I too find it strange that some say they skipped this zone, especially if you leveled a blood elf, it had great rewards from some of the quests and it continued the blood elf theme.
I have to say that I love Ghostlands. It embodies quite nicely the tragic side of the blood elves. And the legacy of Scourge in that zone with the scar and Deathholme is so evident. I think this was my favourite 10+ zone in the Burning Crusade era. Now that Cataclysm has updated other starting zones, its somewhat lessened, but I still think that from the 10+ horde zones this loses only to Silverpine.
People skip this zone? Well, I mean if you're just power leveling I guess, but the questline ending with Dar'Khan Drathir's defeat is excellent and contains a lot of nice lore.
I played retail WoW from release, but when BC came out I decided to roll my first rogue, and I chose a Blood Elf. I fell in love with Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands, and most of it was because of the music. I actually deleted older alts and rerolled as Blood Elves just to play through the two zones again and again--hunter, mage, pally, warlock. I even made a couple of twinks just to play more. Gorgeous music and bittersweet, heart-wrenching backstory on the blood elves and their home.

It’s a shame that there’s nothing to do here besides leveling or going to Zul’Aman. It’s such a beautiful and haunting zone.

1:35 Waiting outside Zul'Aman for the rest of your raid to arrive . . .
This must be one of my favourite zones in the game, including vanilla and the different expansions!
