    What settings are you using when you posted this video. I just bought this camera and looking forward to using it as my vlogging go to camera. Do you have the link for that mounted external light? Thanks

    Were you using the built-in microphones?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I was. It's not bad except when there's wind, or high ambient noise like traffic.

    Why go with the G5x instead of the EOS m3?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +necopost lots of reasons as I've mentioned throughout all my reviews of the G5X. The G5X has a built in EVF, the M3 does not. If you use the optional EVF, it's expensive and also renders the hot shoe useless. The G5X has a fully articulating screen the comes out from the side, the M3 only has a flip up and partially down screen. the G5X has superior OIS due to the compact built in lens, while the M3 will vary based on the lens that is mounted. Also the built in lens is leaf shutter, allowing for high speed flash sync, versus the M3's limit based on its focal plane shutter. The G5X is more compact.
      However, the M3 does have a huge advantage, which is a much larger sensor and the ability to have interchangeable lenses. It is a system camera versus the G5X's compact all-in-one design. Very different cameras and I will be reviewing the M3 once a copy is available for me. Stay tuned.

      I previously owned the M1, so I ordered the M3 because I figure it'll do better in low light situation and better bokeh in video mode.

    Does the camera have wind mute

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mike Slim yes it does, but the wind was blowing really hard. Even with a 'dead cat' I'm sure it would have picked up some wind noise still. If I wasn't testing the G5X, the smart thing to have done was stop recording during that time, but it was a good way to test what it sounds like in extreme wind situations. Overall very impressed with the built in audio, although an external option should be offered in the future.

      Mike Slim start your own blog or TH-cam channel, review your own personal cameras and your friends'. Create enough content and approach a local camera shop and ask if you can review a camera that isn't selling well. Review it and link back to the store's website, and post a link to article on Craigslist to help them sell the camera. Once they see your articles are helping, ask them to introduce you to local reps. Ask them to review their sample models. Get better at reviewing and finally ask the reps to give you a contact person at HQ. It's not hard, it just takes time and persistence. Good luck :-)

    Is there a hotshoe mic that can be used with this?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canon does not make a hotshoe mic that will allow it to plug into the camera and sync with the video. Canon needs to put either an analog 1/8" input, or allow for a digital input via HDMI or USB plug

      bigheadtaco that's bad... audio is very important... from this vlog alone we can hear the wind, etc

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      astigmatik for sure, that's the biggest complaint about these types of cameras, not just Canon. Sony is also bad with their amazing RX100 series. Yes you can sync with an external device but it's a headache for vloggers who are starting and stopping 15-20 times per video. Having to sync in post would take hours!!

    The audio on these compact Canons is just pitiful. I love Canon's color, but for video, this audio that sounds like it was recorded underwater is unacceptable. Plus the auto focus noise in quiet settings on top of that. It's not just your video here with the wind noise, etc. It's always, I have a G9X that does the same thing. I only use it for photos, but wish I could use it for more video. Sadly, the audio kills it.
    Canon's color + Sony's audio would be the perfect mix.

      the dream camera.....ya, I guess if one brand dominated in every feature, they'd be no competition. Definitely needs audio improvement

    Thanks for the vid. The g5x tracked you perfectly. I have both the g5x and the g3x, and I think the g5x is underrated both as an all-around camera and as a street photo camera. It is light, and has a better evf and focal range than the Sony rx100 series. The g3x does have a mic input, as well as a headphone jack, but it's too heavy for vlogging purposes.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Taurus3 thanks for your thoughts. Yes the g3X seems to have less going for it as a vlogging camera versus the smaller, lighter G5X, even though it has mic input.
