My second top game of all times after heroes 3, especially the extended hellfire version. Have completed it dozens if not hundreds of times but only for a warrior and archer - my favorite character. Never done it for a sorcerer or whoever else. The music is amazing and haunting at the same time, especially in the crypt. The sound effects are just fabulous, particularly when you hit and kill the goats, satires and butcher-like monster. Shit, got to wanna play it while texting this. This game will never get old to me. Almost 42 yo. Regards from Russia ✊🏼
When my wife and I made a haunted house for the neighborhood kids, we were out in the deep dark woods, had dozens of ghosts and phantoms strung on the trees, the moonlight spilling in through the autumn leaves, and THIS song echoing through the woods as they approached. This song is so great at creating a weird feeling of eerie foreboding and beauty at the same time.
Always thought this was a banjo with a hammered dulcimer at 3:20, had no idea this composer just rocked out straight guitar. Amazing. 1998 nostagia unlocked
This song just hit me right in the childhood. I played the very first Diablo during the first year it was out. Great times and ever better memories. I'll never forget the very first time I heard this song and when I heard Deckard Cain say, stay awhile and listen.
Because I was actually one of the smart ones to play Diablo's series in the correct order I didn't know what would happen to Tristram when I played Diablo 1. And Unfortunately this soon to be dumpster fire for King Leoric's Son Aiden, and his Friends is not a good time well at least for them its quite the hell of a time for players though.
i remember being 5 years old plying this co op with my dad, we were both rogues. I spilled purple cough syrup all over the white blanket i had around me.
I remember getting my PC Gamer magazine back in the mid-90's and they were showing cut scenes from an upcoming game called Diablo. At the time first person shooters like Quake and Hexen were the rage, so I said that this 3rd person perspective game was doomed to fail. Boy was I ever wrong! When Diablo was released, it took over my life. I think that's why my wife at the time left me.
I remember diablo's release being pushed back 14 months back when it came out and then after buying it had to wait almost a year for an upgrade to be able to play it. When I did, I was forever lost in its world. The music is such a defining element of the game and of my young adulthood. Such memories.
Played this game on my PSX as a kid. Found it by accident and didn't know anything about the game when I started. It was New Years eve and my little brother was watching me play. We were shaking when we realized I'll have to fight Diablo. And when I killed him it was such a wonderful feeling.
As a kid I was so creeped out by the music and this game. Couldn't play it while by myself. And it still creeps me out as a 34 year old. Great soundtrack!
This soundtrack is so different to D3 and 4. I'm not sure what their newer team is smoking with their new stuff, not gothic and acoustic at all. This has some really late 80s vibes
Legendary and iconic video game music thank you Matt Uelmen and good old Blizzard North. I still remember time when video games were more ART and less BUSINESS, like it is today! Shame on new Blizzard for killing Blizzard North's original Diablo 3 project! Now they want to go back with Diablo 4, but its no longer the same thing...
Me and my friend was chilling at summer camp on the Black Sea beach Krimea, we was about nine years old and he told me You know Tony, it is not a pleasure to be here, the real pleasure is to play Diablo. That how I meet Diablo for the very first time of my life.
this shows just how important a good soundtrack is. you hear the first chord... and... FLASHBACK!!! you´re again the little boy (or girl) playing diablo for the very first time in 1996
I was 5 months old when this came out for the Amiga 500. It came on 10 floppy disks and cost $30 (which was a month's wages at the time), but it was worth every penny.
Hands down, the best track ever written in the history of gaming. Some of Chrono trigger's music is quite up there too, but this one just strikes differently.
I have to wonder if Tristram was inspired by an actual little town. It has its small plot of farming land, a few rivers and streams that crisscross it, its smithy, a village elder, a hermit's shack way off to the side, and even its own little humbly constructed church(which certainly stands out from a gameplay standpoint as "the place to go" with its stony frame and red hot glow). And then some wily game designer said: "Why not create a gigantic underworld beneath it that belies such self-sufficient humility and humanity?"
Man I really miss that. The idea of descending into a church that's been corrupted and turned into an annex of hell. D2 and D3 just don't capture that feeling... like, "please go out to the wilderness and fight some midgets in a cave" just doesn't hit the same as walking into the basement of a demonically infested church that's glowing with eerie red light and then getting ambushed by skeletons and zombies popping out of coffins. Sure D2 was a technically superior game, but damn D1 really nailed the atmosphere.
There's some aspects of the games that were actually inspired by real events and people so I could see that being plausible that it's based on a real town. The countess quest for example in Diablo 2 is based off the "Blood Countess of Slovakia", from the Čachtice castle.
In 1999, when a friend came to me and saw the intro of this game, heard the music, I played SONY PS: he asked what it was and whether it was possible to play it with two people on joysticks. How many butchers and Leorics we have crumbled, starting again and again. It was an amazing time.
Will always be my #1 game. The music #1 too. Til the day I die. Doesn't get any better. D2 improved upon things, but at the cost of others. In D2, one doesn't scour every corner of the map, on the contrary, it's mostly trying to get through to the bosses as quickly as possible (especially Act 3).
mm fond memories of this game... countless hours... Also remember me the sitting in town doing the old duplicate item bug -clicking on potion same time as i pick up an epic item and watch it instantly turn into a copy of that item when i place the potion in inventory...
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night There she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell And I was thinkin' to myself, "This could be heaven or this could be hell" Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say "Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) Such a lovely face Plenty of room at the Hotel California Any time of year (any time of year) You can find it here" Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes-Benz, uh She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys that she calls friends How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat Some dance to remember, some dance to forget So I called up the Captain, "Please bring me my wine" He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969" And still, those voices are calling from far away Wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say "Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) Such a lovely face They're livin' it up at the Hotel California What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise) Bring your alibis" Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice And she said, "We are all just prisoners here of our own device" And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast Last thing I remember, I was running for the door I had to find the passage back to the place I was before "Relax, " said the night man, "We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"

But you're never supposed to feel too safe to stay a while and listen. After all, you had a quest to complete and it was only a matter of time before hell would spill into the world.
it's like a different era, a time where there seemed to be a lot more hope and just fun in gaming, in general..
Have been enjoying this while working, thanks Diablo Realm. It sparks an old memory from my youth.
Such an amazing effect on so many people, this game brought me to a special place too. That changeover to the 12 string is epic.
Imagine listening to this while sitting on the ground, leaning against the trunk of a large tree and looking up at the sky under the moonlight.
I do this sometimes... Haha. Especially this time of year. I always go outside in the Dark on Halloween night and listen to this.
Probably had by some corporate hiring gimmick to stand in circles k owing you were never going to meet the boss. Everyone elevating you to talk up to each other. Ppfaa
This music will forever be Soulbound to me!
Man, the chill started running down and up my spine as soon as this started playing. This game was absolutely captivating when it came out. Yes, I played the original at Launch, I'm an old gamer. But, I never realized how perfect this dank music is for this game. Then, I also realized what brilliant guitar playing it is and how awesome it is to listen to on its own. Thanks for posting this
Yeah the guitar is something someone could miss easily while playing. What a classic sounding song!
"Im an older timer"
"Dank"
Que?
@@Cheximus if I take your meaning, yea. Former.
old gamer here too. yeah, we took this stuff as granted back then, probably just part of the whole immersion. however, somehow in the back of my pre teen consciousness, i always felt the sound in this game was extremely special and downright magical
It was a hell of a game. The Blizzard of today looks nothing like that.
It's because the people are gone. Different people with bad ideas took their place.
That’s supposed to happen. It’s what makes something special. For a lot of us, this is particularly true for that era, and the rest of our lives.
Yeah fr, whatever shit they make today can't hold a candle to this.
Blizzard has always had such nice compositions, with extremely talented musicians. It's too bad we may never see Blizzard in this shape and form ever again...
D4 music is, for the most part, boring and forgettable. D2 had a lot of good moments. D1 is flawless.
Wow... listening to this is like being 15, single and with hair again... such good memories
*sigh* It’s always the the hair to go first…
Where did the hair go (8)
You played it so much that you turned into Deckard Cain.
Oh how they made you work to get your potions and spellbooks from the Witch... so far away!
This song just hit me right in the childhood. I played the very first Diablo during the first year it was out. Great times and ever better memories. I'll never forget the very first time I heard this song and when I heard Deckard Cain say, stay awhile and listen.
the butcher
Always feels bad knowing the fate of those of Tristram
Because I was actually one of the smart ones to play Diablo's series in the correct order I didn't know what would happen to Tristram when I played Diablo 1. And Unfortunately this soon to be dumpster fire for King Leoric's Son Aiden, and his Friends is not a good time well at least for them its quite the hell of a time for players though.
I can still sense the fear and thrill entering the room with the BUTCHER!
FKN RUN!
I don't know why... But every time I hear this sound it's like I'm waking up from a deep sleep.
Don't for get you are a cat
i remember being 5 years old plying this co op with my dad, we were both rogues.
That this is one the first themes you come hear in Diablo 1 is really sweet.
This theme also helped me thrue University many time 🙂
I remember diablo's release being pushed back 14 months back when it came out and then after buying it had to wait almost a year for an upgrade to be able to play it. When I did, I was forever lost in its world. The music is such a defining element of the game and of my young adulthood. Such memories.
No other version of Diablo got even near Diablo 1
Especially the shock factor for being so new/revolutionary
Koji Kondo, Matt Uelman and David Wise are the GOAT
I love how when the low base from the Cello hits, you can feel the vibration of the tone in my headphones
I still play the game once per year. Classic!
Played this game on my PSX as a kid. Found it by accident and didn't know anything about the game when I started.
It was New Years eve and my little brother was watching me play.
We were shaking when we realized I'll have to fight Diablo. And when I killed him it was such a wonderful feeling.
Kool.
I've never seen this pulled out shot of Tristam before.
Fun stuff
Back when it was just Tristram. I do miss the more gothic style of Diablo 1. It would be cool to see a Diablo 1 remake like they did with 2.
This game infected my mind as a kid, with the first PCGamer demo CD. So glad it did. Still have that disc
Got this on loop when I do coding. Really helps inspire
I remember this game vividly, but this is the only song I kept from it in my heart, because it just encompasses the entire experience and emotion.
The only bits I've heard of D4 sound very atmospheric tbh.
Also tbh, listening to it again, D3's New Tristram is also epic and heavily takes from the original
@@Grigeral is there a new tristram soundtrack for d4? or do you mean the d4 tracks in general are good?
@@steko4750 I've only heard one I found on here searching for the ost. It sounds very atmospheric rather than orchestral like some of D3's
Because it does take a listen to the first minute of King Diamond Black Horsemen from 1987
Legendary and iconic video game music thank you Matt Uelmen and good old Blizzard North.
I love this game and Diablo II. I was scared to play but still loved the game.
this shows just how important a good soundtrack is. you hear the first chord...
I love for this game to get a full remaster or remake. It was my first pc game to play back in the day. I still remember most of the main boss fights!
man this brings me right back to being in grade 6 ... staying up until 5 am playing diablo and diablo 2 all night then going to school.
It was really nice hearing this track very briefly in Diablo 2, too...despite what happened to Tristram.
One of the most beautiful things ever composed. ❤ nostalgia hits hard too.
Music from better times. My favorite part was always 3:16.
Diablo and Dungeon Siege had two of the best soundtracks and addicting gameplay.
Bring back this style 🙏 Games need to sound like this again
ah, good memories bring us all here... stay a while and remember...
@@emissarygw2264 Truth bomb deployed. Well said, sir/madame.
Diablo need a movie!! With this soundtrack!! The soundtrack is already done. Just use it and will be incredible
Yes and Nicolas Cage can play Deckard Cain. :D He was good in Season of the Witch.
Always love it when I'm driving at night and this comes on.
I love how over half of this video comes up as " most replayed"
Will always be my #1 game. The music #1 too. Til the day I die. Doesn't get any better.
D2 improved upon things, but at the cost of others. In D2, one doesn't scour every corner of the map, on the contrary, it's mostly trying to get through to the bosses as quickly as possible (especially Act 3).
For a whole generation of gamers, this is the melody of rest, peace and safety.
All that's left of proud Tristram are ghosts and ashes.
mm fond memories of this game... countless hours... Also remember me the sitting in town doing the old duplicate item bug -clicking on potion same time as i pick up an epic item and watch it instantly turn into a copy of that item when i place the potion in inventory...
Stay a while and listen!
I am not a fan of Diablo series but even I should admit this special atmosphere of Diablo2 and really great music.
Только сейчас обратил внимание, что из деревеньки нет никакой дороги. Место вне времени и пространства :)
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell
And I was thinkin' to myself, "This could be heaven or this could be hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say
"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year)
You can find it here"
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes-Benz, uh
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain, "Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969"
And still, those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say
"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They're livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis"
Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice
And she said, "We are all just prisoners here of our own device"
And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
"Relax, " said the night man, "We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"
The only soundtrack to double as a ASMR relaxant.
These accords are unforgettable 😊
"Fresh meat !"
Ganhei meu primeiro computador IBM aptiva com 15 anos em 1996. Após muita insistência, fiz minha mãe comprar em 97 o Diablo 1. Tenho a caixa e o CD do jogo até hoje guardado comigo, simplesmente nunca consegui me desfazer dele. Ficava horas madrugada adentro jogando, totalmente imerso neste mundo. Lembro até hoje meu primeiro encontro com o Butcher e claro, ele me cortou em pedaços. Eu tinha um medo real de enfrenta-lo e nunca foi fácil! Amo este jogo e a antiga Blizzard ela faz parte da minha vida.
It's both amazing and disappointing that the entire series never had a cooler song than the very first one from the very first game.
The dungeon themes of D1 are absolutely incredible imo.
Not only the music, the atmosphere and dungeons were never surpassed. D2 immediately ditched it for a more open feel.
Can't wait to play this with my son, got a while for him to grow up so he could handle it.
Just play it and let him watch. The fondest memories I have playing this game was watching my brother run around destroying things. I learned the game before I played it. And when I got to play it it was like super rewarding, to not just do the things my bro was doing, but to learn why, and make my own decisions.
I did the same for my cousin when I was older. He thought the potions bubbling as I was trying to duplicate gold was his tummy makes sounds.
@@scaleofthought I remember duping that was fun. Yeah, I used to watch my bro play some games on his laptop before he let me play Starcraft when he went to work in the middle of a match, don't know if I won that match or not... but was fun.
1996, and you have no idea of the scopes of The Sin War, welcome to Tristram.
Easily the best song of the CD-Rom era
Indeed it's one of the best Video game tracks of all time. Top 10 anyway...
Ahhhh, said the traveler. Thank you. I think I may stay awhile after all.
