the table is the illusional prop -- the cabinets are all uniformly huge -- notice m gondry has to make quick jumps to the back of the table in what would be 2 steps -- like 4-5 ft. for the average kitchen table. the way the table is elevated in the back so you can roll oranges down it -- i think that is the best evidence. the back of the table is much larger than the front.
haha no, it's a perspective illusion. The room (made of wrong shaped items & a backdrop) has been set up so all the elements look normal from the point of view of the camera. They have been skewed dramatically, yet their corner pins still align to the perspective lines coming directly from the camera. move the camera anywhere else and everything would look very wonky. "Puzzle world wanaka" has a room like this people can play in, search for that if you still need examples to understand.
Look at 0:42 and the table's back feet which are taller than those in the front. :) I like it that you put some bits of sounds from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind :).
es alucinante lo de Gondry, es el puto amo y asi deberían de reconocerselo, que no creo que lo este, suficientemente. cada video que hace consigue emocionarte, y pensar joder como lo consigue!!
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the table itself give sthe impression that it is squared but it has at least 2 meters in lenght. The fridge is on some kind of a higher base, but when the guy is in front, the fridge looks normal in size. I guess you can all figure out the rest! :) YES, the perspective is great!
i like the way gondry uses basic camera techniques in clever ways to get effects which look professional. hes a genius!
qué pena que no hayan más maestros actualmente como Michel... una verdadera pena.
Gondry did fantastic work on the music video for 'Let Forever Be' by The Chemical Brothers.
One of the best music videos I have ever seen.

would it not be easier just to get a small person to sit under a normalsize table ? :)

YES, the perspective is great!
The Ames room is only an example of this effect. Forced perspective may not have been invented by Gondry, but he sure uses it well.
@LISdafreestyler No the room is taller at the other side.

“hey, how’s it going?”
i think the title must be "illusion" rather than camera trick
I think what you might actually have been referring to was an Ames Room, right?
i didn't expected that xD
i had to fully turn up the volume of windows to hear something^^
It was fraking awesome:D but not that hard to make:] just use laser pointer to level every part of the installation:]]
