After all the games we've seen In Steam Sequence where they clearly weren't even trying, it always feels tragic when there's an earnest dev but the results aren't quite gelling together.
Props to you for having manual subtitles. They're always so much better when it comes to timing and thus reading experience, and deaf folks can actually trust them to be accurate too.
As a random fact, while doing research to edit the video, I found out that the binding of isaac was originally made for a jam, with the idea to develop a "The Legend of Zelda-inspired roguelike", so i decided to add footage at the beginning of the video as a little easter egg (1:23)
It's honestly a pretty interesting idea for a game. Normally, I hate time limits, but if the game is properly built AROUND time management as one of the core challenges, especially if it's turn based, it can create a cool and unique challenge.
i was bored, as i didn't have anything to watch. my homepage was empty, devoid of content that i would've enjoyed. and then, graeldon posted another banger. god bless graeldon 🙏🙏🙏🙏
One thing I have to mention is that I'm not sure that the way they implemented the wizard enemies was a good idea. This game is one that seems to want players to take their time to think, due to the limited moves system, so having an enemy that constantly spawns other enemies appearing as a consequence for taking to long on a level seems counterproductive. I also don't think that allowing wizards to spawn other wizards was a good idea, as that just seems like cheating.
I agree, and even if the person replying is correct and it's just about steps, that still feels weird. You're already punished for taking too many steps by... Losing those steps. I'd assume it was meant to increase the risk vs reward of "I can move on safely or I can stay and fight" but that's already covered by the fact it's a roguelite at all *and* the steps mechanic. So I have to assume it was stop some kind of exploit someone discovered? I don't see another reason to have them
yeah, that's counterproductive like, this game already says "you have a limited amount of steps, so think twice if you want to linger on the floor", and if you do, the punishment is a potentially worse run the wizards are basically a second, unneeded punishment
@@Siegmernes In that case, It's even more of a problem, since the player does have full control of how many steps they need due to most things being randomized. Honestly, the wizard would have been much better as a boss that appears on a specific floor, rather than a normal enemy that only spawns to punish the player for playing wrong.
I've only started and caught up with this series about 2 weeks ago so im glad i get to watch these as they come out, on a side note getting to A would be a monumental moment
This looks like a superb concept, executed in a mediocre fashion. The graphic style is nice, the delivery looks and feels solid and the idea is actually unique and versatile. The delivery seems half-hearted, like after all the effort it took to get this far the dev was finally happy to have something functional and just gave up.
One of the few games that I've wishlisted prior to watching this series and wanted to see that's potentially achievable in a year or so in this series would be 112 Operator. I haven't played that game, but I did play their other game they're currently developing, Infection Free Zone, so that's something I'm genuinely interested in seeing, especially with the map generation from real life - one of the few features I appreciate seeing (kind of like the recent MFS). That'd probably not happen if it continues to get pushed down further by a slew of other games... But anything is possible. I know everyone is excited for 100% OJ (and 1000xRESIST), but again, different tastes so...
You know what? Bonus point for the developer not to have a bunch of DLC for you to unlock the game early. It is the bare minimum but I have seen cheap games being cramped with DLC.
Always a good morning, it's early for me, to see an update of the man with the strangest mission on all of YT! Love the designs of the characters, tho.
I have seen a game like this before where you play a secret agent climbing a building and the alarm will go off after a certain amount of steps. It was a lot more minimal than this game though, so this game might be the originator. Either way I think there is nothing wrong with copying a strong premise from a past game and attempting to add your own spin to it.
Other than the bland combat, the game doesn't seem to have any intrinsic core mechanics that are bad. All the other problems could probably be fixed with a few patches.
Heh, when I read "100 Steps" I thought it would be something like Steps for the Pico-8 (also a ZX81 version by a different developer), just with 100 steps instead of 10.
The whole thing about progression sucking is a general Rougelike thing imo. Revita is one of few rougelikes I can stand (more Rougelite), but even that makes me frustrated after a while of playing.
the cursor position being out of sync while recording sounds familiar ! i have this in spore because i play the game at my screen resolution, and windowed but maximized, so it squishes a little. but i record at my screen resolution. and the cursors position actually corresponds to its actual position on the screen (as opposed to the position ingame), so it desyncs if the game window is squished but the recording isnt
There was a moment where the text box in the right hand corner where it encouraged to like and subscribe as well as another that encouraged players to follow a certain Instagram, I’m curious were those intentionally edited in or had they always been there?
@fractal-dreamz Because this is an impossible project to complete in a single lifetime. By getting more people on board the project, you can review more of the games, while not inherently letting the quality drop. Even if graeldon had 800 editors to get a video put as soon as they've beat the game, there's just not enough hours in the human lifespan to play all those games
After all the games we've seen In Steam Sequence where they clearly weren't even trying, it always feels tragic when there's an earnest dev but the results aren't quite gelling together.
This game's case is especially sad, since it's so close to good. Unfortunately, the devil is in the details for 100 Steps.

Yes, and then several games like Enter the Gungeon took Binding of Isaac and continued on that concept
This looks like someone's first or second draft of a game and if they iterated it a couple more times, they'd have a pretty solid 7/10 game.
It's honestly a pretty interesting idea for a game.
Normally, I hate time limits, but if the game is properly built AROUND time management as one of the core challenges, especially if it's turn based, it can create a cool and unique challenge.
I can't wait to get out of 100 hell.
We're nearly there, 2-3 more videos
Graeldon's circle of hell: 100 games of varying quality (mostly poor)
As the monkey paw curls, a slew of "200" games become listed on steam.
At least 100% Orange Juice will be 100 heaven!
@@Graeldon not if i release my new game "100 ways to waste Graeldon's time" 😈
Slowly clawing out of 100 hell. You're doing god's work!
Can't wait for the 4 hour long 1000 puzzle piece video!
Love your videos. It's kind of astonishing that the ratio of good/bad reviewed games is almost 50/50

I think what Grealdon meant was that they appear after a certain number of steps on a floor. Not real time.

I think, if he clumps a bunch of shovelware together and continues releasing vids at current rate, he'll reach the a's in like 9 years
@jonathand.t.5051 next video is 5 games in one! I do what I can to group smaller titles together

There’s a lot of mediocre-bad Roguelikes out there
Atleast you got backpack hero and cobalt core to look forward to
Well that would take eons at this rate with both of these.

Dang, this was a long one. The next one looks like it has some polish though, and isn't just stock assets, so let's hope this next one is better!

Day 49 of waiting for In Stars and Time. (I always pick the perfect day to forget to do it so I ended up up doing it when a Graeldon video pops up.
There are messages that appear when you click on yourself to wait a turn, so those are all part of the game
Thanks!

Reminds me of Hoplite!
This reminds me of a game i played called Evertried
Looks like a lot of this games assets are premade or ai generated.
Weird because some look original/human made, and very specific to this game
Perhaps they are part of some kind of asset pack?
They probably asked the ai for something “in the style of Slay The Spire”
100 steps? Thats too much, might as well use a car
Ouch. I just got home from walking through the forest because my car is broken
This game feels so close to good.
Tbh it might be worth making a team to churn through these faster. and maybe someone to go through the adult games lmao
why would you want to "churn through these faster"? the whole point is to give a (relative to the game) properly in-depth review.
