  • This is a digital copy of an old 16 MM film, believed to be from the summers of 1953 to 1955, when Beaver Camp was owned by OT Anderson. Mr Anderson operated Beaver Camp for Boys until the late 1950s, at which time James Shapland purchased and operated the camp. In 1969 the camp was sold to Adirondack Mennonite Camping Association (Beaver Camp).
At least some of the scenes not on the waterfront are from “Campcraft Day”, when there were water boiling and other competitions. Others are from special annual days including “Gold Rush Day” (campers wading in the water looking for gold) and “Carnival Day” (the slide for life and the merry go round). The horse riding was at the “Riding Ring” which was behind the Catholic Chapel on Buck Point Road going towards Lowville (long since grown over).
