    ...and it delivers a balance current of 1.6A (same as the D6 Pro). Just as a reference the new and much praised ToolkitRC Q6AC has half of that. That means when the first cell hits the max voltage, the battery charges at 0.8A...

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True but these chargers also balance while they charge so you usually don't have to wait very long for it to finish balancing. If you're having to wait a long time for your batteries to balance those are good chance you've got bad cells in your batteries.

I could of got the Hota D6 pro but it was only 200w-650w, then the new Hota S6 400w 650w suddenly appeared. I jumped on the S6 immediately + it was on offer for £124 instead of £145, been using the S6 now for a couple of months & love it.

    What is the best charger you recommend today?
    I just ordered 2 SMC 11300 mAh batteries.
    Danny from SMC recommend ISDT K4 because I can charge the 1300 at 12 amps per channel and they sell connectors for Traxxas connectors for that charger.
    Let me know if you know of a better charger. Thanks. There are so many.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The k-4 is a good charger but unless you're wanting to charge four batteries at once it really doesn't have any advantage over the s6. They both do 400 watts total so if you're only charging two batteries you're going to be limited to 200 Watts per channel either way. The s6 will do 15 amps per channel so it's similar in that respect.
      Honestly I still think the s6 is the best option for the money as long as you're okay with just two channels.

  • @simonanderson3961
    @simonanderson3961 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How does it balance? My current charger just overcharges each cell a little bit (.02v or so) and then drains the ones that are too high at about .2A... Takes forever! And if still usually leaves the last cell about .02v away from the rest... I'm up to my third battery in 9 months as it seems the lowest cell just gets worse and worse... (always cell 1 on gens ace 6800) and eventually starts going below 3v after a run :/ thinking my charger is rubbish. I'm thinking a good charger should be able to balance the last little bit of voltage by just supplying current through the balance lead direct to the one cell that needs it (like 1A or something at least)

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest with you I haven't really paid that close of attention to how it balances but I've never noticed what you're talking about with your charger.

    Which lipo batteries can support quicker charging (3C+) SAFELY ?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know SMC lipos support high charge rates. I think varies battery typed the battery type. To be honest I'm not really sure about any other brands because I don't usually charge fast so it's not something I've paid a lot of attention to.
      Probably any of the higher-end brands will support faster charging.
      Thanks for watching and if you aren't already subscribed a sub is appreciated:)

  • @whisps1
    @whisps1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you charge at a 1c rate does the higher wattage mean that it will charge a battery faster than a lower wattage charger at 1c?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. The output to the battery is calculated by multiplying the voltage by the current so since the voltage can't be changed you change the charge rate with the amps set. If you're charging at one C then that amps setting isn't changing regardless of what charger you're using. The only exception to this would be if the charger you have simply can't output enough current to reach 1C. This is often the case with larger batteries and cheaper chargers.

    What the heck to people use to charge larger 6S 14Ah-22Ah LiPo batteries? I don't want a tiny little 100-200w travel charger, I need one for my home to charge two 6S ride on toy car batteries... Are there literally NO good AC LiPo battery chargers available? Is my only option one of these DC chargers and a 24v Server Power Supply? Crazy...

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well most people aren't charging batteries that large. As far as I know if you want to do more than 200 watts per channel you're going to have to step up to something that is DC only with a power supply. This is probably because to go much larger than that and still have the AC supply inside it's going to get pretty big. Thanks for watching if you aren't already subscribed a sub is appreciated :-)

      I didn't notice any speed difference in the interface between the d6 and the S6. A auto sets the lipo cell count but it does not automatically bring up the channel when you plug our lipo in. Not sure how much faith I would put in the computer software. I'm not familiar with sky RC's computer software specifically but I know with other Chinese charger manufacturers it's been really hit or miss.
      Overall it looks like a very cool charger and if you're going to be doing some really serious stuff on DC might be worth it but in general I'm not sure it's worth the $100 premium over the S6 for most people.

    • @DoRC

    • @DoRC

      Theoretically when you're parallel charging you can charge an unlimited number of batteries up to the power of the charger and the connections you can make. It's all seen as a single battery by the charger. If you meant series charging then you would only be able to use six total cells in series. • @DoRC

      I saw the imar's charger. It looks pretty good but it's only 200 Watts on AC total so for me there's really no comparison. 200 Watts total is okay but it's also pretty limiting especially if you're charging larger batteries.
      I also don't recognize the design so I'm not sure who their OEM is. That makes me a little nervous because I don't know if the charger is coming from a trustworthy manufacturer or not. • @DoRC

      Yes it will. You will need an adapter to break out the balance connector from the integrated Traxxas adapter. Those are available on eBay or pretty much any hobby shop.

      Well there's always going to be a certain number of failures for any product and people are much more likely to take the time to complain than they are to take the time to say everything's going fine. I have recommended this charger to literally hundreds of people and I've only had one person say they had a problem with theirs.
