    Taake is a norwegian black metal band, and it is Bergen in Norway. Bjørgvin is the old name of the city.

      Due to the seven mountain surrounding the city it is famous for having a lot of rain. 220 days or so with rain per year.

    Yup. Taake and Mgla are both "fog". And they are both 2 of the best black metal bands out there. I consider them to be of similar quality all the way around. Excellent bands, and I'm glad you're checking Taake out finally.

      @@SimonH109 True true, because Tru kvlt BM fans hate to be compared with emo. But ive met many of them in real life, and what can I say. Pretty emo. Black Metal lifestyle is like Emo's without the Glam. Maybe they were edgy in the 90s when they were burning churches, but not in these days.

    • @zerazara
      @zerazara 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sinister King You should have seen at first eyeglanse that I mostly are trolling to get an "Emotional" response from hardcore BM fans.
      If you look at BM lyrics they sing alot about medieval themes, gothic themes like satanic/luciferian etc, and also Gothic in a litterature sense as "Dark Romanticism" the way they describe nordic nature, also a lot of viking stuff and Fantasy like Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and and Dragons is often mention. You know, Nerd shit. Things that Beta Male emo geeks are in to.
      And then it is all the "Corpse Paint" make-up and the "band image" with all the band patches, black leather jackets, and lots of lots of necklaces with inverted crosses. Nerd emo shit.

    Wow, Vin and I felt this song so differently than Sori did! "In a damp, drippy basement"? Wow, not at all what I associate with this.
    There certainly is music for that mood, i.e. doom metal and DSBM (depressive suicidal black metal). Shape of Despair is probably my all time favorite doom band, and their "Monotony Fields" album helped me cope during some really tough times. There's also Evoken, Mournful Congregation, Bell Witch, and many others for doom; and Dedlife, Make a Change. . .Kill Yourself, and Thy Light for DSBM.
    Taake is not remotely in that category. It's for feeling pretty "normal" and just vibing on some sweet melody and being taken on a fun, sorta fast paced journey! It's so beautiful, and you reacting to it reminded me how much I like this band!

  • @SimonH109
    @SimonH109 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice to see Vin dig this one! Taake is really interesting in how he manages to meld together the classic second wave sound with some solid melodic riffs but then takes it in all sorts of unpredictable directions, like you heard at the end here. He's thrown in mouth harp in another song and banjo in another, dude is really gifted musically.
    I can listen to black metal in all sorts of contexts depending on which band/song. This one is pretty melodic and gets upbeat at the end so it works in a lot of moods for me. Some are great to put on while you're working, some is good so relax and doze to due to how atmospheric it is. Definitely not something that's only there for depression.

    Most black metal sounds epic to me. I get the same feeling when listening to power metal. I am guessing that I am not the only one who gets those vibes since a popular phrase in the fandom is "black metal is war". Generally positive feelings when I listen to stuff like this, but there are subgendres of it, like dsbm that are exactly as Sori described things.

  • @ssmith87
    @ssmith87 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes i get happy while listening to black metal. I listen to it when i’m feeling happy or depressed..it’s EXTREMELY therapeutic. All the music I listen to is like that for me. People who are the bubbly, happy-go-lucky, needing to bounce or dance around type most likely aren’t listening to black metal or any kind of metal..maybe they can tolerate a few songs here and there. Obviously people who like calming, relaxing sounds are going to listen to something light/easy listening. I ask myself the same thing when i hear people listening to pop, rap and hip-hop; that shit to me is extremely depressing. No way could i even begin to understand, even if you’re in a happy mood, how anyone finds those to be therapeutic (obviously people do but?...). I feel like those genres lack mood and any emotional atmosphere and it’s probably because they don’t really use physical instruments to produce music. Using electronic sounds, loops or samples to me is almost devoid of any musical integrity. All you’re listening to is a beat with some goofy sounds sprinkled in and the main focus is the person’s voice and lyrics.

    I have a playlist I use on Spotify with different music, In that playlist I have black metal, I play on shuffle mode, so It can be Black Metal that's start playing or anything else. Sometimes I can skip a song, sometime Iron Maiden song, sometime a Immortal song, it depands. So for me it not really so much about the feeling, but Yeah it depands. If Im really sad or upset, it can still be a Iron Maiden song or a happy song or motivation song.

    I know this video was from months ago but I listen to this music (black metal) when I feel like I want to, without too much influence from my emotions. If I don't have a special attachment or a special memory connected to a song, then my emotional state is not that much relevant. I can listen to Taake when I'm happy as much as when I'm sad. It just takes me in a different dimension so it disconnects me from the rest of the world.

    They are from Bergen, Norway. Great black metal band. Try listening to Xasthur, that's depressive black metal.

    You know that you are speaking camp in Germany/ town next to it and this song is talking town that has same name but is in Norway, NOT in fucking Germany(!)....?
    It's like we have 2 Bobs. Bob 1 is cook in local school. Bob 2 was serial killer who lived other side of the continent. But because they both are called Bob, they are same evil shit?
    Like any credit you had before is gone. This is again tradic case of geography via Muricans!
