So very sad we are having to discuss race and colour in the workforce. I have previously commented on this vlog and to me the most important thing as an employer would be if the person was qualified and capable of carrying out out the role competently. Does colour race religion diversity or anything affect capabilities??? I just don’t get it!!! 😡🤷‍♀️

@@denisekenny6241 unfortunately your 60% less likely to get a management Job in the NHS because of your colour. It’s a shame. A real shame. A dam shame and those making up the statistics should be embarrassed. It’s unfortunate that you barely get a foot in the door because of your skin colour but that’s why THIS is important. We can’t pretend it’s not happening.

Also in terms of being rejected from roles due to skin colour I think you have a point Nanelle. Us Caribbean people will have more English sounding or anglophone names because we were former British colonies. So if someone were to look at a Caribbean person’s name on an application they may not know this person isn’t British due to the name. Whereas African names are very distinctive. Also what you said about her accent as well I think is also valid. It’s sad that these are things that we have to think about but it is a reality. Applications are sometimes thrown out just based on ethnic sounding names when there are racist people involved. Very deep.

Interesting interview, the greatest challenge of the one that identifies with a label like “black” or any other label that puts you unconsciously in a place of limitation or stereotypical experiences would most often be what that one experiences in real life. This is not denying what “seem” to be happening in that so-called reality but the question is “what do you really want?” if there is clarity in that area the only limitation that one would encounter in where he knows he should be is that which he accepts or consents to. Pretty very simple but many make simple things complicated.
