  • The 2019 Jayco Journey OB 15.48-6 is a brand new model from Jayco. It targets families looking for a compact van. We are extremely happy with it, but in this video I point out the 'annoying' bits and pieces that you only find out once you have the van and are using it.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah was a huge WTF moment when we got it home. It wasn't something we could tell from the plans, we just assumed that powerpoints would be in the optimal locations. Yep a case of premium beer is ready to rock and roll as soon as we hit the road! Definitely a nice van.

    • @jasonhenderson459
      @jasonhenderson459 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OutdoorsCBR There may be an issue with placing a power point around the kitchen bench area due to the sink/water - it is most likely an electrical standard they would be complying to.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonhenderson459 yeah I think you are right. It makes sense. To be honest, 6-7 months in, we havent missed the powerpoint. Majority of our camping has been off the grid. And being only a 15ft van, theres not a great deal of room for electrical appliances. We only really use a toaster.

  • @bushmagpie3312
    @bushmagpie3312 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for your comments. Can you add power point from bottom up cabinet onto back wall?
    Awning maybe it would be better to attach to the roof section?
    Is this the model with the rear ensuite/shower as we are looking for a hybrid caravan ourselves.
    I can see a few improvements in future but great base caravan to start. There are some great bike racks but will need support from rear bar. Suggest moving wheel to back then add another tank in its place.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I think thats about the only option for the powerpoint. just above bench and using one of those 'block' style powerpoints. This model doesn't have ensuite at all. We use a shower tent and 12v shower. Its definitely a great entry into the caravan market. We had a Jayco Hawk previously and this was a great progression. Additional water in place of the wheel could be a good idea, although we have never been off grid long enough to need that much water.

  • @lukeoday2661

    Thanks for the walkthrough. Looking back would you have bought this? Or gone straight to the new en-suite van!

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah we would. It was a slow progression for us. Started with a Hawk for a year or two, then the 15ft, then the 17ft. If we had the coin maybe we would have gone straight to the 17ft, but at the time, budget was a big factor.

    Looks really good. We are waiting on ours to be delivered which should be next month. Is the black awning different to your previous model? If so any chance on a video how it works please. Thanks

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tony, yes we had a white bag awning on our Jayco Hawk - but after 8 months of use, the black one has been no problem at all.

      @@OutdoorsCBR . Thank you. I should have watched your video before I placed the order. We have also ordered a bike rack and was not told about moving the handlebars and pedal on bike before mounting it. Went to another Jayco dealer after watching your video and he said if I had ordered the rack to suit E bikes I would not have to do that. He also said some people extend the bottom tubes out by 200 mm to get around having to adjust the bike.

    Have the same van, overall happy with it, but lack of power outlets is an issue as you say, access to storage areas under beds also a pain. We have just blown a 12V fuse, but cannot locate the fuse box as such. I have looked around the battery & control system , but cannot locate the fuses.... I have looked everywhere.... Any ideas where they sit?

    Hey, great vids.. Where do you carry your rubbish when off grid? I just got the same van but pondering as there’s no spare on the back for a tire bag.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks! It's a but if a tricky one. We generally try to minimise bulky packaging before heading off grid so that our rubbish stays small as possible. Rubbish usually gets strapped down on that front tray in behind the jerry holder and thrown out asap. We've rarely had to carry our rubbish for long periods.

    Hey mate, I watched this vid a few months ago and thought it was a really good review of the 15 foot Journey. I bought the 15.48.5 about 6 months ago and agree with your comments. Apart from a drawer that fell apart I've been happy with mine.Just wondering how is your's holding up ?

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, thanks for watching. We got ours Aug 2019, then not long after did 6 weeks on the road, including 300km on dirt while heading for Broken Hill. We had a long list of warranty things, mostly small. A few dodgy hinges inside. Worst things were the awning LEDs playing up and rub marks on the outside wall from the picnic table and front window cover. I should make a video of it all.

    Looking to head into Jayco in the next week or so to get this same van. Any advise for things to look for or ask when negotiating a price? Any factory options not in your van that you'd go for now given a chance?

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would def go for a built in hot water system if we had our time again. Only extras we have are the picnic table and bike rack.

    • @dominic-ryan
      @dominic-ryan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutdoorsCBR thanks for that, hot water system is definitely on our list, though that makes other things tempting such as an external shower, extra water tank and gas bottle too. Think our budget will be too limited for all that. Was also wondering about the filtration system. How do you filter the water for drinking? Other than that, the leatherette dining area and upgraded fridge are are possibles for things I'd want to buy with the van. Too many decisions, no money to back them up 😳

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep I know what you mean. Out of the things you listed, the main one we wish we had is the outdoor shower with hot water. It would be so handy. We get by with standard fridge, since we have a fridge in the car for drinks. The extra water and gas. Gas definitely not an issue. Extra water tank maybe if you plan on going off grid for extended periods with no access to water. Showers eat up your water

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's fine for us. Most time is spent outside. But in the rain we can all sit around the table, or on the beds. It's a 1 person kitchen. Our kids are only 7 and 5 and we arent big people so it's fine. If you were 6ft plus and a big unit it might be a bit pokey.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Daniel, depends on the adult I guess. The top bunk is only weight rated to 80kg from memory. If an adult was going to sleep in the bunks, they'd want to be well under 6ft tall and not very wide.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Lauren, we didnt try in the end. I had one guy tell me that he did it, but it didnt fit properly and he wasnt able to close the latch on the holder. Our cyl8nger roughly lasted 2 weeks free camping. And we just went to a refill shop to get the cylinder re-filled. Costs between $25-35.

      @laurendrayton8448 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OutdoorsCBR Thanks great help. How long does the solor battery last when fully charged? Would you recommend getting the upgraded 2x 160watt and extra battery for free camping?

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@laurendrayton8448 it lasts plenty if you are just using the lights and charging multiple devices. Probs indefinite, unless you have a week of cloudy weather. In saying that we dont have a 12v water pump or hot water system, and I assume the standard system would handle that easy. If you wanted to use a big inverter to run appliances like microwave, toaster or something like that, you might consider the bigger system. But if you arent using a big inverter to run appliances, I'd say there is no need for the bigger 12v system. We havent ever come close to running the battery low.

    • @OutdoorsCBR
      @OutdoorsCBR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exciting for you guys either way! If budget ain't a thing, I'd go straight for the Journey. The hawk/Swan was a good stepping stone for us, it helped us gradually get into the market. The Journey is easier and more convenient in so many ways. Waaay less setup and packdown time, you can easily access inside when it is packed down. The hawk/Swan is pretty much inaccessible when its packed down, you can crawl on your knees to get bits and pieces but it's a pain in the ass. Good luck!
