We have to face the fact , a real pro . Right to the Target , the best and clear video shot that speak clearly by itself . You are the best with your non talking video it's really helpfull and professional . Regards mister .
Thank you for the video. i bought the Short ratchet and Orange trim tool that you suggested on your links. The short ratchet helps a lot, but I find it easier to use a very small flat-head screw driver to remove the 2 clips from the bracket you show at about 0:54.
Make sure the air purge valve is at the top when you reinstall it. If you look at the clip around 2:15 and 2:45 it shows it in the top position (the little shiney hole in the thermostats lip). If it's not, it will not work bc it will be below the fluid level. Just my 2 cents. I'm not a mechanic but have heard this is important.
Very good video. I have trouble determining if my coolant is low or not. It is very hard to see the min and max markers on my over-flow resevoir. Btw, you must live in a warm client. You have no rust on your car. I am so jealous.
I would highly recommend to get that $5 gasket theres a high chance it will be stuck on there and when you pry it out it will tear. And it is hard to find at autozone. You do not want to get stuck !!
would removing the thermostat amount to the same as draining coolant from the engine block thats mentioned in the service manual for coolant change? [im asking cause im gonna change the thermostat at 100k anyway and dont want to open the drain bolt on the engine unnecessarily]
Where do you think I can get torque specs for the bolt? I thank you for providing them, but can’t seem to find it any else where only to rely on the forums.
My honda civic 06 is code telling me on the obd that i have low coolant temp and my thermo is prob stuck open, im no mechanic but since ive had no engine trouble or temp rise, i can assume the thermo is stuck and needs to be replaced?
Question. So I followed this, and after doing so, when turning on the AC, the compressor cycles on and off after a couple of seconds, and the engine shakes pretty bad. But it only shakes while the AC is on. Any suggestions?
Hey man wondering if you can help me diagnose an issue with my 2013 civic. I have poor mpg ~20mpg city. I have noticed that my radiator fan does not turn on unless the A/C is on. The engine cold light also stays on when I start the car for about a minute or so. I have checked the spark plugs which are fine, no vacuum leak, no codes, no blown fuses (haven't checked relays though). Any ideas what could cause such a drastic drop in fuel economy?
Question, I'm going to replace my thermostat on my 2014 civic but I replaced the coolant 20,000 miles ago 3 years ago. Is it ok to reuse the coolant that I drain out...or should I use new coolant?
Thanks man for the video. Just did mine today. Do you have one for an axle on a 14 Civic ?also do you have to put grease on the inside or outside of the axle seal?
Mine just came on and I took it to a mechanic and he showed me the computer and wrote down everything he was going to do to make that light go off. Thermostat and coolant/antifreeze was the only listed stuff I was paying for. (Both total cost $15 but he was charging me $80 I called a friend that fixes cars he said don’t pay that it’s simple enough to do yourself so here I am 😂)
It was originally a check emissions light so I took it to the mechanic he showed me the computer diagnostic screen saying thermostat / coolant (it showed thermostat like 5 times 😂 I’m not a car person so I didn’t know what to look for but he gave me an itemized quote)
People need to also know that most of the non-OEM thermostats for this car will NOT come with a new rubber gasket. Why? I have no idea. I don't know how smart it would be to reuse a 10-15+ year old rubber gasket after it has been exposed to that much head and hot coolant sitting tight against a very hot engine block. So its kind of a rip off. It cost me and additional $5 to buy it separately, and it was hard to find in stock. I drove around to 4 different auto parts stores and finally found one that carried a couple of them. That really blows my mind since this is supposed to be one of the most common problems on these cars and an easy DIY job. They carry so many different brands of thermostat but almost no gaskets. Who would want a new thermostat with no gasket?
You dont have to replace it if your engine temperature is normal. If the engine temperature light doesnt come on, the car is telling you the engine temperature is normal and you dont have to repace anything.
I have Civic 2012 around 180k miles So what do you think I should do as basic maintenance I bought it used so safe to assume that basic maintenance was not done other than engine oil replacement I checked for codes but I don't see any codes, the only issue is when am.driving around 50 mph and if we release the foot off accelerator and we press it again the car shudders a bit That's the only I have so what do you think will be the issue? And what all basic maintenance I should do to increase longevity of the vehicle My brother also has the same model Civic 12
@@MrRangerZr1 thanks brother for replying when you say change everything else Can you please elaborate on what all to replace? According to maintenance schedule?

Thank you Sir. Finally someone who clearly demonstrates how a job is done without all the "lets pretend were on TV" nonsense. Well done.
FINALLY another maintenance item to do on my little 2012 civic and Mr. Ranger to the rescue again!! These little Civics are as reliable as they come.

Great video. Watched this before I did my 2012 Civic today after getting the P0128 code a few days ago. Simple enough.
Was this your fix? Or the sensor

That was a simple fix watching you. Thanks for adding that to TH-cam. Very informative!

Very important for air escaping from the coolant system
Yes.Thanks a lot. this is very important.
that it is. the orientation of the gasket and thermostat are very specific
You made look so easy. Thank you
Thank you for this video.Great video and right to the point.
another well done video. Thank you

Michael shine a flash light on the reservoir. Yep blessed to be living in a non rust belt area.

Yes always replace the thermostat gasket. Link in description
I broke one of those plastic brackets that you pulled out with the orange tool, is that bad?
Nah you’re fine
zip tie it.
Thank you so much!
would removing the thermostat amount to the same as draining coolant from the engine block thats mentioned in the service manual for coolant change? [im asking cause im gonna change the thermostat at 100k anyway and dont want to open the drain bolt on the engine unnecessarily]
Draining from the engine block will drain more coolant
Where do you think I can get torque specs for the bolt? I thank you for providing them, but can’t seem to find it any else where only to rely on the forums.
Only from the service manuals.
When draining the coolant, do you also need to siphon the rest from the reservoir as well? Or is that not necessary? Thank you
It's better you do
My honda civic 06 is code telling me on the obd that i have low coolant temp and my thermo is prob stuck open, im no mechanic but since ive had no engine trouble or temp rise, i can assume the thermo is stuck and needs to be replaced?
blvckk mvtt what code is it giving?
MrRangerZr1 P0128
Even cleared code yesterday morning to see if it comes back and and today its back and its the same, coolant thermostat
And just to note, no increase in temp gauge or weird idling or shifting, but sometimes bad start
Could be a bad engine coolant temp sensor or thermostat
Question. So I followed this, and after doing so, when turning on the AC, the compressor cycles on and off after a couple of seconds, and the engine shakes pretty bad. But it only shakes while the AC is on. Any suggestions?
This has nothing to do with the ac or car shaking, check your motor mounts

Check your air filter and clean the MAF sensor, see if that helps. All videos on my channel.
Question, I'm going to replace my thermostat on my 2014 civic but I replaced the coolant 20,000 miles ago 3 years ago. Is it ok to reuse the coolant that I drain out...or should I use new coolant?
you can reuse, just use a paint/coffee filter when refilling to filter out any dirt that may fell in it while draining.
Can I accomplish this without buying a funnel? Running the engine and refilling radiator as necessary?
Best to use the funnel
Is this the same is replace the thermostat housing or is that different?
The hose portion yes, but not the part on the engine. That's a whole assembly and hell of a work but easily doable.
Thanks man for the video. Just did mine today. Do you have one for an axle on a 14 Civic ?also do you have to put grease on the inside or outside of the axle seal?
not atm check out my other axle videos on my channel
No grease
My engine check light says its the coolent thermostat would doing this fix the problem?

Mine said coolant thermostat malfunction (P0128)
Then it says on bottom (coolant thermostat failed, replace.)
How much coolant do I need to drain if I’m just replacing the thermostat?
1-2 jugs
Thanks that was really good video

It's for every aftermarket thermostat lol and yeah do not reuse the gasket.
So filling the coolant reservoir isn’t the same as filling the radiator? I thought that a car’s reservoir feeds into the radiator.
Some cars, like a toyota prius you fill the reservoir, on this car, no.
Thanks
How often do you change the thermostat on a 2013 civic 1.8 litre? (189 000 km)
I would change it around 100k miles
Thanq so much
Does the car need to be raised when we drain the coolant ?
If you can access to it without lifting then no need to raise the car
Nice video !!!
When should this be replaced? Like your videos by the way. I have the same car.
Around 100k miles or when you replace the water pump.
You dont have to replace it if your engine temperature is normal. If the engine temperature light doesnt come on, the car is telling you the engine temperature is normal and you dont have to repace anything.
Can you explain what you did at 4:12 please
Watch this video, it explains it thoroughly: th-cam.com/video/Jjr9dxlUjpM/w-d-xo.html
What was reason you replaced it
Video purposes.
I would change the thermostat every 100k miles. When they go bad, they can cause the engine to overheat.
@@MrRangerZr1 well my civic is not it's not get hot enough staying on cold
How will you know if you need to replace the thermostat?
CedrKing Gaming check engine light, overheating, etc.
Does this work with a 2014 civic si?
Different engine, k series. check my crv thermostat video it’s similar.

What is the symptoms of bad thermostat?
Engine not getting up to operating temp or overheating.
