    In this video we take a look at the NICEST charger I've ever used. The new Gens Ace Imars D300 charger. It's a 2-channel 300W AC / 750W DC 2-6S Lipo/LiHv/LiFe/Li-Ion/NiMh capable charger. Also supports direct DC output, external discharging, synchronous charging, and more!

    Great video. Question: I just started racing 1/12th scale carpet on-road and the lipo pack we use in 13.5kv motor is 1s pack. Since the lipo back is 1s and doesn't require any balancing, how to I charge the lipo pack without getting the default screen that says " Balancer not detected" Press confirm. How do i bypass this and what button do I use to confirm it. I've tried all buttons to no avail. Any 411 is appreciated. Thanks Razor RC.

    Does this have profiles like the old Hyperion or the Toolkit M6DAC? It is so convenient to be able to pre-set profiles so that you don't have to constantly change charge parameters when you have multiple battery types to charge. Just select the profile and go. I don't plan to have many smart batteries, but even if I did, I might want to charge them faster or slower. Profiles are so convenient.

    The balance option still confuses me. Balance charging and storage also balance the cells. So what advantage does the extra balance have?

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it doesn't use any extra electricity. So let's say you have cells at 7.7, 7.7, 7.2 . It will just discharge from the first two and feed it into the 3rd until they're all even.

    • @SpudicusMaximus
      @SpudicusMaximus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The balance lead is used in basically every operation on all modern chargers. Every cell in a multi cell pack should always be at the same voltage. Without this balancing, the cells drift apart over time. It is impossible to make two battery cells operate exactly the same, especially over the lifetime of the cell. Now the problem occurs during charging, and if one of the cells is quite a bit higher on voltage than the others, it will just keep charging. This is a bad thing, the cells can only handle so much voltage. Then things start to get hot, swell, release the magic smoke, and possibly burn down your house.
      This is also a consideration during usage/de-charging. If a cell drifts too low, during use, it will just keep providing current. This results in an undervoltage scenario. Not as bad as overvoltage. But is a sure way to shorten the life of the battery, if not kill it outright.
      Typically during normal use (driving) the balance leads are not used, and thus each cell is not individually monitored. This is usually fine as the charger has already balanced the cells. Then it's ok to make the generalization that when the pack hits x voltage (depending on number of cells) during usage, it is considered empty.

      @@SpudicusMaximus although I’m not the OP, I appreciate the detailed response! I’m still a bit confused about the difference between the “balance” charging as he mentioned at 8:45 vs actually selecting the balance option at 9:00? Is there two different meanings to ‘balance’?

    • @SpudicusMaximus
      @SpudicusMaximus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheParkingLotGarage You'd have to consult your chargers manual for the specifics of it's function. For the Gens Ace D300 the 'balance' menu option will basically do an 'in place' balance. Though this depends on the settings used, as you can define the desired voltage in this mode. The charger will either bring all cells up to the voltage, or down to that voltage, or if it is current voltage it will just ensure all cells read the same value. Charging/discharging cells as needed. The charge mode performs balancing as well, though with the end goal of the battery pack being fully charged for it's stated chemistry.
