Can you tell me about those needles, could they be replaced like by the golf mk4 ones, i mean just the two big ones?

How about the STM32 T12 everyone's been reviewing lately. It's a different from factor than the T100, but it's probably similar except for a lot more settings.

Is 12V + in PIN 1 and 23 on all those VDO clusters?

For removing the needles use either a fork or a couple of teaspoons from the kitchen to lever them up.

On my 04 polo the leds that light up the speed dials died.
As this is a vag group car, theres bound to be someone searching for what leds they are (9n). 20mA 1.8-2.1v drop.

Another great repair. Hope it is the last you see of that (meaning it is repaired and working).

A method for removing indicator needles is two cable ties looped one opposite each other in the center of the needle and pull up evenly.

There seems to be a crack in the ceramic substrate of the magic metal can o proprietariness at 1:21:20
This might be why it's still dead :(
Not much you can do if it is.
(I know my comment is very late, sorry about that)

Oh, wow, thanks so much for spotting that! I'm not sure if that's a crack or contamination (it does look like a crack ...), but I'm definitely following up on that if it comes back! I completely skimmed past that quite important clue.

FFcossag glad my comment was somewhat helpful. Just curious how likely is it that the customer will bring it back? I have no idea what you charge for repair or how much a new instrument cluster is but it seems like (assuming you changed $100 or more for both repairs) it might be getting/have gotten to the point where he’s better off just buying a new one.

I was really supprised by those horizontal cracks through the solder joints, i've never seen that happen before, or maybe i just could not see them.
I hope the ceramic substrate under the tin box is ok, there were a few good cracks through it :-(.

The panel works fine except for the Chinese replacement LCD that the customer had sourced.
