Top Ten Accidental Super Moves in Fighting Games

- Super moves always tend to grab your attention in fighting games. If they start a cutscene, or at least an extended animation, they usually give you a good 5 to 10 second summary of what the character is all about. There could be honor, deception, or just the will to win, but what about those characters that don't even mean to attack, or at least mess up in the process? For this video, I want to cover the super moves that shoe the characters that mess up, yet still come out on top. Perhaps just one part of the super move involves a mistake, or maybe the entire super move is unintentional, but either way, these super moves show when these cutscenes go unplanned, while still being just as effective as any ole super move.

When she's healing the enemy, shes say the phrase "Itai Itai Tondekke", something like "pain, pain, fly away!", the problem is that Minerva interprets the "fly" command to do a divebomb attack.
One of my favorite is the failed version of Gilgamesh’s Strongest Sword in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.
Gilgamesh has to pick the legendary Excalibur from a bunch of cheap knockoffs named Excalipoor. If he gets the wrong sword, he tries to do a big flashy attack, but every hit deals exactly 1 damage. By the end of the attack, he realizes he’s got the wrong sword, and throws it away in disgust and frustration.
But hilariously, the thrown sword actually lands on the enemy, and it counts as the final hit of the super. This means it inflicts any built-up damage Gilgamesh has in his Brave meter. This results in the accidental hit doing more damage than any of his intentional cuts with the fake sword.
This specific detail also references the fact that throwing Excalipoor with the Throw command in FF5 will do damage based off the sword's shown attack value rather than the 1~9 damage from swinging it normally.
I've never thrown Excalipoor so that's a cool detail to now. 😮

Peacemaker's Butterfly Finisher should be on this list, but not in a accidently way, he was trying to kill the butterfly but he instead shot the opponent

The cloth guy from the first super move on the list is an ittanmomen. It flies in through the window and strangles people in their sleep. I don’t know what the furball guys are.

Marvel does indeed have a lot of these. I like Jill's Super where she summons a Tyrant and it starts slashing at the opponent. Well...summons is a bit strong. Like all the zombie attacks she does, she's not like actually calling them and is as surprised as anyone they're here. She can even do a follow up Super where she destroys the Tyrant with a RPG and I ain't meanin Final Fantasy.
I just love the implication that wherever it is that Jill's going there's a T Virus outbreak that she has to deal with which honestly...that's Resident Evil.

I would put Hyena's (from the KOF Maximum Impact games) *Hyena Punch* in this list.
He runs towards the opponent to punch him with all his strength but because he is very clumsy, he ends up tripping and falling. Despite this, the Super/Desperation Move deals a large amount of damage.
In fact, it is the most damaging Super in KOFMI2/MIA
Cool I am glad you mentioned this. Hyena was so much fun to play as. His lvl 3 is fully invincible too you have to respect it 😂
2:54 the paper and the fry guys are both tsukumogami. i'm uncertain, but the giant head might be meant to be the okubi. with one single one i'm unsure of, i'm psure every sprite in the parade is infact a proper youkai.
1:05 - 3:01 I feel really bad that He never mentions the other variation of Akari Shikigami in Neo Geo Battle Colliseum, that one had a lot of SNK easter eggs.

Playing as Maria Renard, there is a lot of the moveset that works by accident and sheer luck.
Okuyasu Nijimura's lv3, Jojo asbr. The Hand deletes so much space that he sends a faraway pot flying toward you, taking a bit of his own health!!
I recomend you to add on a next entrance Hanataro Yamada from Bleach Shattered Blade for the Wii.
This character has the special hability of healing everybody he hits with it… The only way to make damage with him is using his clumsiness to hit the opponent with Hanataro’s body while he is falling or spinning… xD
I played a good amount of that game even though I didnt knew anything about Bleach (still dont know anything) and I still remembers the noises he made while spinning.

Okuyasu from JASBR he gets smacked by a pot plant in his Super and ends up TAKING DAMAGE
Bucciarati also takes damage when he uses his level 1 super,even tho it's minimal and can be restored over time.

I mean, she’s just faking it. Those moves only look accidental, she really is trying to kill the opponent. Like one moves where she falls forward and when she falls, she has knives in her hands to stab them with.

On Shingo's super, his "fall" actually has a hit box. If you block the super in the corner, he can hit you on the way down.

I didn’t know Dizzy’s half human. I thought she was full gear.
Technically she shouldn't even be a gear at all since aria was already pregnant before she became justice but yes she's half human because of Frederick and half gear because of justice which like I said doesnt make sense she should be full human since Frederick and aria got pregnant before either of them became gears like the time line would go they got pregnant then to cure frederick he became the prototype gear and had that coma deal then asuka turned aria into a gear who later became justice and then frederick woke up to the crusade and later became sol so at no point would dizzy have been half gear she would have been a full human incubated inside a gear but shouldn't have been a gear at all
TL:DR shes only half gear because her mom was already pregnant before Frederick became the prototype gear

Kinda sad I didn't see Sumo Santa's finisher where he sits on the opponent and finds that they were buried in his bowels. After which he clears out with a violent fart.
One that comes to mind for me is hercule/Mr.satan and his tenkaichi version of dynamite kick. In the older budokai games it's a kick but in tenkaichi it's a rush super
As soon as hercule catches his opponent, the move plays out like regular rush supers in tenkaichi but hercule is way weaker than much of the cast of DBZ and it plays out like when he fought cell, with the opponent standing there and hercule doing no damage
When the opponent tries to swat him away hercule is flung into the air, when falls back down he falls headfirst on top of the opponents head. It's the only thing in his move set that looks like he does any damage by himself with everything else being bombs and dirty tricks

Yes, she lingers on the stage for a few seconds, so she's a very easy to dodge hinderance, but it hits as hard as the other waitresses. Even the end of the teapot has a hitbox.

I click this video expecting Peacemaker because his fatality is just him trying to shoot the stupid moth and Scorpion or Reiko or freaking Omni-Man ended up getting killed cause they are in the way of his shotgun. All he wanted to do shoot the moth not the opponent. it's also the most hilarious
I usually leave out Fatalities since they don't use the super meter like Instant Kills or Astral Finishes (or X-rays for MK), but after thinking about how well Peacemaker would work with this topic, I agree and will probably make fatalities eligible for my next Super Move list.

I went back and watched his super moves in Budokai 1, and yeah, that's a big omission. I played B2 and 3, along with the Budokai Tenkaichi games, where they made his bombs and weak punches intentional, outside of when you lose the atk vs def button mashing, so I never thought of how different his supers were in B1 with the dropped bomb and falling on the opponent. Sounds like I have more ideas if I ever do a Vol 2 of this!
