    Hi David, glad to see you’re back in the saddle traveling! I’m interested in going to Poland because I hear it’s very safe there and there’s a lot of history. The pierogis look delicious! I grew up in NE Pennsylvania and there are a lot of Americans of Polish descent there, so pierogis are very popular. I once made homemade pierogis with my Mom. It was hard work but delicious. In the US we serve them with fried onions and sour cream.
    That pork sandwich was huge! That would fill me up for the whole day. I was surprised to see they use chiles like jalapeños - I thought Polish food is bland. Looking forward to more! 👏👍🏻❤️

    There is allot more of Polish traditional food that i sugest you try if you are there for exclusive food adventure. Bigos is a must try and on purpose first on this list. If you didnt eat bigos in Poland you havent even been to Poland and you just need to go again and try it. Flaczki also a must try, Barszcz czerwony z uszkami i pasztecikiem, a freaking must try, paczki must try - heaven in mouth. Racuchy, zurek, knedle, kopytka, pyzy, oscypek, placki ziemniaczane and if you like sweets and candy then krówki and prince polo is a must try. Never buy soda in Polish restaurant. Always order kompot. You can get hot and chilled kompot and the taste is different in every restaurant and it taste different every day because restaurants cook fresh kompot every day using diferent fruits. Never buy any fruits from supermarkets. Always ask locals where is the nearest fruit market and you will be able to buy better quality at 1/10th of market price. Always buy your bread from local bakery and not the supermarket, this way you will get your bread so fresh it will be hot and straight from the oven.

    A little bit about oscypek. These small ones are just mountain cheese. Real oscypek needs to meet the required characteristics and there is a lot of it.
    For example it needs to have 600-800 grams of weight, more than 60% of ship milk and rest can be from cow but only from one polish variety.
    There is also certain shape and other features. It's sometimes hard to find real oscypek but false ones aren't that bad actually.

    Obwarzanek krakowski and bagel come from Kraków. Obwarzanek krakowski is three centuries older than a bagel. The dough for the krakowski obwarzanek is first steamed, then baked. Krakow's Jews began baking bagels in the 17th century. Bagels were given to women after a successful childbirth at the beginning. The bagels came to NY at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries along with the great emigration. Today they are an iconic bakery product associated with NY. :-)))))

    I lived in Kraków for a few years, and I must say, that Zapiekanki from plac nowy in Kraków are very average in taste and overall feeling of the classic zapiekanka taste. You shuold definatelly search more about Polish "zapiekanka" ,there are hundreds of small towns where u can eat a delicious Zapiekanka, much better then the ones in Cracow (they are a bit overrated). Go To Biłgoraj in Lubelskie, try some Zapiekanka in Janów Lubelski or other palces.

    @yakeosicki8965 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is one wrong translation. Russian dumplings are pelmeni. Small dumplings stuffed with meat. We have Ruthenian dumplings (pierogi ruskie) in Poland. This name speaks of the region of origin. Ruthenia has been part of Poland for nearly 1,000 years. This is western Ukraine today. The translation error comes from the ignorance of my countrymen. The word Ruski(Ruthenian) has become a synonym for Russian in everyday language. That is why some people translate Ruthenian as Russian. :-))))))

      You're wrong in one aspect. Pelemeni are not the same as polish pierogi, vareniki are.

    6:23 Nie legendarne, ani już Ci "epickie" zapiekanki. Prawdziwy Polak tam nie sięga. To dobra lokalizacja. Mamy bardziej wybredne podniebienia. Prawdziwa zapiekanka z PRL była inna. Prostsza i smaczniejsza. I takie jadamy nadal, ale nie kupicie tego smaku, bo on nie jest na sprzedaż.

    *Ruthenian not russian. Its common mistake even amog Pole.
    When it comes to oscypek. Most of them are authentic / original. But almost none has certification. In Poland, there are probably 13 people with EU-issued licenses. These are the results of legal regulations to protect the national good. But a side effect is that the families that created oscypek for generations do not have these rights because they are either too restrictive or too painful to make.

      @@thestreetfoodconnoisseur This mistake results from the fact that we call these pierogi "ruskie" in Polish. And "ruskie" is colloquially speaking "Russian". And the original meaning of the word "Ruś"(ruthenia) has been lost.

      @Matvraket If the name in Polish said rosyjskie, then one could translate it as russian, but it doesn't. Ruskie comes from Ruthenia, which was former polish province Red Ruthenia.
      Actually, even the name Russia has been stolen since before nowadays, russians were called Moscovites.

    If you are indeed Polish, then you should know that there is no such word as "Pierogies!" One is PIEROG and more are PIEROGI. Really, please don't use words you do not understand. This will confuse people genuinely trying to learn the language!
