Cylon Attack - Part 4

- Lots of progress on my work-in-progress Battlestar Galactica "Cylon Attack" game. I eliminated the flicker on the Cylon from my part 3 video. Root cause was the Tektronix 4050 BASIC command to get the Tektronix joystick position digitized uses the display X and Y DACs (digital to analog converter) which keeps the Option 30 coprocessor from displaying the Cylon.
So I designed a new joystick interface using unused pins on my GPIB Flash Drive. Two of the pins are connected to my Vectrex video game controller analog joystick and four pins are connected to the four buttons on the Vectrex controller. I added code to the Flash Drive to send the X and Y joystick analog values plus the four buttons back to BASIC when the program does INPUT@5:31:X,Y,A,B,C,D to request the gamepad data.
This video uses the gamepad button 4 to fire at the Cylon, and I have added code to my program to randomly move the Cylon around the screen.
This is so awesome!
Very cool!
Great project, Monty! Keep going! Love the graphics!
Thank you Monty. This is great.
I do not have a functioning 4051. I have 1 empty case and one basket case that powers up but the screen is a lost cause. I love what you have done. Thank you
Have you posted your 4051 'basket case' symptoms on vcfed.org? I posted my issues in the "Other" Forum, and that is where I got help to repair my 4054 and 4052 - multiple times. The Tektronix 4050 series are very rare - so bringing one back to life - and showing it off is very important. I've taken my 4054A to vcfed.org vintage computer festivals in California and Texas. I'll bet they have one near you. Younglings were very impressed with my system - and that may be the spark that sends them in the direction of a career in computers. And if you happen to live in the UK - we have a 4052 that needs the top cover 😀
