🤣Looks like Stuart Little had the munchies.
Good evening Steve, pex has a proper use and application. The damage is done. This is completely insurance job. All of that pex has to be replaced. The major flood will soon be. Hopefully you will get the job, to replace all of it, Joe Capo
I've had this repair the only solution is find the rodent and vacate it I went to the same house probably 6 times until the home owner finally took my advice it could get costly at 250$ a trip
Best youtuber with the best angles. Still have no idea how you manage to setup the camera to get these shots
I agree - for an "old schooler" he does a great job.
That orange pipe looks like kitan plumbing prefer wirsbo pipe
They better find the hole the rodent used to get in or this is going to be a reoccurring problem. Cats don't go into cellings, it's in the contract! 😅
Howdy Steve and Molly
union cat on coffee break😂
❤😂 So much air in the systems 😢.
Why would you not assemble the short piece on the floor with 2 clamps , then the 3rd, drop the tube out in the open and attach the short piece. Then only one clamp to do in the ceiling. Rookie apprentice day 1 stuff. Lol. 😊
Steve upgrade them tools that will make the job easier
I'd bet red Squirrel the are destructive critters
Steve is ripping and tearing Momma!!
That Pex needs some Flomax mama!
Honda invented rat proof electrical tape with pepper spray in it. They should do the same thing for pex.
Yes, I bet the rodent was a squirrel that got in thru a hole somewhere. The chew marks look a lot bigger then what a mouse would leave. But just in case it is mice, put a bunch of baited mouse traps up there.🐹This is one very good reason not to use Pex lines.
They should have used Pex A with larger inner diameter.
SHES A LEAKA
Cat is retired
Entirely possible! 😊
Rat gnawed a pinhole in my pex over living room. FREAKOUT.
BTW it's 1/2" and delivers plenty of water. But not heating line, potable only.
Why would you fight to make all four connections above the ceiling when you only had to make one? Painful to watch.
That waskely wabbit thought that pex was a carrot. 🐇 🥕
Get a Wiszbo or a Rehau setup.
they are after the salt on the tubing from the hands of the installer. installers should wear gloves.
Another reason why I’d never use plastic piping ..
Better get pest control out there before they chew anything else
i would never use that shite in my home id even change it if it was rented tbh
Pex sux
People who live in campers do all kinds of stuff to keep the rats from chewing on the wires.
I use the brass. I have to push them on. I get them at home Depot. Not loose and barbed. Wow got to be the cheapest PEX I ever seen. You just dropped them in.
Steve get yourself a ratchet style crimp tool . You killing your self with the hedge clippers style crimp tool
Rodent isn't going to gnaw thru copper
Valentime’s Day.
I think one way to prevent the rodents from chewing the sh$t pex pipe is to completely cover it with a foam insulation. No wonder pex is cheap - you get waht you pay for .
She needs my baby fur boy, he’s 5 for 5 this season already. Also she needs to cover that pex with something before covering back up.
Why not use pen A fittings are the same size
you have to use the same kind as what is there A or B
Steve, spray a little WD-40 on that pex tool. She's lookin a little rusty n crusty like those pipes
The rats cant eat copper, so much for saving money. Backward step and all that.
This is where pex A would have been ideal
Rich people houses having rodents. Who knew? :)
This is why we can’t use PEX, PVC, and Romex in NYC. Rodents here will have a field day chewing through that stuff. (PEX is allowed for heating, PVC and Romex is allowed in 1-2 family homes)
Yeah, rodents love soft material.
An old cemetery I used to walk in had lead sheets inbetween the big stones, squirrels would chew it and I could see the fresh shiny marks 😂
Even romex isn’t allowed?! What do you have to do instead?
@@evergreen4034 MC or BX cable.
The old Pex too small story
I only have one circular pump,I'm jealous, not😅
you struggle , cause you want to, there so many modern tools to make your life easier
Rodent wouldn't be chewing on copper pipes. PEX is a great and cheaper alternative......until it's not.
Why would they have run PEX beside Romex? Great idea.
Yep, rodents love plastic and candle wax
Why do they like candle wax?
@@tedbell4416 I have no idea, but I had an infestation of mice in my basement a few years back, a small hole in the foundation I didn't notice. I had a box of various candles. The mice got in and ate all the candles. Box was full of mouse crap and shredded candle wax
