    Love the comparison. I had a 43 on order, but I grew so accustomed to my Q2 and the flexibility 28mm field of view afforded me, I chickened out and opted for the Q3 28 instead. Very creative logo you have there!!

      I think so too. And you can still get 28mm and 43mm, you just have to crop it. But you can’t crop out to 21mm, nor would a wide angle converter be practical for the standard Q3… I think it would work right?

    After using my Sony RX1 (fixed 35mm FF) for past decade or so, I would never go wider; I’d be very interested in the Q3 43 if I ever upgraded. When the Q was released, I was surprised they didn’t just make it 35mm.

    I wouldn't want to trade my Q3 28mm. I like to crop the image a lot and do so often, but I find the focal length to be perfect. If you really want more isolation and bokeh, you can always get closer. It's actually 26mm, my Sony 24mm 1.4 GM is a bit wider angle.

      The longer the lens on a fixed-lens camera, the more limiting and, hence, the smaller the potential market. I am not particularly fond of the 35mm lens on the Sony RX1 Rii, love my Q3, have no interest in the 43, but would definitely be intrigued by a 21, depending on the close-focus distance. Still, I am guessing the 28mm is the market sweet spot. I can't imagine there being much of a market for a 90mm, despite my fondness for that lens for portraits.

    During the age of film cameras (e.g. the last century), 50mm was widely-agreed upon as the standard universal lens. During that time, every camera came with a 50mm as the kit/starter lens (bar none). There was literally no interchangeable-lens camera that came with 28mm as its standard lens. One of the given reasons for this - 50mm full-frame is closest to human field of view. 35mm was the wide-angle lens of choice while 28mm was the start of super-wide angle (obviously lens technology was different then). Only cheaper point-n-shoot cameras came with wide angle lenses as standard. For that reason, I think 43mm is more of a general purpose lens while the 28mm is more for landscapes. Of course, with foot-work, either lens will work in many situations.

      I agree - it would seem the way to do it would be to make the DLUX a more serious camera. But that would obviously make it more expensive, which would not make business sense for Leica. So maybe keep that model, but add a new, much higher spec model in that small body. I love my Q2, and have a DLUX7 that is more coat-pocketable, but the specs are a little weak to count on it much. They could double the DLUX price to around $3k for a new model with very high specs and I would be all over that. I don't think it would cannibalize the Q for several reasons. I also think that it is much, much easier to buy a $3,200 camera than a $7,000 camera. Leica's sales volume would be good on the new model.

  • @edduffy9366
    @edduffy9366 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Definitely a first world problem😂. Just picked up the original Q3, because how can you say Leica’s are overpriced for what they are, when you truly never owned a Leica and shot with one.
    With that being said, I believe the Q3 could be cheaper (overpriced for a fixed lens camera, in my opinion).
    Now about that supposed “Leica Look”, I believe this to be a real thing. When I pixel peep, the grain pattern looks very different to me then any of my past or present Fujifilm, Panasonic, Pentax/Ricoh, or Nikon mirrorless/DSLRs. It does appear more film like in grain pattern representation, to me.
    Build quality of the Leica Q3 is top notch, however the focusing system (even with the latest firmware) is still behind other cameras that I have shot with.
    Now the Leica FOTOS app, has just been a dream to use. To me the best photo app out there by any camera manufacturer, with Panasonic being a very close second.
    Now, the comparison between the original Q3 and the Q3 43 comparison, I can’t see how the Q3 43 falls into the truly “Street/Urban photography” category like the original Q3.
    However, I will just have to get a Q3 43 to see for myself, but that leads me back to my original statement in this post. Am I willing to pay even a HIGHER price for the Q3 43 than the original Q3? Again, way overpriced. Calm down Leica.
    I think and understand now why people who own Leica cameras believe these cameras somehow bestow a special kind of imaginary photographic expertise and prestige to their photography.
    However, that is not true. Just like this channel. I liked when you opened up and actual said “Big Head Taco”, now it is BHT with more coverage of the Leica brand then before when it was focused more on Fujifilm and Ricoh cameras (I have been a follower of the channel for over 4 years, maybe longer).
    I still like the videos and the channel in general, but LONG for the “Big Head Taco” intro days.😢

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      thanks for your input and congrats on the Q3. Lots to dissect here. It's hard to say if the Q3 is overpriced or not because you need to compare it to something else. The closest camera would be the 8 year old Sony RX1, and that wasn't cheap when it came out either.
      As for my channel, Fujifilm has changed their policy on camera loans. You may notice I struggle to get gear from Fujifilm. I use to get them early and they allowed me to borrow gear for months. Now I get the camera 3 months after launch and I only get it for 2 weeks. As for Ricoh, they don't return my emails, so I stopped reviewing them only because they're not interested in sending me gear. So I focus on a brand that actually cares about me as a photographer and as a person. If Ricoh, or Panasonic, or Sony, or Nikon want to send me gear to check out, I'll check them out. I can always borrow gear from colleagues or camera stores, but I have a general policy. If I don't work directly with the manufacturer, I won't regularly review their gear.
