Love my Two and half Dulcimers you made for me. they sound better every day. Oh the Half Dulcimer you mean the Chestnut one. I get to visit it a few times a year when I go to Mississippi to visit my Grandson.
When this video was published in July 2015, I had completed 106 dulcimers. Today, Dec. 9, 2017, I started number 245. I want to thank everyone for their support, and for allowing me to continue doing what I love most, building dulcimers.
The dulcimer is so beautifully simple that it stole my heart. Can anyone tell me about how much a hand made cherry one would cost…IF such a special thing could be found? I’ve never seen you channel before even though it’s now April 2024. Hope things are still going full speed for you.

Jack I have a dulcimer ,older one that was given to me.some of the parts are missing,what kind of wood do I need for a bridge,... or nut I think..they are missing..and what type of strings do I buy..thank you for your time.you play so well....
I've used various hardwoods, such as purpleheart, for the bridge, and synthetic corian for the nut. Most dulcimers use gauges ranging from .009 - .012 for the melody string(s), .012 - .016 for the middle string, and .022 - .024 for the bass. thanks...
Jim Bo, what do you consider non-tonewoods. I sound out all wood used on my dulcimers. No tone, no go. Even poplar has tone if milled properly. thanks...
No such thing as a 'non' tonewood, all timber resonates. There's alot of emperor's New clothes in instrument materials IMO. Some timber has better resonating tendancies than others but the 'range' isn't as large as people think. Pretty much anything can sound good.
@@appflutes I had a cardboard one as a kid. My mom had one for many years. She lost it in the flood of 2011. I stumbled across one I started many years back when I recently making a cigar box guitar. So in a few more months, she'll have another.
what is the tuning on that electric acoustic dulcimer and what is the name of that song the guy was playing? but beautiful dulcimers though very well done
Thanks.....nice to have good material supply source. Have built a kit before but this time I'm going for the whole enchilada. Got me some nice featured maple....we'll see what comes of it all....got a good fireplace too, in case it all goes off the rails !!!! Cheers
I'll be ordering a dulcimer over walnut from you this spring when I get my income tax refund. What type of amp do you recommend for your electric dulcimers?
Thanks Beth. The amp depends on how much you plan to spend. I have two small practice amps that also have great functionality: 1) Peavey Nano Vypyr, and 2) Fender Champion 20.

Interesting that the soundboards can be made of non tonewoods, and they all sound good.
